Camerupt (Japanese: バクーダ Bakuuda) is a dual-type Fire/Ground Pokémon.

It evolves from Numel starting at level 33.

Biology

Physiology

Camerupt is very similar in physiology to a Bactrian camel. However, instead of the usual humps on its back, it has volcanoes. Camerupt's body contains large amounts of molten lava, which it occasionally erupts out of these volcanoes. They also have a stout body with red shaggy fur, a tan furless muzzle. This Pokémon also features 3 blue rings (or 0's) on the sides of its body. The rings don't seem to serve a purpose, and may just be eye candy for the Pokémon.

Gender differences

The two volcanoes on a female Camerupt's back are bigger than the ones on a male.

Special abilities

The volcanoes on Camerupt's back will erupt if the Pokémon becomes angered, spewing hot molten rock. This allows it to be able to use damaging Fire moves like Lava Plume and Eruption.

Behavior

Much like real camels, Camerupt are usually placid, but may be very stubborn and bad tempered. They can become uncontrolablly angry when struck in the face.

Habitat

Camerupt are usually found near mountains of volcanic origin.

Vito's Alakazam used Rain Dance in order to stop Camerupt before it could reach the Winstrate's vegetable patch.

In Lights, Camerupt, Action, a man named Elijah was using a Camerupt to help carry his film-making equipment.

A Camerupt was one of Noland's Pokémon in Numero Uno Articuno.

Camerupt made a cameo appearance in One Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team!

A Camerupt attacked Ash and his friends in DP140.

Trivia

  • In the Sapphire, FireRed and LeafGreen Pokédex entries, the volcanoes erupt when Camerupt is angry, but in Emerald it says that the volcanoes erupt every 10 years. The anime also shows its volcanoes erupting when it's angry, and in Mystery Dungeon it says it will erupt when it's angry.
  • Camerupt is the only Pokémon that learns Rock Slide by level-up, but doesn't have a Template:Type2 in its evolutionary line.
  • Though many Pokémon change their ability upon evolution, Camerupt is the only Pokémon whose abilities both differ from its pre-evolution.
  • Camerupt has the highest Special Attack out of all Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Origin

Camerupt is essentially a Bactrian camel with volcanoes on its back instead of humps.

Name origin

Camerupt's name is a combination of camel and erupt. Its Japanese name is based on 爆弾 bakudan, bomb, or 爆発 bakuhatsu, explosion or eruption, and 駱駝 rakuda, camel. Also, two-humped camels are called Bactrian camels.
