Ash and his friends stopped at the bank of a river, when Pikachu hears something. Ash looks to the other side of the river and sees a Snubbull with red ribbons on its ears run past. Misty asks Ash what's wrong and he told her that he just saw Madame Muchmoney's Snubbull run past. Brock and Misty look but they can't see it but Ash said that he was sure that it was hers since it had big red ribbons on its ears

Team Rocket were talking about food while walking through the forest and Snubbull notices them. Then Meowth shouts out. Snubbull has bitten his tail! Jessie and James told him that he should be happy that Snubbull likes him. Then Meowth says he hates Snubbull and shakes it of his tail.

Ash, Misty and Brock were walking through the forest and Ash says he was sure that he saw Madame Muchmoney's Snubbull but it has probably gone now. They notice a man on the road who seems injured and they give him some water. Then they recognize him as Jeeves from Madame Muchmoney's mansion. He tells them that they split up to look for food, when suddenly Madame Muchmoney swings in on a vine carrying a basket of mushrooms.

While they were eating the mushrooms, she told them that she was there to look for her Snubbull. Snubbull had run away and she decided to go look for it and while they were Madame Muchmoney developed some muscles. Brock told her that now that she is in good shape, she can become an amazing Pokémon Trainer. Brock explains that to train a strong Pokémon you have to be strong yourself so the Pokémon has a powerful role-model. He says that now Madame Muchmoney will be a great Pokémon Trainer.

Then Jeeves said that she will need a Pokémon to be a Trainer. Ash then tells that he saw her Snubbull earlier. He said that if they use their Pokémon they can find it. He asks for something with Snubbull's scent on it. She gives him a ribbon Snubbull used to wear and Ash gives it to Pikachu. Pikachu picks up the scent and follows it.

Snubbull was depressed that Meowth said he hated it and then hears something in the bushes. Snubbull thinks it is Meowth with flowers and is asking it to bite his tail all it wants. Then it sees a tail that looks like Meowth's and it bites it. It turns out to be a Mankey's tail and not Meowth's. The Mankey attacks Snubbull and runs off. Ash and the others find Snubbull laying on the ground ,injured. They take Snubbull to a Pokémon Center and Nurse Joy says that Snubbull is fine but it is a bit shaken. Brock says Snubbull is very lucky and Nurse Joy agrees with him. As usual he starts flirting with her.

Madame Muchmoney tells Snubbull that once they get home it can explore all it wants without leaving home. Jeeves tells them that all the garden is being renovated to give it a nature look. Ash says that Snubbull doesn't look so happy about it. Madame Muchmoney thinks that there was something wrong with Snubbull and Nurse Joy takes it for some tests. Snubbull was laying on its bed and thinking about Meowth and his tail. Nurse Joy comes to tell Snubbull that all it's test results came out fine but Snubbull was gone! Team Rocket is walking through the city and Jessie says that Meowth shouldn't have been so mean to Snubbull but Meowth said that he had to do it to save his tail. They hear Madame Muchmoney calling for Snubbull. They thought that if they find Snubbull they will be rewarded by Madame Muchmoney.

They decide to use Meowth for bait and hang him up from a tree. Snubbull hears Meowth screaming for him being let down. Meowth tells them that they should let him down but Jessie says that they all have to make sacrifices. James and Jessie start calling for Snubbull and it comes out but it does not go straight for Meowth's tail but it just stands there. Suddenly Snubbull starts evolving and becomes a Granbull! Jessie sends out Arbok and it uses Tackle. Granbull sees its tail and thinks that it was Meowth's tail and bites it. James sends out Weezing and tells it to use SmokeScreen attack. Arbok escapes and Meowth escapes from the ropes. He brings out a giant Meowth robot and Team Rocket run inside of it. Meowth makes the robot wag its tail and Granbull bites on. He drops a cage and tries dropping Granbull in it but Granbull won't let go.

Ash and the others come and they notice Granbull and Ash looks it up in the Pokédex. Madame Muchmoney recognizes the ribbons on its ears and tells the others that it was her Snubbull. Jessie and James come out and tell Madame Muchmoney that they had been looking for Snubbull everywhere. Ash, Misty and Brock think that Team Rocket are up to something. Madame Muchmoney thanks them but they say that there is no thanks necessary. They expect a reward but Madame Muchmoney just passes them to get Snubbull. Madame Muchmoney is trying to pull Granbull off but it won't let go. Meowth tries to get Granbull off by electrocuting it but it did not work. Since Madame Muchmoney and Jeeves were still holding Snubbull they get shocked as well. He tries getting it off by wagging the machine's tail but that does not work. Team Rocket runs back in the machine and say that they will only give Granbull back if they give Pikachu. Ash wants to use Thunderbolt but it would shock Granbull as well. Ash sends out Cyndaquil and makes it use Flamethrower. It gets hot inside and Meowth tries to cool it down but instead ends up shooting the tail of the robot as a missile. Madam Muchmoney tries stopping the missile with her own hands but she crashes onto a tree because of the missile. Granbull let's go and falls to the ground.

Madame Muchmoney asks Granbull if it was okay and said that they will battle Team Rocket together. She orders it to use Take Down and Meowth fires the missiles that are on the robots hands. Granbull uses Tackle and Team Rocket get knocked back. Then Granbull uses DynamicPunch and knocks out the robots TV monitor. The robot goes out of control and crashes into a tree. Pikachu hits it with Thunderbolt and Team Rocket blasts off again. Madame Muchmoney hugs Granbull and says that they will be a great team. Madame Muchmoney decided to go home. Ash and Misty says that Granbull wasn't the only one who evolved.

Trivia

  • In this episode, Team Rocket uses a variation of their motto.
  • This episode's English title may be a reference to the Star Trek episode The Trouble with Tribbles.
  • At the end, James cries, "Why did our plan go wrong?" Meowth replies, "You know what they say about the best-laid plans of Meowth and men, Jimmy!" This is a pun on the famous line from Robert Burns's To a Mouse: "The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men/Gang aft agley,..."

Errors

  • When Madame Muchmoney wants to get Snubbull's head examined, Nurse Joy says "Would you like me to take it to the Pokémon Center to examine it?". However, they were already in the Pokémon Center.
