*This card was released as a promotional card with different artwork, also by Ken Sugimori. In Japan, it was available through the "Please Trade" Campaign that ran from February to July in 1998. This variant card was never released in English.
This card was released in the {{TCG|Base Set}} with an illustration by [[Ken Sugimori]], first originating from the Japanese {{TCG|Expansion Pack}}. A print of this card was included in the {{TCG|Trainer Deck B}} with an exclusive red border and "Trainer Deck B" printed on the back of the card, distributed to prototype {{TCG|Pokémon League}}s before the {{Trading Card Game}} officially launched in North America. In Japan, this card was reprinted as a promotional card with different artwork by the same artist. It was first available through the "Trade Please" campaign that ran from February 10th to July 31st in 1998. A flyer included with the ''[[Let's Trade Please (CD)|Trade Please]]'' album by [[Suzukisan]] had to be mailed to MediaFactory along with any two Pokémon trading cards within the campaign period. The {{TCG ID|Please Trade|Please Trade|promo}} promotional card, as well as either this card, {{TCG ID|Base Set|Venusaur|15}}, or {{TCG ID|Base Set|Charizard|4}} would then be sent back, completing the trade. This card was released in the Base Set with an illustration by Ken Sugimori, first originating from the Japanese Expansion Pack. A print of this card was included in the Trainer Deck B with an exclusive red border and "Trainer Deck B" printed on the back of the card, distributed to prototype Pokémon Leagues before the TCG officially launched in North America. In Japan, this card was reprinted as a promotional card with different artwork by the same artist. It was first available through the "Trade Please" campaign that ran from February 10th to July 31st in 1998. The Please Trade promotional card, as well as either this card, Venusaur, or Charizard would then be sent back, completing the trade. Rain Dance and Hydro Pump are both moves in the Pokémon games that Blastoise can learn, though Rain Dance did not become an actual attack until Generation II. This card's English Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Pokémon Red and Green.
