Ash and his Greninja have perfected the transformation

Bond Phenomenon (Japanese: キズナ現象) is a transformation similar to Mega Evolution that first appeared in A Festival of Decisions!, and was first named in Kalos League Passion with a Certain Flare!. It is said to have some connection to the Pokémon's hidden potential. So far, the only known Pokémon to have this transformation is Greninja.

Unlike Mega Evolution or Primal Reversion, the transformation doesn't require any specific items for either the Trainer or the Pokémon. Instead, Bond Phenomenon may be achieved when the trust between the Trainer and the Pokémon reaches maximum, but not all Pokémon can obtain it. In the anime, while a Pokémon and Trainer are using this form, the Trainer shares the Pokémon's pain in the same place the Pokémon was dealt damage. The Trainer can also share the Pokémon's point of view. If the form isn't mastered, the Trainer and Pokémon can pass out from using this form.

Portrayal of a Greninja in the past from the Ninja Village, who also achieved the transformation

Greninja's Bond Phenomenon also appears in Pokémon Shuffle, Pokémon Picross, Pokémon Tretta, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It is planned to appear in the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Moon, achieved by a Greninja from the demo version who uniquely has the ability Battle Bond.
