<!---->

11 features several large patches of tall grass that separate Vermilion City from 12. To the northeast is Lavender Town, but a sleeping Snorlax blocks the east end of the route, so you'll need to find another way to get there. Inside the gate, one of Oak's aides will reward you for catching at least 30 different species with the Itemfinder, which detects any hidden items nearby. Not far from the aide is a kid who is hoping to trade his Nidorina for a Nidorino. This trade is more beneficial to Red players, as Nidorino is more common in Red than Blue, while the opposite is true for Nidorina.

The east side of 2 was inaccessible when you first passed through here. Inside the house is a guy looking to swap an Abra for his Mr. Mime, a rare Psychic Pokémon. Chop down the tree to reach the gate, where another one of Oak's aides is waiting. This assistant will reward you for catching 10 different species with 05. Further south are two items, a Vitamin and a Moon Stone.

From here, you may want to revisit Viridian City to get 42 from the man near the pond.

Now that you have HM01, you can cut down the tree in the northeast part of the city to enter the museum's laboratory. Talk to the scientist standing next to the pedestal to receive the Old Amber. Take this to Cinnabar Island to regenerate an ancient Aerodactyl from the DNA trapped inside.

Your next stop on the way to Lavender Town is 9. Either travel east from Pewter City again, or return to Vermilion City and head north. In Cerulean, pass through the burgled home and chop down the tree on the east side of town to continue.

Route 11

Route 11

Route 11 features several large patches of tall grass that separate Vermilion City from Route 12.

Diglett's Cave

Diglett's Cave

Diglett's Cave is a long tunnel that spans nearly the whole region, linking Route 11 to the east side of Route 2. Like the name implies, the only Pokémon that can be found here are Diglett and Dugtrio.

Route 2

The east side of Route 2 was inaccessible when you first passed through here. Inside the house is a guy looking to swap an Abra for his Mr. Mime, a rare Psychic-type Pokémon. Chop down the tree to reach the gate, where another one of Oak's aides is waiting. This assistant will reward you for catching 10 different species with HM05 (Flash). Further south are two items, a HP Up and a Moon Stone.

From here, you may want to revisit Viridian City to get TM42 (Dream Eater) from the man near the pond.

Pewter City

Now that you have HM01, you can cut down the tree in the northeast part of the city to enter the museum's laboratory. Talk to the scientist standing next to the pedestal to receive the Old Amber. Take this to Cinnabar Island to regenerate an ancient Aerodactyl from the DNA trapped inside.

Your next stop on the way to Lavender Town is Route 9. Either travel east from Pewter City again, or return to Vermilion City and head north. In Cerulean, pass through the burgled home and chop down the tree on the east side of town to continue.

Route 9

Route 9

There are nine Trainers scattered across the route, so take care. As you approach Route 10, you find yourself near a river.

Route 10 (north)

Route 10

To the south is a convenient Pokémon Center, the last outpost of civilization before venturing into Rock Tunnel. This dark, winding tunnel emerges on the south side of Route 10, just outside of Lavender Town.
