Blaziken (Japanese: バシャーモ Bursyamo) is a dual-type Fire/Fighting Pokémon.

It evolves from Combusken starting at level 36. It is the final form of Torchic.

Biology

Physiology

Blaziken appears as if it's wearing a sleeveless jacket on its torso. It has a crest on its head with two points, which resembles a letter "V". It also has long hair behind its head and a small face almost completely covered in feathers. Its strong, muscular legs help it jump up a skyscraper with one kick and with ease. Lastly, it has three fingers on each hand, with what appears to be wristband-like markings on its wrists. These ignite when Blaziken is threatened. Blaziken's hands also resemble the feet of a normal chicken.

Gender differences

A female has shorter "hair" than a male. The V-shape on a female's "mask" is also smaller.

Special abilities

It can leap over a skyscraper with a single jump. It can make flames spout from its wrists and ankles, cloaking its feet or fists. It may also launch a fiery kick at the opponent.

Blaziken in the anime

Blaziken was first seen in Pop Goes The Sneasel. Harrison used it to defeat the Sneasel that was blocking access to the flame of Ho-Oh. Harrison later used Blaziken in a climatic battle with Ash's Charizard.

Blaziken was also seen in Destiny Deoxys under the ownership of Rafe.

In Once More with Reeling, May's Combusken evolved into a Blaziken. She brought it with her to Johto, and it was one of the Pokémon she used when she returned in A Full Course Tag Battle!.

Trivia

Origin

Blaziken is probably based on a cockfighting chicken. It also bears resemblance to Horus, an Ancient Egyptian deity with a hawk's head. Blaziken may also be based on the basan, a fire-breathing chicken.

Name origin

Blaziken's name is a combination of blaze and chicken. Its Japanese name is likely a combination of burst or burn and 軍鶏 shamo, a breed of Japanese chicken once raised for fighting.

In other languages

  • German: Lohgock
  • French: Brasegali - From brazier (blaze) and galliforme, the order of birds that contains chickens.
  • Korean: 번치코 Beonchiko
