Synopsis

Dent and Iris are having a battle in the forest to get Kibago adjusted to battling. Ash, who is observing the battle from the side lines, questions why he wasn't the one getting to battle. Iris claims he would be too hard on Kibago, and commands Kibago to use Scratch who then slowly trots over to Yanappu. Before Kibago could reach Yanappu, Dent has Yanappu perform an extremely gentle Bullet Seed which proves too much for Kibago who starts to cry. Iris runs over to console Kibago when Ash claims that battles are more productive when a full effort is put in. Dent tells Ash that as one of Kibago's first battles they let Iris decide how it should be executed, which Ash accepts.

With Kibago feeling better, they try again with another Scratch attach when Yanappu blocks it by grabbing the fin on Kibago's head and charges for a SolarBeam. Panicked, Ash asks if Kibago knows any other moves it could use to counter. Iris claims it has one other move but while contemplating on whether or not to use it, Yanappu unleashes the SolarBeam which is tiny in size and power and merely knocks Kibago over. Ash instructs that Kibago use other moves in order to practice and Iris should be more serious in battle. Frustrated, Iris orders Kibago to use Dragon Rage which causes a large crater in the ground and covers everyone in soot.

Meanwhile, in an abandoned building, Team Rocket receives orders to travel to the Resort Desert and meet up with another Team Rocket agent to investigate a meteor fragment that is located there.

Taking a break, Iris glumly explains that Kibago hasn't mastered Dragon Rage yet. Ash and Dent joke that it was more like a "sneeze" than a "rage", which only offends Iris. Iris explains that Kibago's attack has always been this way and she was hoping taking things slowly would gradually improve its performance. Ash then offers to let him battle against her next time which Iris sharply denies. He then asks how she even got Kibago in the first place. She then explains that it was given to her by the old matriarch from her hometown, which specialized in Dragon-type Pokémon. There, it is a traditional rite of passage for a young trainer to raise a Dragon-Type Pokémon and to go on a journey to grow as their Pokémon does. Iris then realizes that Kibago has disappeared, when it has gone to gather fruit. Pikachu has followed behind when Kibago decides to get some fruit that are just out of its reach and falls in some bushes below. The ground suddenly rises from underneath Kibago revealing that it is stuck between the horns of an angry Pendra who had been napping.

Pikachu hurriedly attacks Pendra with Iron Tail. Enraged, the Pendra charges about trying to shake the dragon Pokémon out of its horns while Pikachu runs back to where Ash and the others are. Kibago unleashes a Dragon Rage trying to free itself, only to further upset the Pendra.

Pendra then appears before Ash, Dent, and Iris, and begins chasing the group firing globs of toxins that eats through the nearby foliage. Ash and Dent attempt to use Yanappu and Tsutarja to release Kibago only to realize they underestimated the Pendra as it defeats Tsutarja. Iris then decides to use one of her own Pokémon only to hesitate the thought for a second. She reconsiders after Ash tells her to hurry up and hurls the Poké Ball into the air releasing a curled up Pokémon. Ash then scans the Pokémon revealing that it's a Doryuzu.

Iris begs the stationary Doryuzu to help Kibago. After not receiving any kind of a response, she decides to help Kibago herself. Ash has Pikachu and Pokabu weaken the Pendra giving Dent's Yanappu time to charge a SolarBeam to stop the Pendra in its tracks. From above, Iris then swings on a vine over its head, grabbing Kibago's leg and pulling it to safety. The celebration of Kibago's rescue is short-lived, however, as Pendra then turns to Iris ready to attack, when it accidentally knocks Doryuzu into a boulder. Agitated, Doryuzu burrows underground and comes up hitting Pendra in the face. Pendra fires toxins at Doryuzu who simply slaps it away, Dent noting that being part Steel-type, Doryuzu isn't affected by Poison-type attacks. Doryuzu then uses Drill Liner before tossing Pendra across the forest as it charges a counter-attack. Doryuzu celebrates the victory as Iris thanks it for helping, which it scoffs at as it returns to its remote drill-like state.

Dent then encourages Iris to move at her own pace with both Kibago and Doryuzu, when Ash offers to help train Kibago. Iris again refuses, telling Ash that if he wants to battle so badly to battle Pikachu himself. Ash excitedly agrees and the two take their places to start battling. Dent comments that the pair are a truly unique coupling while Iris is awestruck that they took her seriously. Pikachu starts shocking Ash, lighting up the forest with powerful shocks of electricity from continued Thunderbolts and Volt Tackles.
