Trivia

  • Eelektross and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon, aside from Ghost/Dark types, to have no weaknesses. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type, and not because of type matchups.
    • They are also the only single-type Pokémon with no weaknesses.
    • However, they cannot be made invincible if given Wonder Guard, as it replaces Levitate, thus making them weak to Template:Type2 attacks.
    • Also, they are the only weakness-free Pokémon that have evolutionary relatives.
    • Eelektross has the highest base stat total of all Pokémon with no weaknesses.
  • Despite being based on marine animals, and living in the ocean, Eelektross and its evolutionary relatives are not Water-type, cannot learn any Water-type moves other than Rain Dance, and are not found near water in the wild.
  • Despite its Pokédex entry claiming it discharges electricity through its teeth, it cannot learn Thunder Fang.

Origin

Eelektross and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, Agnatha, and possibly leeches. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioelectrogenesis.

Name origin

Eelektross is a combination of eel, the corrupted electric from its pre-evolution, and boss or gross. Shibirudon is likely a combination of 痺れ shibire meaning numbness or "shibireunagi" meaning electric eel, and don, a title of respect usually prefixed to Christian names in Spanish and Italian (similar to English lord). "-don" may also refer to the Latin suffix for tooth, referring to its large teeth.
