EX Dragon (Japanese: 天空の覇者 Rulers of the Heavens) is the name given to an Expansion of cards and Theme Decks for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It continued to release Generation III Pokémon into the TCG.
Information
- EX Dragon was the first set to feature cards with Colorless as a Weakness or Resistance, primarily to make Colorless cards more playable and correlate damage calculation in the TCG with the games. In the TCG, Dragon Pokémon tend to be Colorless, therefore it would only be fair for those to have a Colorless weakness (as in the games, Dragon-type Pokémon are vulnerable to Dragon-type attacks). This made play more interesting when these cards began showing up in decks.
- EX Dragon was also the first set in a while to include box toppers - playable box toppers at that (previous box toppers were jumbo cards and therefore unplayable). These box toppers appeared as secret cards at the end of the set and came in the form of Charmander, Charmeleon and Charizard.
- The Prerelease card for this set is Gyarados. Prereleases were held on the weekends of 15th/16th and 22nd/23rd November 2003.
