Dusclops (Japanese: サマヨール Samayouru) is a Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Duskull starting at level 37 and evolves into Dusknoir when traded holding a Reaper Cloth.

Biology

Dusclops has a roundish gray body with two stubby legs. Its body is hollow and can absorb anything much like a black hole. It has single red eye and three tooth-like projections. It has two wispy, light gray growths coming out of its shoulders and one on top of its head. Its light gray hands appear to be directly attached to its body. It will have these hands to hypnotize opponents, and then force them to do as it wills. Dusclops usually lives in thick forests.

Main article: Emerald's Dusclops

Game data

NPC appearances

  • Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire: Dusclops has its own mini-game on the Sapphire Table, which can be accessed the first time the three Poké Balls in the middle of the table are lit up. Dusclops will not appear until 20 Duskull have been hit. After that, Dusclops must be hit five times to win. However, it will suck up the ball for a brief period if attacked from the front so it must be hit from behind or while it is moving.

Pokédex entries

This Pokémon was unavailable prior to Generation III.
Generation III
Ruby Dusclops's body is completely hollow - there is nothing at all inside. It is said that its body is like a black hole. This Pokémon will absorb anything into its body, but nothing will ever come back out.
Sapphire Dusclops absorbs anything, however large the object may be. This Pokémon hypnotizes its foe by waving its hands in a macabre manner and by bringing its single eye to bear. The hypnotized foe is made to do Dusclops's bidding.
Emerald It is thought that its body is hollow with only a spectral ball of fire burning inside. However, no one has been able to confirm this theory as fact.

Trivia

  • Dusclops can be seen as a parallel to Banette. Both are Generation III Ghost-type Pokémon that evolve from their pre-evolutions at level 37. Both also have the same base stat total. Wild Dusclops are exclusive to Ruby, while wild Banette are exclusive to Sapphire.

Origin

Dusclops is based on Chōchin-obake, which are one-eyed haunted paper lanterns. It also seems to have similarities to mummies.

Name origin

Dusclops may be a combination of dusk and cyclops.

Samayouru may be a combination of 彷徨う samayou (to wander about) and 夜 yoru (night).
