Generation IV
The target is unable to use its held item and the Trainer is also unable to use items on that Pokémon for five turns. The effect wears off if the Pokémon switches out.
A Pokémon under the effect of Embargo cannot use Fling.
Generation V

Generation VI
Embargo does not prevent the use of Mega Stones when Mega Evolving a Pokémon.
Does not prevent the experience boost from Lucky Egg. (Needs to be tested in Gen IV and V)
