Encore forces the target to repeat the last move that it used for 2 to 6 turns.
Encore prevents the target from using any move except the last move that it used for 2 to 6 turns.

If the victim of Encore runs out of PP on the affected move, the effects of Encore end immediately. If {{m|Disable}} is used after Encore, the target will be forced to use {{m|Struggle}} until the effects of Disable or Encore have worn off.

Encore will fail if used on {{m|Transform}}, {{m|Mimic}}, {{m|Sketch}}, {{m|Mirror Move}}, Encore itself, {{m|Struggle}}, or a foe that just used up the last PP of a move, or one that has not used a move yet.

===Generations III and IV===
Encore lasts for 2 to 6 turns in Generation III and in {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}. However, in all Generation IV games after this, it lasts for 3 to 7 turns. {{m|Torment}}, which acts similarly to {{m|Disable}}, can now be combined to have the opponent use {{m|Struggle}} every second turn.

If a Pokémon is affected by Encore before it uses its move that turn, that turn it will be forced to use the move it was locked into, with the [[priority]] of the selected move. If the Pokémon is forced to use a move other than the one it selected, will target a random foe (if it can target a single foe); if the move is {{m|Acupressure}}, it will randomly target either the user or the ally.
A Pokémon affected by Encore cannot select the targets of its moves. If the Pokémon chooses to use the move, if that move can target a foe, a random foe will be targeted. If the Pokémon is now locked into {{m|Acupressure}}, it will randomly target either itself or an ally when executed.

If a Pokémon is affected by Encore before it can use its move that turn, it will be forced to use the move that Encore has locked it into; if the move it is forced to use has a different [[priority]] than the move it had selected, the Pokémon will still move with the priority of the move it had selected. If the move the Pokémon is forced to use is the same as it had selected, the move will execute on its designated target that turn; otherwise, the target will be randomly selected.

If a Pokémon is affected by Encore before it uses a move that turn, and it is now locked into a move other than the one it selected, that move will target the foe opposite it (if it can target a single foe); if the move is {{m|Acupressure}}, it will target the user, not an ally.

Encore (Japanese: アンコール Encore) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation II.

Effect

Generation II

Encore prevents the target from using any move except the last move that it used for 2 to 6 turns.

If the victim of Encore runs out of PP on the affected move, the effects of Encore end immediately. If Disable is used after Encore, the target will be forced to use Struggle until the effects of Disable or Encore have worn off.

Encore will fail if used on Transform, Mimic, Sketch, Mirror Move, Encore itself, Struggle, or a move that has no PP, or if the foe has not used a move yet.

If a Pokémon is affected by Encore before it can use its move that turn, it will be forced to use the move that Encore has locked it into.

Generations III and IV

Encore lasts for 2 to 6 turns in Generation III and in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. However, in all Generation IV games after this, it lasts for 3 to 7 turns. Like Disable, Torment can now be used to force the opponent to use Struggle every second turn.

A Pokémon affected by Encore cannot select the targets of its moves. If the Pokémon chooses to use the move, if that move can target a foe, a random foe will be targeted. If the Pokémon is now locked into Acupressure, it will randomly target either itself or an ally when executed.

If a Pokémon is affected by Encore before it can use its move that turn, it will be forced to use the move that Encore has locked it into; if the move it is forced to use has a different priority than the move it had selected, the Pokémon will still move with the priority of the move it had selected. If the move the Pokémon is forced to use is the same as it had selected, the move will execute on its designated target that turn; otherwise, the target will be randomly selected.

Generation V

Encore now lasts exactly 3 turns. It can now be reflected by Magic Coat, but will then fail.

A Pokémon affected by Encore can now select the target of its moves.

If a Pokémon is affected by Encore before it uses a move that turn, and it is now locked into a move other than the one it selected, that move will target the foe opposite it (if it can target a single foe); if the move the Pokémon is locked into is Acupressure, it will target the user, not an ally.

Generation VI

Encore no longer works on Pokémon under the protection of Aroma Veil.
