Starting out

OK, welcome aboard, everyone... So far we're not a lot of users, but hopefully more will join soon (after all, this project isn't even up for a full 24 hours).

I finished (with a little help from CoolPikachu!) putting the notice templates on all related pages (hopefully I haven't missed any).

The next thing we need to do, as I see it, is fugure out what is the perfect song article?. What is our article structure? Let's focus on songs for now, and then move to CDs. Thoughts? --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 10:15, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Right now everything's good some clean-up and some other things but yea we're good--☆CoolPikachu! 10:22, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Good is a relative term... The articles aren't all in the same format, and many of them are stubs. --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 11:12, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

What's the format for Japanese song titles? I noticed we don't translate Haruka, Hikari, and Takeshi for their theme songs, but we do translate names of Pokémon such as for Riding on Lapras or Meowth's Song. However, there are other song articles like Big Nyarth's Day that don't translate the Pokémon species to the English species. What consistency are we using? Are we only translating Pokémon species, but not Human characters? Should everything be translated to the English version? Or, should names always be left in the Japanese version. This is important for consistency in article titles. Satosuke 23:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

You're right. We're inconsistent. I never noticed that. Any of our resident sysops like to solve this for us? --electAbuzzzz 00:25, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, since 2 of our resident admins are currently away and the third isn't responding, I'll make my first "leader decision" without any admin advice, but if anyone thinks differently just say so. What we'll do is this: for human characters, we'll use their Japanese names (Haruka, Hikari, Takeshi), and for Pokémon we'll use the English names. That means the only article that currently needs changing is Big Nyarth Day. I'll take care of that. --electAbuzzzz 08:31, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I like the idea. It has always been a pet peeve of sorts about the song names. Sorry, I was very distracted yesterday and still am until all those pages are made for my project. MaverickNate 12:32, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

What bothers me in Music Articles.

I'm sick of those stupid, unneccessary and often irrelevant piped links in the song texts in song articles. Am I the only one who thinks we should eradicate them? --Maxim 12:13, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I strongly disagree. Most of the are very relevant, and they make the already-usually-stubbish-pages look less black and empty of content... If the lyrics refer to a specific topic in the franchise, why not link to it? --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 12:52, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree with ElectAbuzzzz Takoto タコト| サソデイ = 愛 13:33, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Maybe because they really don't refer to any topic in franchise? Most of them are purely overinterpretated. I hate such overinterpretations. --Maxim 13:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Then let's seperate the "direct references" from "overinterpretations". Give me an example - what do you consider overinterpretation? --electAbuzzzz (TALK) 13:53, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

External Linking To Songs

If you can find a link to a song, you should put in at the end of the page under "External Links". TTE encourages linking to openings and endings, so I think the same should apply here. Porygon-Z 13:47, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and I guess I should let you know I joined the project! I've made a few articles on music stuff before, so, yeah. Porygon-Z 13:51, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Are there any English openings that can be linked to that are similar to the Japanese themes, ones that are not YouTube? rockersk08 18:13, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

It Takes Two

I was told here a while back that there was a song called "It Takes Two" in a commercial to help promote the Ruby and Sapphire games and double-battles performed by Veronica Taylor and Rachael Lillis as Ash and Misty. I'm not an American so I never heard of it. Does anyone have anything about this song, so that we could create an article about it? --electAbuzzzz 12:04, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I've got the song. According to Talk:Veronica Taylor, PPN used to have it, but it was lost. But there's a youtube video of it, and the song is acquirable. I have the mp3, but it's not an official mp3 because it wasn't ever released. It would be great if we could get a page on the song though. Satosuke 04:21, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey guys! I have an update on this! Yes, a video of "It Takes Two" does exist, but it would be very difficult for anyone to find. According to PPN, this commercial was only aired 2 or 3 times on KidsWB (and it wasn't aired during Pokemon). Also, I have some more information. I met Veronica Taylor this month at New York Comic Con, and I asked her about the song "It Takes Two". However, when I asked her about it, she seemed kinda surprised. She told me that the song was actually an in-house production and, that she didn't know how I could've heard it. So anyway, I guess this means someone who works at 4Kids (or at the studio) must've leaked this song to the public after it was produced. Wow! That's awesome! O.O --PokemonTrainerLisa 08:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Trade Please

On the trivia section of DP055, it says "Jessie says the title of the song とりかえっこプリーズ Trade Please." with a link to Trade Please. Is "Trade Please" a song in the anime? MoldyOrange 19:34, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Never mind. I found that it meant Torikaekko Please. Why that page title isn't in English is beyond me. MoldyOrange 19:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Joining the Project

I'd like to join the project; I'm not too fond of the forums though. But I've been doing a major fix up of couple of songs, and I made the page for Together with the Wind, and I'd like to do what I can to help the project. It's something I've been fond of for a long time now, and I think I could help in this not-too-much-attention-getting-field. Satosuke 04:13, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Welcome aboard. You can start by helping me fill in the blanks in the newly created It Takes Two. Lillis wasn't very clear on some lines... Then again, maybe it's just my not-native ear. --electAbuzzzz 09:37, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

I'd also like to join the project; I love Pokemon music. I can help with High Touch! and Surely Tomorrow lyrics for starters, and maybe a few other things as well. I'm glad this project exists and I can't wait to get started! Pikachugal 20:01, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd also like to join the project. I've been doing some fix ups on a couple of songs. So.. I'd like to know how I can help in the project. Lance123 13:30, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Game Music

