This trick cannot be used to find the 'weaker' Pokémon, such as a Larvitar found inside Mt. Silver.

Usage
It cannot work when fishing.
This trick can be particularly useful if the player wants to find a rare Pokémon that is more powerful than the others.

It can also be very useful in Safari Zones, where the player cannot battle with the wild Pokémon and specialy in the Johto Safari Zone, where the player can find many powerful Pokémon after meeting some criteria.
It cannot work when using Sweet Scent or Honey for Pokémon found by triggering a Horde Encounter

Problems
It can also be particularly difficult to find a Pokémon at a specific level to do the trick.
This trick can be very useful, however, it can be very difficult to get a Pokémon at the specific level required.

The Repel trick is one that allows the player to find the highest-leveled Pokémon in an area. To perform it, the player needs several Repels and a Pokémon at a specific level. This trick works in all Generations.

How to use

To perform the trick, the player simply needs any type of Repel and a Pokémon at a specific level, (which is weaker than or the same as the target wild Pokémon level). The player needs to know the higher possible level for the Pokémon, thus it would be ideal if he or she had a list of the Pokémon in the area.

This trick is possible because the Repel prevents "weak" wild Pokémon from appearing. In this case, "weak" means a Pokémon at a lower level than the first Pokémon in the Party. This means that if the player has a Pokémon weaker than a particular wild Pokémon, that Pokémon continues to appear whilst the weaker Pokémon will stop appearing.

This trick can be useful for finding a specific Pokémon in an area. It can also be used with Pokémon Luring Methods, such as the use of a White Flute and the Pokémon March broadcast to increase the probability of finding a Pokémon.

This trick is also useful for catching roaming Pokémon, as they are almost always a higher level than all other Pokémon that appear in that area. It is also effective in Nuzlocke Challenges to attempt to make the first encounter a Pokémon of a certain kind that only appears at a certain level.

In this case, if the player wants to find the most powerful Pokémon possible (a Baltoy in Ruby or Sapphire and a Cacnea in Emerald) he or she simply has to put a Level 22 Pokémon in the front of the party and use a Repel.

Another common example is the Trophy Garden.
One can use the Repel Trick with level 18 Pokémon with Compoundeyes to have higher chances of finding Chansey holding a Lucky Egg or Pikachu holding a Light Ball. This trick, however, works only in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as levels of common Pokémon in Pokémon Platinum are higher.

In Platinum, a player could use a level 24 Pokémon and only find Pikachu and Staravia.

A colored background means that the Pokémon can be found in this location in the specified game. A white background with a colored letter means that the Pokémon cannot be found here.

A specific example is Kalos Route 12.
One can use the Repel Trick with level 27 Pokémon to find only Tauros and Miltank in the grass. If the player wanted to only encounter Miltank, a player could instead use a male, level 27 Pokémon with Cute Charm. Since Tauros cannot be female, only Miltank will appear.

Limitations

This trick cannot be used to find the 'weaker' Pokémon, such as a Larvitar found inside Mt. Silver.

It cannot work when fishing.

It cannot work when using Sweet Scent or Honey for Pokémon found by triggering a Horde Encounter

It can also be particularly difficult to find a Pokémon at a specific level to do the trick.
