Pokémon learnsets have had varying standards over the time Bulbapedia has existed. Since it was established in late 2004, the learnsets have, overall, changed standards four different times. This page will detail said standards for Bulbasaur's page.

Original standard

The original learnset standard was simply a bulleted list of moves the Pokémon could learn with the method by which they could do so.

Gem standard

The second learnset standard took into account the multiple generations of Pokémon games, listing off the moves learned through each of them.

This, of course, made it difficult to determine exactly which moves were learned in which generation at a glance, since TMs and HMs did not stay the same, nor did level-up moves. However, it did introduce the use of type-color as the chart header and bold and italic to indicate STAB for the Pokémon or its evolutions.

DP standard

The third standard separated the learnsets for all four generations into separate charts united into one superchart. This added the possibility of two-type headers, and just the same, caused the charts to be more readable. Unfortunately, there was a tremendously long amount of coding, and each image contributed to stress on the Bulbagarden server. Some time after the revelation of Platinum, this standard began to be replaced by the next one...

Platinum standard

Finally, all four generations were separated, and Generations I-III were relegated to the past... on subpages! This standard removes the type and damage category icons, replacing them with colored links. Additionally, the extra space afforded by the removal of previous generations allowed for moves' power, accuracy, base PP, contest category, appeal, and in Generation III, jam, to be added to the information presented. Easy links to the other generations' learnsets are also included.

BW standard

With the fifth generation, another redesign was required, as Bulbapedia moved further forward. The roundies got roundier. The tables became more aesthetically pleasing. And now there were images!