I know a lot of this project covers the vocalized music produced as promotional material for the anime and other related Pokémon franchises, but does this project also cover the instrumental tracks used in the games? I don't mean individual pages for each track, but perhaps a section on the music of one generation and in what ways it has been remixed on the Stadiums and in the anime? -K2JMan 03:14, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I think that would be a good idea. Some of the tracks of video game music have certainly had quite a bit of influence. Since this project also covers CD's and musicians, I think that the video game music would need to be covered in more detail than it has so far. it would have be selective though. Sacrifice 22:29, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

OK, I know it's been forever, but I'm thinking on finally acting on that suggestion. We already have articles about CDs containing game music. Anyone had any ideas how we can do more in that area? --אלקטבאזזזז 18:24, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

New member! ♪

Hello all! May I joibn the project? I've been editing a bunch of lesser-known song pages (Kaze to Isso ni, Mamoru beki mono, yume miru lovely boy, etc..) so I thought I might as well try to join this project. Is that okay? I can find the kanji and english translations for a lot of songs, as well as some stuff like composers and whatnot. --Snowrunt 18:40, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely, welcome aboard. Just add your name to the list. Take a look at our 2DO list to see what needs to be done. --electAbuzzzz 19:41, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

YouTube links

OK, there's been some confusion regarding this subject, so I'll clear things up: yes, we used to encouraged YouTube links to song videos. Yes, the rules changed. I just talked to MAGNEDETH - no more YouTube links are allowed, unless they link to the official BMG channel, or one of our affiliates. --electAbuzzzz 21:33, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Ideas?Conclusions? or what

How can we expand the articles of the song that is stub like this one Brother My Brother? Any one's conclusion or something... cause i found out that almost all of the song articles were stub so i think we should make a move♪"AngelGuardian" 08:48, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

What do you mean "conclusion"? There's not much to put there, and that's the nature of song articles. You could put a small section about the song's relevance to the movie - but that would work for this song, not for all songs. --electAbuzzzz 14:42, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

lyrics ♪

When adding in lyrics for Japanese songs (or any song, I suppose), do we have two lyrics sections, one for the TV edit and one for the full lyrics? Or is it preferred to use only the full lyrics? --ℓaℓa ℓe snoωrunt 16:48, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

If the lyrics are different, like in We Will Be Heroes, we have two sections. If just extra lyrics were added to the original, like in Born to Be a Winner, we just use the full version. --electAbuzzzz 17:23, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

So here's a question:

I have a 2.B.A. Master piano book. It has all the songs from the CD in piano sheet format. I thought that it might be something to add to Bulbapedia, but where, exactly? Would it go under music? I'm not sure how to go about that. --The ωild Snoωrunt fled! 16:48, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

That's a very interesting idea. I like it. Not sure on the how, though. I'll look into it. --electAbuzzzz 17:02, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
I'd love to have sheet music for those song. Just scan the pages and save them as pictures. Vhayes1992 23:02, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Speaking of piano sheet music, I just grabbed my "Boku no Best Friend e" single to work on the lyrics and rediscovered that it comes with sheet music (for TV size). Any interest in that, too? Once the "how" is figured out, at least... :3 梅子 02:05, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
The main question would be the legality of it. It would likely be illegal to publish (yes, that's what we would be doing) this music on the internet. —darklordtrom 04:41, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Ooh yeah, that's true. (Durh.) You can't even photocopy that stuff for educational use (or you can only make a certain number of photocopies, or whatever). We're probably best off avoiding the sheet music altogether, then. 梅子 05:40, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I think it's at least worth a mention that it was released as a piano book, though. I know recorder sheet music is also out there, too. ZestyCactus 05:41, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Maybe its own article, then? Just like all the other books that approximately three people bought that have articles. 梅子 05:44, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I think that this might be better off as a subsection of the 2.B.A. Master article considering it's the same music, but I don't have the final say. ZestyCactus 05:46, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I know there's a piano book out there (I've attempted to play some of the pieces, to varying degrees of success :P), so what we do is give it an article with a song listing. Then, on each of those song pages note that it was released as part of Pokémon Song Anthology or whatever. If it's just one song, then a small note with a picture of the cover art would be nice. On a side note, I'm going to search Amazon. I wonder how much the recorder arrangements would set me back... ;D —darklordtrom 06:01, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

(resetting indent) Now, I was going to write an article about this piano book, but... it doesn't seem to have any title other than "Pokémon 2.B.A. Master". D: So should I just put it at "Pokémon 2.B.A. Master (piano book)" or what? ZestyCactus 05:19, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

(book) shall be fine. That way we can still use the link template :D —darklordtrom 05:54, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Just to put it on the record, I meant to add an article for the book in the first place, not actually scan the sheets. ^^; What information do you need? I have the book right here. --The ωild Snoωrunt fled! 06:06, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Article is right here. —darklordtrom 08:41, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Missing Movie 1 soundtrack

I'm puzzled why there's no article for the soundtrack of Movie 1, "サウンドピクチャーボックス ミュウツーの誕生." I first found about it from a page on an old website called Pocket Monsters Repository, and it indeed has an article on Wikipedia of Japan. It is a little treasure, with more than two dozen music pieces, many of which were often used in the anime.

I want to make a new article for the soundtrack, but it seems really weird to me that no one has made an article for this yet, when every single other CD impressively seems to be catalogued here in Bulbapedia. Complicating things is that The Birth of Mewtwo story already has an article, and it was released on a CD along with Movie 1's soundtrack (I don't know if the radio drama was sold in the same product as the soundtrack). What ought I to do?

Redletterday 01:06, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
