Detect (Japanese: みきり All-Seeing) is a non-damaging Fighting-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TM43 in Generation II.
Effect
Generation II
Detect protects the user from all effects of moves that target it during the turn it is used, including damage. This does not include damage afflicted by weather it is susceptible to, or damage from a status condition that it obtained on a previous turn. Using Detect, Protect, or Endure consecutively decreases the chance of success by 50% each use, whether it is successful or not. Detect cannot prevent the effects of Perish Song.
The following moves cannot be stopped by Detect:
|
Generation III
Detect works the same as it did in Generation II.
The following moves cannot be stopped by Detect:
|
Generation IV
Detect now has a 50% chance of success on the current turn if Detect, Protect, or Endure was used successfully on the previous turn. Detect fails if the user goes last in the turn. Otherwise, it is exactly the same as Generation II - III.
In Diamond and Pearl only, if an attack is given perfect accuracy through the effect of a move (Lock-On/Mind Reader), the weather (Thunder in Rain, or Blizzard in Hail), a Micle Berry, or an Ability (No Guard), it has a chance to hit through Detect equal to (100 - move accuracy)%
. OHKO moves are
unaffected, and will never hit through Detect.
The following moves cannot be stopped by Detect:
Additionally, Feint and Shadow Force lift Detect's protection for the rest of the turn.
Generation V
Detect no longer has a minimum success rate, and still has 50% decay, which now includes Quick Guard and Wide Guard as well.
The following moves cannot be stopped by Detect:
|
Additionally, Feint and Shadow Force lift Detect's protection for the rest of the turn.
Generation VI
The moves King's Shield and Spiky Shield now also decrease the chance of success of Detect. Even though Quick Guard and Wide Guard no longer fail due to consecutive use, they still decrease the chance of success of Detect on consecutive turns.
The following moves cannot be stopped by Detect:
|
Additionally, Feint, Shadow Force, and Phantom Force lift Detect's protection for the rest of the turn.

- The in-game descriptions for this move's capability isn't entirely true. The only moves it will never block are Shadow Force and Feint.
- Detect is the only Fighting-type status move introduced in Generation II.
- Detect is also the first Fighting-type status move ever introduced, due to Generation I having none.
