Cherrim (Japanese: チェリム Cherrim) is a Grass-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Cherubi starting at level 25.

Cherrim changes appearance in sunny weather.

Biology

Physiology

Cherrim has two different forms, both of which are dependent on the weather (a trait that is also found in Castform). This is a clear representation of plants which follow phototropism, and react directly to sunlight intensity. During normal weather conditions, it appears as two crossing purple petals with a short purple stem, a green leafy sepal covering, and two deep pink feet; its eyes appear to be near its legs in this form. When there is strong sunlight, it appears to have a skirt and "hair" made of pink cherry-blossom petals, radiating outward from a yellow sphere on the back of its head that resembles the center of a flower, along with a small triangular patch of green on its neck. Additionally, two berry-like orbs, resembling cherry-shaped hair ornaments, adorn its head. It has stubby limbs, with the arms being pink and the legs being yellow.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Cherrim, like many other Grass-types, can utilize the sun in order to use moves like Synthesis and SolarBeam. Cherrim is also able to learn seed-based moves like Leech Seed and Worry Seed, with supporting moves such as Growth, Helping Hand, and Lucky Chant.

Behavior

Cherrim is said to release all of its pent up anger when it opens. Because of this, it is continuously happy until it closes again.

Habitat

Cherrim have been seen many times resting on top of tree branches, waiting for a beam of sunlight so they may change form.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Cherrim's reactions to sunlight suggest that it is also photosynthetic.

In the anime

Major appearances

Cherrim made its anime debut appearance in Battling the Generation Gap! under the ownership of Lila.

Three Cherrim appeared in The Lonely Snover!.

Minor appearances

Cherrim made its first appearance in the movie The Rise of Darkrai, where several of them appeared.

Multiple Cherrim made a brief appearance in Coming Full-Festival Circle!.

Trivia

  • While in the English localization Cherrim's forms are called Overcast Form and Sunshine Form, the Japanese names of its forms use 「フォルム」 form, which is otherwise only used in the names of forms which are localized as Forme.
  • Sunshine Form Cherrim seems to remain in a state of euphoria even in its fainting animation in Pokémon Battle Revolution.
  • Although the Pokédex in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum allows different forms of a Pokémon to be viewed, Cherrim, along with Castform are the only Pokémon whose alternate forms cannot be viewed in these games. Only the Overcast Form and its gender differences (although it does not have any) are available.
    • The games do not even state that Cherrim is in Overcast Form while viewing its Pokédex entry.

Origin

It appears that Cherrim is based on cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms are flowers that symbolize Japan.

Name origin

Cherrim is a combination of cherry and cherubim or blossom. It may also involve cherimoya (a fruit-bearing tree) or tirim (Irish for dry, as in dry weather).
