Drew's Roserade (Japanese: シュウのロズレイド Shū's Roserade) was Drew's first Pokémon seen in the anime; at the time it was a Roselia.

History

As a Roselia

Hoenn

Roserade first appeared as a Roselia in Now that's Flower Power! when Drew challenged May to a Mach contest battle, where the winner would win some Bluk Berries. It battled against her Beautifly, managing to stop its opponents Tackle attack with Petal Dance and damage it severely with Stun Spore. However, Roselia's Magical Leaf was overcome by Silver Wind and it took damage, just as Team Rocket interrupted the match by stealing the berries. It then destroyed their Zap not mark 2 with SolarBeam and combined the attack with Pikachu's Thunderbolt to send them blasting off, and allowing Torchic to retrieve the berries. Roselia later sat and watched the fireworks that were made with the Bluk Berries.

In Win, Lose or Drew!, Roselia was used in the Slateport City Pokémon contest. In the appeal round, it finished an amazing performance by shredding Petal Dance with Magical Leaf and scoring a 29.4. Its first opponent in the battle round was May's Beautifly, where it effortlessly won, without taking a hit. It was later beaten in the second round by Robert's Milotic.

Roselia later appeared in Pros and Con Artists where it battled Ash's Taillow. It first incapacitated Taillow with Stun Spore and won the match with SolarBeam. In the next episode, Roselia was used in the Fallabor Town Pokémon contest, where it once again got through the appeal round, scoring high with a 29.6. In the battle round, Roselia was matched with Grace's Medicham. Roselia started off with Magical Leaf, but the attack was avoided by Medicham using its Meditate attack. Roselia was able to easily and gracefully evade Medicham's Ice Punch before having its Petal Dance sent back at it by Medicham's Confusion. Roselia launched a SolarBeam attack, but it was blocked by a shield of ice that Medicham created with its Ice Punch, the attack reflected of the ice and struck Roselia. It was then knocked out by its opponents Hi Jump Kick.

In Disaster of Disguise, it was seen being brutally defeated by Timmy Grimm's Dusclops. Drew rushed Roselia to the Pokémon centre and as a result of its injuries; he decided not to enter the Verdanturf Contest.

Roselia performed in the appeal round of the Rubello Town contest in Cruisin' for a Losin'. She made a gorgeous entrance with Petal Dance and sent Drew through to the battle round.

In Who, What, When, Where, Wynaut?, Roselia was set out to battle Jessie's Seviper on Mirage Island, while its trainer attempted to rescue May. It battled alongside a group of wild Wynaut who were trying to get back the Liechi Berries that Team Rocket stole. Roselia confused Team Rocket by using Petal Dance in the complete wrong direction; the wind blew the attack back and cut the rope May had been tied up in. It then stood back and watched Pikachu, Beautifly and Masquerain finish them off.

At the Grand Festival in Hi Ho Silver Wind!, Roselia reappeared alongside Drew, congratulating May for getting her fifth Ribbon and meeting Harley. Later in the preliminary appeal round, Roselia scored Drew a 95, sending him through to the first stage. In the episode after, Roselia was seen being groomed by its trainer with Masquerain. Finally in Rhapsody in Drew, Roselia was chosen alongside Flygon to battle in the third round against May's Combusken and Skitty. Roselia started the battle with Petal Dance, though Skitty's Assist became Fire Spin and incinerated the move, this allowed Flygon to quickly steal the attention and leave their opponents open to attack. It then launched a SolarBeam, along with Flygon's Flamethrower, which was amazingly stopped Combusken's Fire Spin. Roselia dodged Skitty's next Blizzard attack and jumped on Flygon. When Combusken was launched up to Roselia and its partner, it launched a Magic Leaf defence, though it was blown away by Blizzard. Confronted by Combusken's Quick Attack and Skitty's Tackle, Roselia paralysed them both with Stun Spore, escaping the hits and allowing Flygon to knock them out. After the final match and during the after party, Roselia was seen training with Masquerain.

Kanto Battle Frontier

It appeared alongside its trainer in Spontaneous Combusken, enjoying some rest and relaxation on Chrysanthemum Island.

Roselia appeared in May, We Harley Drew'd Ya! where it teamed up with Solidad's Slowbro to calm down a wild Aipom that was causing trouble in the Pokémon centre. Solidad revealed that Drew used Roselia in his very first contest, in which he and Roselia lost to her. Then in Thinning the Hoard!, Roselia was seen alongside Masquerain defeating a Medicham and a Loudred with a combination of Petal Dance and Silver Wind.

Roselia made its final Advanced Generation appearance in The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing. It was used in a Double Contest Battle alongside Drew's Butterfree against May's Combusken and her Beautifly. With a Psychic powered Fire Spin heading in their direction, Roselia blasted though it with Petal Dance. Afterwards, Beautifly used the sparks from the Fire Spin in combination with Psychic to attack once again; Roselia defended against them with Magical Leaf, though the attack was burned up. This allowed Combusken to go in for an attack but Butterfree used Gust to send Roselia's flaming Magical Leaf at its opponents. Roselia used Petal Dance which ended up absorbing power from Beautifly's on coming Silver Wind and dealing massive damage to it and Combusken. Combusken, however, broke through with Overheat, though Roselia was shielded by Buterfree's Protect and they combined SolarBeam and Psybeam to win the battle.

Johto

May revealed in A Full Course Tag Battle! that Roselia accompanied Drew to Johto, where it evidently evolved, as it was shown as a Roserade in her flashback and appeared watching the finals of the Wallace Cup with Drew, Solidad and Harley in Strategy With a Smile!.

Trivia

  • As a Roselia, its size was inconsistent between episodes but always much larger than regular Roselia.
  • Each of the three times May battled against it, she has lost even though most of her Pokémon that participated had the type advantage.
  • It is the only one of Drew's Pokémon that has been seen in two evolutionary stages.
