A Contest combination is a pairing of two moves out of a specific set that form a specially recognized combination when used one after another in Pokémon Contests and Pokémon Super Contests, granting the user additional Appeal Points.

Several of these combinations were actually introduced in Generation II, before Contests existed in the games, as "combination attacks" that offered beneficial bonuses when used one after another in battle, such as Defense Curl being followed by Rollout.

Many of these moves can follow up one move to form a combination, as well as be followed up by another move to form a different combination. Stacking combinations, however, is not allowed; only one combination can occur at a time. If a move is used as a follow-up for one combination, it cannot act as the setup for another combination that same turn.

Pokémon Contests

When any of the combinations below is used, the second move of that combination will receive double the base Appeal Points that it would have earned otherwise. Extra hearts from increased condition or position bonuses are not affected.

Pokémon Super Contests

Unlike in Hoenn region Contests, Sinnoh region Contests combinations do not double the base Appeal Points of the second move, but instead add some amount. Additionally, many combinations that work in Hoenn Contests do nothing in Sinnoh Super Contests.

Shadow Ball Swift combination.png Shadow Ball-Swift Houndoom uses Shadow Ball and then uses Swift on it. The Swift stars begin to rotate around the Shadow Ball, giving it an amazing look. The combination was used by Joshua in the Appeals Round of the Pacifidlog Town Contest in Mean With Envy.
Razor Leaf-Silver Wind combo.png Razor Leaf-Silver Wind Bulbasaur uses Razor Leaf and Beautifly uses Silver Wind. The two moves combine to land a critical hit on the opponents. The combination was used by May during her battle against Harley in the Hoenn Grand Festival in Rhapsody in Drew.
Swift Psychic combination.png Swift-Psychic Espeon uses Swift and then uses Psychic on it, involving the Swift stars in a light blue aura and moving them so as to form several rings. Espeon then leaps and somersaults several times through the rings and gracefully lands on the stage. The combination was used by Lilian Meridian during the preparations for the Saffron City Contest in The Saffron Con.
Focus Ball.png Focus Ball Eevee launches a Shadow Ball and Munchlax uses Focus Punch on it. The Focus Punch energy fuses with the Shadow Ball and makes it stronger, faster and prettier. The combination was used by May during her battle against Harley in the Kanto Grand Festival in Thinning the Hoard!.
Dragon Razor Wind.png Dragon Razor Wind Absol launches a Razor Wind and Flygon uses DragonBreath on it, improving the attack's speed and power. The combination was used by Drew during his battle against May in the quarter-finals of the Kanto Grand Festival in Channeling the Battle Zone!.
Water and Fire Whirlwind.png Water and Fire Whirlwind Combusken uses Fire Spin and Squirtle uses Bubble. The two moves fuse and trap the opponent inside it. Blue sparks appear where the bubbles touch the Fire Spin. The combination is based upon Dome Ace Tucker's Fire and Water tactic. It was used by May during her battle against Drew in the Kanto Grand Festival in Channeling the Battle Zone! and again in A Full Course Tag Battle! with Dawn's Piplup replacing Squirtle.
DP041.png Mud Bomb-Shock Wave Shellos fires a Mud Bomb into the air and Glameow uses Shock Wave on it, dotting up the attack. Shellos then uses Hidden Power on the balls of mud, destroying them to create a beautiful and flashy fireworks display. The combination was used by Zoey in A Stand-Up Sit-Down!.
Spinning Poison Sting.png Spinning Poison Sting Dustox uses Poison Sting towards the sky. When the stings begin to fall, Seviper hits them with Poison Tail, making them spin very fast while heading towards the opponent. It also adds power to them. The combination was used by Jessilina during her battle against Zoey in A Stand-Up Sit-Down!.
Shadow Claw Blizzard combination.png Shadow Claw-Blizzard Glameow uses Shadow Claw and then Shellos uses Blizzard on it. The two moves fuse into a Shadow Claw filled with small snowballs. The combination was used by Zoey during her battle against Jessilina in A Stand-Up Sit-Down!.
Ash Buizel Ice Aqua Jet.png Ice Aqua Jet Buizel uses another Pokémon's Ice-type move to freeze its Aqua Jet while going towards the opponent. The combination was first attempted by Dawn in A Stand-Up Sit-Down! and successfully used by Ash in his battle against Kyle in the Wallace Cup in Pruning a Passel of Pals!. It was used again in A Crasher Course in Power!, Classroom Training! and Familiarity Breeds Strategy!.
