The Japanese release of this print was reclassified as an Item card, but the English did not adopt this name until its release in the Black & White expansion, originating from the Beginning Set, with new artwork by Kent Kanetsuna. It was later reprinted in the English Legendary Treasures expansion, first originating from the Japanese Mewtwo vs Genesect Deck Kit.

Energy Switch was again reprinted with new artwork by 5ban Graphics in the English Furious Fists expansion, first originating as one of several Japanese XY-P Promotional cards that became available in a number of different card boxes.
