After dealing with Team Rocket and learning of the identity of the mysterious man who gave them Smoochum, Ash and the gang learned where Brad was and went there to give Smoochum back to him. He wanted Brad to have a tough Pokémon, such as {{p|Charizard}} or {{p|Houndoom}}. However, Brad explained that he could never abandon Smoochum, because it was because of her that he was able to get as far as he did in stardom.
