Congratulations, you are now the Indigo League Champion! Your new title grants you access to an area that was previously off-limits, due to the large number of powerful wild Pokémon, known as Cerulean Cave. It is here that the Mewtwo fled to after destroying the research facility it was being kept in on Cinnabar Island.

As Champion, you can now access Cerulean Cave, which was previously off-limits because of the powerful Pokémon inside. This is where Mewtwo fled after destroying the research facility on Cinnabar Island.

This is a treacherous cave, with not only powerful Pokémon, but a wide variety of species as well. Stock up on Poké Balls and grab your Fishing. You'll need a team that Surf, and withdraw that Master Ball from the PC. Mewtwo is one tough fighter, even harder to catch than the legendary birds, so if you used it already, you're in for a long battle. When you're ready, head north to 24, surf south on the water near the bridge, and enter the cave on the south shore.

This is a treacherous, sprawling cave, so make sure that you are well-prepared. Stock up on Ultras and bring the I along, too. Bring a Pokémon that can use Surf, and pack that Master if you still have it. Mewtwo is one tough fighter, even harder to catch than the legendary birds, so you're in for a long battle if you've used it already. Head north to 24 and surf south along the river to reach the cave.

This cave is packed with powerful Pokémon. Some are rare species otherwise only found in the Kanto, while others are evolved forms of common Pokémon.

Not only is it the strongest Pokémon in the game, but when you find it, it's already at Lv 70. If you don't have the Master Ball, this is going to be even tougher than catching the legendary birds. Like with any legendary, SAVE THE GAME before approaching it; with only one shot, you don't want to mess this up. Most damage you inflict will probably be healed right away, since it can use Recover up to 10 times. His only real weakness is Bug moves, so a Pin Missile attack from a high-level Beedrill or Jolteon could prove useful, though his Psychic move can decimate the health of any non-Psychic. You may want to dispatch the legendary birds against him, since he is the only thing stronger than the trio. If you do have the Master Ball, than all you have to do is throw it right away; don't even bother battling with it. A good strategy to catch it without the Master Ball is to use Articuno's Ice Beam, Zapdos's Thunder Wave, or Moltres's Fire Spin, since each of these attacks can immobilize the creature temporarily. After all of that, make your way back to the exit (or use an Escape Rope to visit the most-recently used Pokémon Center).

As Champion, you can now access Cerulean Cave, which was previously off-limits because of the powerful Pokémon inside. This is where Mewtwo fled after destroying the research facility on Cinnabar Island.

Cerulean Cave

This is a treacherous, sprawling cave, so make sure that you are well-prepared. Stock up on Ultra Balls and bring the Super Rod along, too. Bring a Pokémon that can use Surf, and pack that Master Ball if you still have it. Mewtwo is one tough fighter, even harder to catch than the legendary birds, so you're in for a long battle if you've used it already. Head north to Route 24 and surf south along the river to reach the cave.
