Trivia

Origin

Dugtrio appears to be very similar to the artificial moles used in the Whac-A-Mole arcade games, as well as Dosojin, a Japanese fertility spirit.

Name origin

Dugtrio's name is a combination of dug, the past tense of dig, and trio, meaning three.

In other languages

  • German: Digdri - Appears to be a combination of dig and the prefix tri-.
  • French: Triopikeur - From trio and piqueur (foreman of a mine).
  • Korean: 닥트리오 Dakteurio
  • Chinese (Taiwan/China): 三地鼠 San Di Shu - "Three ground rodent".
  • Chinese (Hong Kong): 三頭地鼠 San Tou Di Shu - "Three headed ground rodent".
