Cinnabar Island

Cinnabar Island

The Pokémon Mansion in the northwest is abandoned, having been destroyed by a violent genetically-engineered Pokémon that broke free of its prison and escaped. Fortunately, the Pokémon Lab next to the Poké Center was spared, so the fossil revitalization experiment is still operational. This technological mecca is also home to the seventh Gym.

Pokémon Lab

POKéMON LAB
Meeting Room

In the Meeting Room, two of the three people are looking to trade. The old man will trade his Rhydon for your Golduck, and the woman offers her Dewgong for your Growlithe.

POKéMON LAB
R-and-D Room

In the R-and-D Room, one of the scientists will give you TM35 (Metronome), an attack that executes any known move. Imagine an Electabuzz using Fire Blast, or a Magmar using Hydro Pump!

POKéMON LAB
Testing Room

In the Testing Room, one scientist is willing to trade his Muk for a Kangaskhan.
The scientist with speech problems is the guy to talk to about reviving your fossils. Give him the Dome Fossil to get a Kabuto, or the Helix Fossil to receive an Omanyte. Both are Rock/Template:Type2s, and lived in the primordial ocean. Turning over the Old Amber results in the Rock/Template:Type2 Aerodactyl, king of the prehistoric skies.

If you hadn't noticed yet, the Cinnabar Gym is locked up tight, and without the Secret Key you won't be able to challenge Blaine. There's nothing else to do here now, so sneak into the deserted building behind the lab.

Pokémon Mansion

Buried somewhere in this run-down building is the key to the Cinnabar Gym.
Scattered throughout the building are the scientists' journal entries that give clues to the secret experiment that was conducted on the island, so don't forget to read up on the dangerous and mysterious Pokémon that is said to have been created here.

To find the key, go straight ahead from the entrance to the stairs. Check every statue you come across, the hidden switches inside alternate the electronic doors, opening some doors and closing others. Flip these switches as necessary to collect all the items.

2nd floor

Head to the northeast. Inspect the journal on the table, and collect the Calcium at the end of the hallway. Walk to the northwest room and take the stairs to the 3rd floor.

in the jungle.

3rd floor

Head to the east through the north door to get an Iron. Backtrack and flip the statue switch and enter the southern door. Battle the scientist, and jump off the smaller eastern ledge to reach the basement.

2nd floor

Head north and then west; to the south is a second journal entry. Take the stairs in the center of the floor back up to the 3rd floor.

3rd floor

This area of 3F has a Burglar, a third journal entry, a Max Potion in the southwest corner, and a hidden Max Revive.

Take the stairs back down to the 2nd floor, flip the switch, and take the northwest stairs again.

3rd floor

Head towards the scientist to the southeast, flip the nearby switch, and drop off the wider western ledge to reach 1F.

1st floor

Battle the scientist, pick up the Carbos, and take the stairs down to the basement.

B1F

Step inside the closest room for the last journal entry, a Trainer battle, and TM14 (Blizzard). Go all the way to the western wall for a Full Restore, and head back towards the stairs. Flip the switch to get into the narrow hallway and battle the last scientist. Follow the path around to the left, and flip the one last switch. Pick up the Rare Candy, TM22 (SolarBeam), and the Secret Key in the final room. Now that you've got the key, use an Escape Rope or dig your way to the exit.

Diary; Sept. 1
MEWTWO is far too
powerful.
We have failed to
curb its vicious
tendencies...

Cinnabar Gym

CINNABAR GYM
LEADER: BLAINE
The Hot-Headed
Quiz Master!

Blaine specializes in Template:Type2s, so bring a team of Water- or Template:Type2s. Your monsters may get burned in this red-hot gym, so bring along some Burn Heals. It's possible to avoid all seven junior Trainer battles by checking each area's quiz machine and answering the question correctly - but you miss out on the cash and experience, too.

After defeating Blaine, he gives you the Volcano Badge and TM38 (Fire Blast). The badge also heightens your Pokémon's Special stat. With the seventh Gym defeated, your business on the island is done, so heal up and surf off the dock towards Pallet Town in the north.

Route 21

There are no items on this ocean route, and only 9 Trainers.

Now that you've traveled almost every route in Kanto, let's tie up some loose ends.
First off, fly to Cerulean City.
