Electivire (Japanese: エレキブル Elekible) is an Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Electabuzz when traded holding an Electirizer. It is the final form of Elekid.

Biology

Physiology

Electivire is a humanoid creature covered in yellow fur with black stripes, and five black fingers on each of its hands. It lacks a neck, similarly to its baby form, Elekid, and has red eyes, a black spot on its forehead and the same antennae as Electabuzz. There is a pattern on Electivire's back that resembles an electric outlet that would accept a plug similar to the one on Elekid's head, and it has two black tails that each have a red tip. Electivire has black feet with three toes in the front.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Electivire can use attacks that its pre-evolutions can use, except that Electivire's attacks will be more powerful. However, Electivire is also capable of knowing Flamethrower, Earthquake and Rock Slide. Electrical attacks are unable to do any damage to Electivire, but will instead increase its speed.

Behavior

Electivire are cruel creatures that enjoy bullying younger, weaker Pokémon simply for enjoyment. Other Pokémon such as Ambipom, Tyranitar and Rapidash usually fight back to protect their young and fend Electivire off.

Electivire can be hard to tame by trainers, so it is considered best to evolve one from its baby stage, Elekid.

Habitat

Electivire hide away in complex power plants. Some also live atop cliffs and mountains, while some nest in dark, dense forests.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Electivire usually feed off electric currents. In the last episode of the Advanced Generation series, when Team Rocket first saw Gary's Electivire, it was eating fruits that it got off the trees.

Major appearances

Gary Oak used an Electivire to battle against Ash's Pikachu in Home is Where the Start Is. It appeared again in Ill-Will Hunting! where it helped Gary protect four Shieldon.

Volkner used an Electivire in DP179 during his Gym battle with Ash. It defeated Ash's Torterra but lost to Ash's Pikachu.

Paul had an Electabuzz which evolved into Electivire prior to DP184.

Minor Appearances

An Electivire made a cameo appearance in Giratina and the Sky Warrior.

In the manga

Mars of Team Galactic is shown in possession of an Electivire. However, it is only present in the graphic novel releases, replacing the Luxray that occupied the role of transferring electric power needed for the completion of the Galactic Bomb.

Like in Pokémon Platinum, Volkner is also seen owning an Electivire.

Trivia

Voldon's Electivire Costume
  • In Pokémon Battle Revolution, it is possible to get a transferable Electivire, along with the Gold Pass, by entering one of the following codes - depending on region and language - at the "Self-Introduction" option in the Profile menu:
    • US:
      • BA16-X4SH-E2AT
    • PAL:
      • English: tko3-9jwp-34kl
      • French: jk4i-df87-dsf9
      • Spanish: 04in-1ynj-24fv
      • German: 0f9-ud0g-ughj
      • Italian: t4oi-6j8d-sb5r.

Origin

Electivire seems to be based on a yeti. It is also very likely to be based on a gorilla. However, its Motor Drive ability which boosts speed after being struck by an electric attack by stimulating its muscles to help move faster is similar to an electric motor, as the name implies.

Name origin

Elekible is believed to be combination of エレキテル erekiteru, electricity, and ケーブル kēburu, cable.

Electivire is based on the words electricity and wire, as in the two cord-like tails it has. Its name could have also been based vampire, because its ability "feeds" off electric attacks.

In other languages

  • German: Elevoltek - From Elektro-, volt, and Technik (technology).
  • French: Elekable - From électrique (electric) and câble (cable).
  • Korean: 에레키블 Elekible
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 電擊魔獸 Diàn Jí Mó Shòu - Literally "Electric shock magical beast". Shares the characters "電擊" with the Chinese names of its pre-evolutionary forms, 電擊怪 Diàn Jí Guài (Elekid) and 電擊獸 Diàn Jí Shòu (Electabuzz).
