The guide for those can be found here.
Viridian Forest
Follow the trail to the northwest to get a free item, a Poké Ball lying in the tall grass. Go back to your starting point, and this time follow the path to the right. The first person you see won't have anything interesting to say, but the next person certainly will - he's your first non-rival Trainer battle!
Continue north along the path and you'll encounter a second Bug Catcher. After that battle, grab the nearby Antidote, and turn left into the tall grass. Work your way through the grassy maze until you see a signpost. Here, you'll want to head to the right to grab a Potion, and then back past the sign towards the tall grass. After one last Trainer battle, you'll be at the northern edge of the forest. Leave the gate and you'll be on Route 2.

Route 2
Without HM01, there is little of interest on the north side of Route 2. Walk past the single patch of grass to reach Pewter City, home of the Pewter Gym, and your first badge.
Pewter City
First thing's first, make sure to visit the Poké Center to heal up from the trek through the forest. The two houses here don't hold anything important, but the Poké Mart does! This is the first city to sell Potions, so make sure to buy a few for the upcoming Gym battle. A kid on the city's east side is blocking the road, and will drag you to the Gym if you try to leave.
Pewter Museum of Science
The Pewter Museum of Science is located on the north side of the city. It hosts a wide range of artifacts and exhibits, with a focus on fossil excavation and space exploration. Admission to the main building is $50 for a child's ticket. The second smaller building is closed to the public, but if you return with HM01 and cut down the tree, the lead scientist inside will give you the Old Amber. If you take the tree sap to Cinnabar Island, then the scientists there can resurrect an ancient Aerodactyl.

POKéMON GYM
LEADER: BROCK
The Rock Solid
POKéMON Trainer!
The Pewter Gym focuses on the Rock-type, so Trainers that chose Bulbasaur or Squirtle will be in good shape. Charmander may have some trouble here, since Fire-types can't do much damage against Rock-types. Luckily, none of the Pokémon inside have learned any Rock moves yet. Bring a few Potions, and enter the first Gym.
Brock's Geodude isn't very difficult to take down, but watch out for his Onix. If it uses its Bide move, don't damage it! Use the two turns to lower its stats, because any damage you do to it while it is storing energy will be thrown back at you for exactly twice as much!

Congratulations on winning your first badge! The Boulder Badge gives a slight Attack boost when in battle, and also allows the use of Flash outside of battle (even though you don't have HM05 yet). Brock also gives you TM34 (Bide) as a prize.
With the first Gym behind you, your next destination is Cerulean City to the east. Stock up on Poké Balls and Potions, then set out for Route 3.
