Camerupt (Japanese: バクーダ Bakuuda) is a dual-type Fire/Ground Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Camerupt is very similar in physiology to a Bactrian Camel. However, instead of the usual humps on its back, it has volcanoes. Camerupt's body contains large amounts of molten lava, which it occasionally erupts out of these volcanoes.

Gender differences

The two volcanoes on a female Camerupt's back are bigger than the ones on a male.

Special abilities

The volcanoes on Camerupt's back will erupt if the Pokémon becomes angered, spewing hot molten rock. This allows it to be able to use damaging Fire moves like Lava Plume and Eruption.

Behavior

Much like real camels, Camerupt are usually placid, but may be stubborn and bad tempered. However, they get uncontrollably angry when hit in the face.

Habitat

Camerupts are usually found near mountains of volcanic origin.

Once Pikachu struck Vicky's Camerupt on the nose with Iron Tail, Camerupt went on an Eruption rampage. Vito's Alakazam used Rain Dance in order to stop Camerupt before it could reach the Winstrate's vegetable patch.

In Lights, Camerupt, Action, a man named Elijah was using a Camerupt to help carry his film-making equipment.

A Camerupt was one of Noland's Pokémon in Numero Uno Articuno.

Trivia

  • In the Sapphire Pokédex entry, the volcanoes erupt when Camerupt is angry, but in Emerald it says that the volcanoes erupt every 10 years.
  • Camerupt is the only Pokémon that isn't a Template:Type2 that learns Rock Slide by level, not counting Slugma because it evolves into Magcargo, who is a Template:Type2.

Origin

Camerupt is essentially a Bactrian camel with volcanoes on its back instead of humps.

Name origin

Camerupt's name is a combination of camel and erupt. Its Japanese name is based on 爆弾 bakudan, bomb, or 爆発 bakuhatsu, explosion or eruption, and 駱駝 rakuda, camel. Also, two-humped camels are called Bactrian camels.
