The '''easy chat system''' is a method of inputting personal messages for passwords, interviews or [[Mail]] in the [[Generation III]] and [[Generation IV]] games.

==Generation III==

The easy chat system was introduced in this generation. It allowed the game to process inputs that were more personal than the typical yes/no choices of Generations I and II.

In [[Dewford Town#Dewford Hall|Dewford Hall]], various NPC's will be discussing whatever is "trendy" around Hoenn. By telling them about a new two-word phrase, they might start discussing that new trendy phrase instead. Far from being purely a cosmetic change, this phrase determines the six tiles of the river on {{rt|119|Hoenn}} in which {{p|Feebas}} can be found. Additionally, when players [[mixing records|mix records]], one player's trendy phrase might catch on in the other player's game, allowing players to synchronize their efforts to find the elusive Pokémon.

In the Generation III games, mail messages were composed using the easy chat system, rather than by inputting text manually as was done in the Generation II games. The player could compose a message using up to nine words or phrases.  

==Generation IV==

The easy chat system was brought over to Generation IV games as well. Additionally, with the advent of region-free trading via wireless connection or Wi-Fi, easy chat became much more useful-- now mail and other messages would be readable in games of any language, since the game would translate each word to its nearest equivalent.

The Union Room in Generation IV allowed for participants to send short messages using a modified form of the easy chat system. Instead of simply stringing words together, players choose a simple sentence or phrase. Many phrases have blank spaces for the player to insert specific words, to modify the sentence's meaning. For instance, the player could select the phrase "I love ______________!" and insert the word "BULBASAUR" to express their love for [[Bulbapedia|Bulbapedia's]] mascot. For mail messages, the player is given the option of using up to three of these phrases.

By talking to the TV producer on the third floor of the Jubilife TV building, the player can obtain new wallpaper for their PC boxes. To do so, the player must tell him two specific combinations of two words each. The required combinations depend on the player's Trainer ID.