Flame Ice combo.png Flame Ice Mamoswine uses Ice Shard to trap Cyndaquil in a cuboid of ice. Cyndaquil then uses Flame Wheel, which causes the cuboid to shine beautifully, and goes towards the opponent. The combination was developed by Dawn in Double-Time Battle Training! and used against Ursula in the Daybreak Contest in Playing the Performance Encore!.
Haze SonicBoom combination.png Haze-SonicBoom Seviper uses Haze and Yanmega uses SonicBoom. The two moves fuse into a SonicBoom with streaks of smoke. The combination was used by Jessilina during her battle against Ursula in the Daybreak Contest in Playing the Performance Encore!.
Poison Silver Wind combination.png Poison Tail-Silver Wind Yanmega lifts Seviper into the air. Seviper then holds its Poison Tail towards the sky and Yanmega uses Silver Wind on the tail, causing purple missiles to be formed. The combination was used by Jessilina during her battle against Ursula in the Daybreak Contest in Playing the Performance Encore!.
Quadruple Combination.png Quadruple Combination Mamoswine uses Ice Shard and jumps into the air to eat it. The fur on its back is then frozen and Mamoswine gains ice spikes. Cyndaquil uses Swift in a circle around Mamoswine and makes the flame on its back split into two. Mamoswine then uses Take Down while Cyndaquil is on its back. The combination was used by Dawn during her battle against Ursula in the final of the Daybreak Contest in Playing the Performance Encore!.
DP175.png Scary Face-Sandstorm Gabite uses Sandstorm to create a cyclone and Flareon uses Scary Face in the eye of the cyclone to make a frightening image in the sand. The combination was used by Ursula during her battle against Dawn in the Sinnoh Grand Festival in Opposites Interact!.
Ice Chandelier.png Ice Chandelier Buneary uses Ice Beam or Mamoswine uses Ice Shard to trap Pachirisu in a ball of ice. Pachirisu then runs around in the ball while using Discharge. The result is a chandelier of ice that glows in a beautiful blue hue. Pachirisu can run inside the chandelier to hit the foes. AncientPower allows it to float while Hidden Power adds power to it. The combination was developed by Dawn in Teaching the Student Teacher! and used against Ursula in the Sinnoh Grand Festival in Opposites Interact!.
Energy Fusion Ball.png Energy Fusion Ball Leafeon uses Energy Ball and Mismagius uses Shock Wave. The two moves fuse to create an electrifying meteorite. The combination was used by Zoey during her battle against Nando in the semi-finals of the Sinnoh Grand Festival in Coming Full-Festival Circle!.
Snowflakes.png Snowflakes Kricketune uses Silver Wind while Lopunny spins in a circle around it and uses Blizzard, causing the two moves to fuse and form snowflakes that float gently down to the ground. The combination was used by Nando during his battle against Zoey in the semi-finals of the Sinnoh Grand Festival in Coming Full-Festival Circle!.
Aerial Ace-Psywave combo.png Aerial Ace-Psywave Leafeon uses Aerial Ace and Mismagius uses Psywave. The two moves combine to give Leafeon beautiful bluish-white wings. Leafeon then goes towards the opponent while using Leaf Blade. The combination was used by Zoey during her battle against Nando in the semi-finals of the Sinnoh Grand Festival in Coming Full-Festival Circle!.
Signal Tail.png Signal Tail Gallade fires a Signal Beam at Glameow while it is using Iron Tail. By twirling its tail around, Glameow captures the Signal Beam and gives the move a spiral effect. Glameow then fires the move at the opponent. The combination was used by Zoey during her battle against Dawn in the final of the Sinnoh Grand Festival in A Grand Fight for Winning!.
Aura Whirlpool.png Aura Whirlpool Piplup fires a Whirlpool and Togekiss fires an Aura Sphere inside it, causing the Whirlpool to turn light blue. The combination was used by Dawn during her battle against Zoey in the final of the Sinnoh Grand Festival in A Grand Fight for Winning!.
SkyAttack Peck Combination.png Rocket Formation Togekiss utilizes Sky Attack while having Piplup on her back using Peck. It results in a crimson aerial attack which resembles a rocket. The combination was used by Dawn during her battle against Zoey in the final of the Sinnoh Grand Festival in A Grand Fight for Winning!.
Electrified Psycho Cut.png Electrified Psycho Cut Glameow puts its tail up and Gallade jumps into it. Glameow then uses Thunderbolt on Gallade, causing his blades to be charged with electricity. The blades start to glow yellow, and Gallade fires an electrified Psycho Cut at the opponent. The combination was used by Zoey during her battle against Dawn in the final of the Sinnoh Grand Festival in A Grand Fight for Winning!.
