Diane (Japanese: ダイアン Diane) is an anime character who appeared in Jirachi: Wish Maker. She assists her childhood friend, Butler, in his magic show.

Diane and Butler as children

Diane has been friends with Butler since the two of them were children. She was the one who originally gave him the title, "The Great Butler", after he performed magic tricks for her personally. She later became his assistant in his magic shows, however she wasn't supportive of him giving up his magic to become a scientist for Team Magma. She noticed her life-long friend being consumed by the urge to get revenge on Team Magma, and yearned for things to be like the way they were. After a failed presentation to create a "living breathing" Groudon Fossil, she traveled to Forina with Butler and was present when he found Jirachi in its crystallized cocoon. Afterward, the pair continued their magic shows, and performed at the festival to celebrate the Millennium Comet.

She first meets Ash, May, Max, and Brock, when Max rushes onto the stage after hearing a voice coming from Jirachi's cocoon. She and Butler decide Max should hold on to the cocoon to see if being Max's friend will awaken Jirachi. This proves successful as the celestial Pokémon sleepily awakens from its thousand year slumber. The next night, once Ash and his friends have gone to sleep, she reluctantly assists Butler in kidnapping Jirachi and setting it up as the power source for Butler's experiment to resurrect Groudon. However the plan backfires when the group awakes to find Jirachi missing, and witness Butler's selfish deed. Diane leads them away from Butler and into their trailer and drives off, but not before a tracking device is placed on the trailer. Diane then explains the entire situation to the group and Jirachi's potential energy. She then agrees to take them all to Forina to ensure Jirachi is safely back home.

When they finally arrive at Forina, they are caught by Butler who is still persistent on getting what he wants. When the fake Groudon is awoken, she was swallowed right in front of Butler, but not before confessing her love to Butler, who is overcome with grief. However once the Groudon has been eliminated she, along with all the other characters and Pokémon eaten by the beast, is revitalized. She and Butler witness Ash and his friends saying their good-byes to Jirachi, and inform them that they have decided to start a new life together in Forina.

She and Butler made a cameo during the ending-credits of Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

In the games

Diane, along with Butler, appeared in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum as an Ace Trainer on Route 229, though the reference was not caught by the English localization team of Diamond and Pearl, who renamed her Dana. She uses Mightyena and Kirlia, two Pokémon owned by Butler in the anime.
