Synopsis

Template:Incomplete synopsis

Ash and friends have stopped to rest at a "shady mountain" stream. All of the Pokémon are in the water having a good time. Brock is brushing Vulpix's Tail. The scene shifts to Misty talking to Togepi about how good the water feels. Poliwhirl drifts by on its back, and Misty tells it not to drift too far. Poliwhirl waves OK, but all of a sudden a huge Poliwrath comes up behind Poliwhirl. Misty comments on how tough it looks, and Brock says that it doesn't look too friendly. The Poliwrath smacks down Poliwhirl and then uppercuts it through the air. Poliwhirl lands by the bank, K.O'd. The Poliwrath is still in the water cheering. Misty comments on how it's nothing but a big bully. All of a sudden, someone yells "Your Pokémon's a pipsqueak!” Out of nowhere comes a boy. Misty asks him if the Poliwrath is his and why it attacked her Poliwhirl. The boy responds by saying that he thought it was a PoliWimp. Misty tells him to take it back, but the boy questions her by saying that Poliwhirl is so scared that it's hiding behind Misty. He finishes by saying that he can't expect much from a "plain old Poliwhirl" and said if it was any good that it would have evolved. Brock defends Poliwhirl by saying that there are lots of great Pokémon that aren't fully evolved, and goes on to say that Poliwhirl is a great Pokémon. The boy starts making fun of all Misty's Pokémon, eventually Misty loses it and challenges him to a battle. The boy says that he'd love to but already has other plans. He recalls his Poliwrath and leaves, but not without telling Misty to work on her Poliwhirl. She responds that he needs to work on his attitude.
After the opening, the scene is changed to the Gang walking down a trail. Misty is talking about how the boy had lots of nerve to be insulting her Poliwhirl like he did. They eventually come across a large mass of people with fishing rods walking in the same direction. Ash comments on how everyone has a rod and reel, while Brock wonders out loud if there is a good fishing spot nearby. Ash asks a boy if there is good fishing and the boy responds that there is an annual Seaking Catching Competition. Ash seems surprised by this, even Pikachu is confused. The scene switches to the site of the actual event, with epic music in the background. A man onstage starts to explain the rules of the competition. Competitors are allowed to use any rod, reel, or lure they wish and can catch as many Seaking as they want in the allotted time. However, they are only allowed to enter one Seaking that was caught in the Lake Ball that is provided. Ash comments to Pikachu how it is similar to the Azalea Town Bug-Catching Contest. The Seaking will be weighed, and the heaviest one will win a huge trophy and a year supply of chocolate bars. Competitors are only allowed to use 1 Pokémon to aid in catching the Seaking, and it must be registered. Ash wonders what Pokémon to use, and Brock tells him to use Pikachu. The camera switches to people checking in. A contestant sends out a big Poliwrath, and it's the same boy as before. He tells the check-in person that his name is Andreas. The entire crowd starts whispering to each other about how he amazing he is and that he has won every contest that he was entered into. They also said that he was on TV and that there is no one that can beat him. Andreas say that the crowd must know a winner when they see one. Misty responds to his comment by saying that she has news for "that conceded brat". Ash and Brock seem surprised. They're even more surprised when she says that she is going to beat him at his own game. Brock tells her that Andreas is a real winner and Misty says that she thinks he's a real loser. Misty says that she's been fishing with her sisters since she was a baby and that her water Pokémon are perfect for this competition. Brock starts to say "Yeah but..." when Misty interjects by saying there are no buts about it. He insulted her Poliwhirl and that he won't get away with it.
The scene changes to Misty calling out her Poliwhirl. She slams her hands on the registration desk and asks them to sign up her Poliwhirl as her partner. The scene switches like a clock and shows Ash registering with Pikachu. It changes again and shows Brock telling the registration lady that he wants her to be his partner. Her face goes blank and Misty quickly drags Brock away, saying that he missed the boat again. The scene switches to the docks; where all the competitors are in their boats and waiting to begin. Brock, Ash, and Misty are in a boat. Brock asks if they're all ready. They respond yes and then Andreas pulls up. He says "look who it is, it's Red and her little Poliweak". She responds that her name isn't red and her Poliwhirl isn't weak just because it isn't a bully. Andreas's Poliwrath stands up and speaks menacingly. Poliwhirl tries to do the same, with less effect. Suddenly, Psyduck pops out of its Pokéball and onto the side of the boat. It loses its balance and falls into the water while starting to drown. Andreas laughs at her Psyduck and comments on how her Psyduck can't swim. He says that he'd love to talk but he has a competition to win, he then drives off. Misty is holding her Psyduck and says that it's ok if it can't swim, at least it didn't sink.
The scene switches to the gang in their boat. Misty says that she won't let those 2 bullies beat them and Ash says that they'll show them. The horn blows and the competition has begun. Ash and Misty both cast out. Misty tells Poliwhirl that it'll probably take a while. She then hears Andreas yell that he already has a bite. Misty looks mortified, and Andreas asks if Poliwrath is ready. He pulls it out of the water and has Poliwrath use Doubleslap on the Seaking. Poliwrath Doubleslaps it until weak, then Andreas catches it with his lake ball. Ash says that he got one and Brock says that Andreas has a lot of experience. Misty says that he just got lucky. Andreas then releases the Seaking that he just caught. Ash and Misty are surprised and ask why. He responds that they catch little guys like that to warm up; the next one they catch will be really big. This angers Misty even more and she says "just like his mouth".
The scene switches to Team Rocket in a boat. Meowth says that if they win the contest then they will be able to have all of those Chocolate bars. James responds by saying that they haven't eaten in so long that he'd settle for licking the wrappers. Jessie says "there" and shows them her new lure. It's a Jessie lure and she says that no Seaking can resist it. Some time has passed. Meowth yawns and says that they've been sitting there for an hour and maybe her lure is scaring off all the Seaking. Jessie gets angry and starts beating her rod into the water. She yells that the "stupid" Seaking obviously don't appreciate her beauty. James restrains her and tells her to settle down. Jessie says that if Seaking won't go for a beautiful lure, then they'll go for an ugly lure; a Meowth lure. Meowth says that he didn't know she has a Meowth lure and asks to see it. She pops a breather in his mouth and ties him to a rock. She then says "presenting our live Meowth lure" the throws him in and tells him to use scratch attack when it sees a Seaking. She says that they'll win the trophy, while James comments about the "Marvelous Mountain of deep dark deliriously delicious Chocolate".
