In the Pokémon world, there are many different dimensions. While trivial references to other dimensions were made early in the franchise's history, the concept was truly introduced in the fourth generation. Four of the Sinnoh region's legendary Pokémon have a connection to alternate dimensions which are an aspect of the main plot of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum; this is expanded on in the Diamond & Pearl series Pokémon movies.
It is stated in Spell of the Unown that all the Unown are from an alternate dimension. Ideas related to the Unown's dimension were expanded in Address Unown and the dimension made one more appearance in The Rise of Darkrai.
Travel between this dimension and the real Pokémon world has been shown to be possible through a puzzle box and a portal.
Dialga, Palkia, Giratina and Arceus each have their own dimensions. These were created by Arceus; Arceus's own dimension is the largest. These dimensions are mainly discussed in the Pokémon anime.
The dimensions are usually far away from each other, but due to shock waves caused by Arceus awakening from its deep slumber, Palkia and Dialga's dimensions clashed. This resulted in a fight, because each Pokémon thought that the other was trespassing onto their territory. This fight had a large range, even going as far as Giratina's dimension and the real Pokémon world. It subsided a short time before Arceus woke up.
A device called the Time-Space Axis in Michina Town is able to indicate the condition of every minute change in the time-space continuum, serving to mirror the movements of Palkia's, Dialga's, and Giratina's dimensions and thus monitoring the likelihood of potential cataclysm.
