The Editorial Board is the authority on official policy and style used on Bulbapedia.

While Bulbapedia is indeed a community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia, every community needs leaders, and the senior staff at Bulbagarden feel that an official voice should exist to have a final say in issues and disputes, as well as in the appearance of Bulbapedia's content, allowing Bulbapedia to remain consistent and aesthetically pleasing.

The Editorial Board shall consist of the Bulbapedia Editor-in-Chief as well as six Bureaucrats chosen by the Editor-in-Chief. The Bulbanews and Bulbagarden Archives Editors-in-Chief will sit on the board, and their opinions will be considered on issues regarding Bulbapedia, however, they will not have an official vote on Bulbawiki issues except in the case that the issue affects Bulbanews and Bulbagarden Archives as well as Bulbapedia. Former Bulbapedia Editors-in-Chief remain in advisory roles to the board, while former members of the Editorial Board retain Bureaucrat status indefinitely, except in cases that they resign this status.

For the main Editorial Board, seat order is a formality that should be used when contacting them via talkpage on Bulbapedia-related issues. Editorial Board members should be contacted in reverse numerical order on questions of Bulbapedia policy and style, most especially if they have recently edited the wiki, so as to ensure a more timely response. The holders of seats 8 and 9 should only be contacted if none of the main Editorial Board is around, while former Editors-in-Chief and Archaic should be contacted only in extreme emergencies.

Authority

The Editorial Board, being the ultimate in Bulbapedia authority, has the ability to set official, binding policy. Statements from the Editorial Board as a whole and from members thereof are to be read as the law of Bulbapedia, unless contradicted by a higher power (in the case of individual members, by the Editor-in-Chief, and in the case of the Board itself, by Archaic).

Editorial Board members are allowed unlimited use of the userspace, where they may put test templates and other things relevant to Bulbapedia and the Pokémon series.

They also retain the following rights:

  • Locking and unlocking of the Bulbapedia database for maintenance
  • The ability to change all user rights on all Bulbagarden wikis
  • The ability to rename users on individual wikis and in the central database

Activities

The Editorial Board conducts discussions on matters of style, policy, and position of Bulbapedia in the Bulbapedia Administration forum on the Bulbagarden Forums, while some discussions may also be held in the main Bulbawiki Discussion forum, shared with Bulbagarden Archives and Bulbanews.

From time to time, the Editorial Board may call for volunteers from among Bulbapedia's editors to become Junior Administrators, allowing them greater editing power on the wiki, such as the ability to edit protected pages. The Editorial Board is responsible for all promotions as well, and any Bureaucrats who wish to promote a user must inform at least one member of the Editorial Board first.

Significant disputes which the Editorial Board cannot come to a consensus on may result in edicts being issued by the Executive Policymakers.

Joining the Editorial Board

For a user to join the Editorial Board, several requirements must be met. The user must already be a Bureaucrat, having shown dedication to Bulbapedia far above and beyond their peers, and a position on the board must be vacant. The selected Bureaucrat will be contacted by the Editorial Board itself to gauge their interest, while the Editor-in-Chief and Executive Policymakers have final approval.
