Trivia

Origin

Chimecho is based on a Japanese wind chime.

Name origin

Chimecho's name is a combination of chime and echo. On the other hand, considering Chimecho's association with feelings, the species’ name may be derived from kimochi (気持ち), a Japanese word meaning “feeling”, “mood”, or “sensation”. In fact, the species’ name may result from an alteration of the syllables and phonetic values of this term (from ki-mo-chi to chi-mi-ko). Chirean is based on ちりん chirin, the Japanese onomatopoeia of a chime and 風鈴 fūrin, wind chime.

In other languages

  • German: Palimpalim - Alludes to a very popular German comedy sketch which starts with someone shouting "Palimpalim!" to mimic a doorbell.
  • French: Eoko - A corruption of écho, and possibly a pun on hé oh!, a commonly used surprised interjection.
  • Korean: 치렁 Chireong
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 風鈴鈴 Fēng Líng Líng - The name is 風鈴 (wind chime) with the last character repeated.
