Dugtrio (Japanese: ダグトリオ Dugtrio) is a Ground-type Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
They are basically three Diglett together, though what they look like underground is a big mystery.
Gender differences
None that can be seen above ground.
Special abilities
They tunnel under the earth at massive speeds, triggering tremors and earthquakes.
Behavior
Habitat
Dugtrio live in tunnels and caves under the earth. They also sometimes live in burrows near forests where they maintain the soil plant trees to revitalize wooded areas.
Diet

Dugtrio might also eat dirt, as some underground-dwelling creatures do.
In the anime
Dugtrio first appeared in Dig Those Diglett. They working with Diglett to plant trees in a forest.
In The Underground Round Up, Poncho used Diglett and Dugtrio to rid a town of Electrode. Poncho only used his Dugtrio to get rid of Team Rocket's Electrode Eliminator.
Katie used a Dugtrio against Ash during the Hoenn League in Shocks and Bonds. Katie's Dugtrio defeated Ash's Pikachu and was defeated by Ash's Glalie.
In the manga
In Volume 3 of Pokémon Special, Giovanni is seen to have a Dugtrio as a part of his Ground-type team. It was used to shatter the opening mechanisms on Red's Poké Balls, preventing him from releasing his Pokémon.

In Pokémon Battle Revolution, when a Pokémon uses a Seismic Toss on a Dugtrio or Diglett, you can see that it lacks a body.
Origin
Dugtrio appears to be very similar to the artificial moles used in the Whac-A-Mole arcade games, as well as Dosojin, a Japanese fertility spirit.
Name origin
Dugtrio's name is a combination of dug, the past tense of dig, and trio, meaning three.
In other languages
- German: Digdri - Appears to be a combination of dig and tri, as in a prefix that means three.
- French: Triopiqueur - Trio means a group of three, and piqueur is a word sometimes used to mean the foreman of a mine.
- Korean: 닥트리오 Dakteurio
