Ash's Noibat (Japanese: サトシのオンバット Satoshi's Onbat) is the fifth Pokémon that Ash caught in the Kalos region.

History

Noibat's Egg

In XY076, Noibat was in its Egg when it was first found by Hawlucha, who was doing training exercises. The Wrestling Pokémon brought the Egg back to Ash and his friends, where it was about to hatch. In response, Ash, Pikachu, Fletchinder, Hawlucha, Bonnie, Dedenne, Pancham and Chespin covered the Egg to keep it warm whilst it hatched, with Fletchinder using its Flame Body Ability to help.

When it hatched, Noibat first saw and was introduced to Ash and his Pokémon, but Noibat was very stressed out, so it let out a powerful Supersonic attack, which hurt everyone's ears, however it was eventually calmed down by Ash. Afterwards, Serena scanned Noibat with her Pokédex and found out that Noibat liked fruit. Dedenne found an apple and gave it to Noibat, who scanned it with its ultrasonic waves but ended up not liking it, and Bonnie tasted it but she didn't like the taste either. After this, all of the Pokémon pitched in and found apples and Noibat scanned them with its ultrasonic waves but didn't like any of them; it then scanned the two apples which Bonnie held and it liked them so it and Bonnie had one each. Noibat then attempted to fly, but failed and hurt itself and launched a powerful Supersonic scream until it was calmed down again by Ash. After Noibat tried and failed to fly once more, Ash went onto an open area to try and teach it to fly, receiving help from Fletchinder and Hawlucha. It trailed the Ember Pokémon in flying, but it fell down and was caught by Ash before it hit the ground. It then made a running start, as advised by Hawlucha, and then took flight again. Although it did well, it couldn't succeed in successfully flying and was caught by Hawlucha before it hit the ground after Pancham and Chespin failed to catch it. Despite its improvements, Noibat was upset at failing to fly. Hawlucha then had the idea to go to a hilly area, which was windy and there was more room to fly. Whilst training with Hawlucha and Fletchinder, Team Rocket fired a net at Noibat, who was captured along with Hawlucha, who tried to protect it, as Team Rocket wanted to evolve Noibat into a Noivern. Fletchinder tried to rescue them, but failed when Inkay used Ink Spray.

They were then tied up to a tree. Noibat tried to use Supersonic on them, but failed due to Team Rocket's soundproof earphones. Hawlucha cut the rope using its nails and tried to sneak away, but was spotted by Team Rocket. After Hawlucha attacked Inkay with High Jump Kick, it ran away while carrying Noibat and was successfully able to fend off Inkay and Pumpkaboo by kicking Inkay into Pumpkaboo. Noibat spotted a cave and it and told Hawlucha to hide in there. It was pitch black in the cave, and when Jessie, James and Meowth tried to capture them and lure them into a trap set by Inkay and Pumpkaboo, Noibat used its ultrasound waves to stop the trio and had Hawlucha kick off their soundproof headphones, which allowed Noibat to use Supersonic, causing the trio to flee. After they were defeated by Frogadier and Pikachu, they left the cave. Afterwards, it accepted Ash's offer to go with him and Noibat was captured in a Poké Ball. It was then let out and it trained to fly with Hawlucha and Fletchinder again.

Personality and characteristics

After hatching, it quickly developed a strong bond with Ash, presumably because it is who Noibat first saw. It was also impressed by Hawlucha's abilities in its debut. As a newborn Pokémon it struggled to fly and was upset when it failed. When stressed or upset it lets out a powerful Supersonic attack. Like all Noibat, it has an affinity toward fruit, but can be a picky eater and refused to eat apples which it thought were bad.

Noibat has the ability to use ultrasonic waves, which it first used in XY076 to tell if a fruit was bad or good and it later used these to spot Team Rocket in pitch darkness.

• Noibat's capture was first teased in the poster for PK27.
• Noibat is the first hatched Pokémon whose Egg was not already in the possession of the Trainer that caught it.
• Noibat is Ash's only Kalos region Pokémon that takes neutral damage to Electric-type moves.
