11 features several large patches of tall grass that separate Vermilion City from 12. To the northeast is Lavender Town, but a sleeping Snorlax blocks the east end of the route, so you'll need to find another way to get there. Inside the gate, one of Oak's aides will reward you for catching at least 30 different species with the Itemfinder, which detects any hidden items nearby. Not far from the aide is a kid who is hoping to trade his Nidorina for a Nidorino. This trade is more beneficial to Red players, as Nidorino is more common in Red than Blue, while the opposite is true for Nidorina.

After pulling the plug on Lt. Surge, your next destination is Lavender Town. The quickest way is to go east through 11 and then north through 12, but a sleeping Snorlax is blocking the road.  Visiting the gate is still a good idea, since one of Oak's aides will give you the Itemfinder for catching at least 30 different Pokémon.  Check the lone shrub near the gate to find an Escape Rope.  The last point of interest is a kid on the gate's second floor who will trade his Nidorina for your Nidorino.
Diglett's Cave
With Route 11 blocked, you have to take the long way around to Lavender Town.  Walk back towards Vermilion and take a detour through Diglett's Cave.  Like the name says, this is the only home of Diglett and Dugtrio.  Since Flyings are immune to Ground attacks, this is a great time to give your Pidgey, Spearow, or Zubat some experience.  This underground tunnel connects to 2, emerging between Viridian Forest and Pewter City.
Diglett's Cave is a long tunnel that spans nearly the whole region, linking 11 to the east side of 2. Like the name implies, the only Pokémon that can be found here are Diglett and Dugtrio.

The guy inside the only house here is looking for an Abra. If you've got one to spare from 24, you can swap it here for a Mr. Mime, a rare Psychic. Leave the house and cut down the nearby tree to continue south.  Inside the gate, you'll find another of Professor Oak's aides; this one will give you 05 if you've caught 10 different species. That shouldn't be any problem, since you needed 30 kinds to get the Itemfinder.  Pick up the Vitamin and the Moon Stone further south, and stop back in Viridian City.  Cut down the tree near the pond to get 42, then hike back to Pewter City.

Now that you have HM01, you can cut down the tree in the northeast part of the city to enter the museum's laboratory. Talk to the scientist standing next to the pedestal to receive the Old Amber. Take this to Cinnabar Island to regenerate an ancient Aerodactyl from the DNA trapped inside.

Cerulean City
Your next stop on the way to Lavender Town is 9. Either travel east from Pewter City again, or return to Vermilion City and head north. In Cerulean, pass through the burgled home and chop down the tree on the east side of town to continue.
Pass through the burgled home again, but this time head to the east. Cut down the tree to get past, and prepare your team to battle the nine Trainers waiting here.

Revision as of 02:32, 17 August 2016

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Red and Blue.
These pages follow the original Game Boy iteration, not FireRed and LeafGreen. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 11

Route 11

Route 11 features several large patches of tall grass that separate Vermilion City from Route 12.

Diglett's Cave

Diglett's Cave

Diglett's Cave is a long tunnel that spans nearly the whole region, linking Route 11 to the east side of Route 2. Like the name implies, the only Pokémon that can be found here are Diglett and Dugtrio.

Route 2

The east side of Route 2 was inaccessible when you first passed through here. Inside the house is a guy looking to swap an Abra for his Mr. Mime, a rare Psychic-type Pokémon. Chop down the tree to reach the gate, where another one of Oak's aides is waiting. This assistant will reward you for catching 10 different species with HM05 (Flash). Further south are two items, a HP Up and a Moon Stone.

From here, you may want to revisit Viridian City to get TM42 (Dream Eater) from the man near the pond.

Viridian City

Return to Viridian City, cut down the tree in the southwestern part and talk to the sleeping male to receive TM42 (Dream Eater).

Pewter City

Pewter Museum of Science

Now that you have HM01, you can cut down the tree in the northeast part of the city to enter the museum's laboratory. Talk to the scientist standing next to the pedestal to receive the Old Amber. Take this to Cinnabar Island to regenerate an ancient Aerodactyl from the DNA trapped inside.

Your next stop on the way to Lavender Town is Route 9. Either travel east from Pewter City again, or return to Vermilion City and head north. In Cerulean, pass through the burgled home and chop down the tree on the east side of town to continue.

There are nine Trainers scattered across the route, so take care. As you approach Route 10, you find yourself near a river.

Route 10

To the south is a convenient Pokémon Center, the last outpost of civilization before venturing into Rock Tunnel. This dark, winding tunnel emerges on the south side of Route 10, just outside of Lavender Town.
