-----
Cianwood City is a small, isolated settlement on the coast of a large island. Despite its distance from the mainland, the area still attracts Trainers aiming to challenge the Cianwood Gym or visit the Cianwood City known for its unique medicine. In addition, Cliff Edge Gate leads up onto the jagged cliffs to the west, where the new Safari Zone is located. The rocks that wash up on the northern beach can be Rock Smash to reveal hidden Pokémon and items.

Pick up the SecretPotion
Your first stop in Cianwood is the 500-year-old Cianwood City. Upon hearing of the lighthouse Pokémon's illness, the pharmacist gives you the List of key items in Generation IV, a powerful medicine that should heal Amphy of its sickness. After dispensing the SecretPotion, the pharmacist offers traditional medicine for sale.
Cianwood Pharmacy
The Cianwood City has served as the local Poké Mart for the last 500 years. Inform the pharmacist of the situation at the lighthouse to receive the IV, a powerful remedy that should restore Amphy's health. After dispensing the SecretPotion, the pharmacist offers traditional medicine for sale.

The Photographer's House
Cameron's House
The house in the northeast belongs to Cameron, a photographer who will periodically appear in many locations across Johto and Kanto. When encountered, he will take pictures of Cameron (Johto) against the surrounding area. After certain requirements have been met, he will also take your picture with individual Cameron (Johto). These pictures are recorded in the Photo Album, which stores up to 36 images on the PC. Outside, he has an automatic camera set up for visitors to take their own pictures with their party.
The Photographer's house is on the north side of the city. There's an automatic camera set up just outside; you can examine it to snap a photo with the ocean as a scenic backdrop. Pose together with your Pokémon and preserve the memories of your adventure!

Save the Shuckle!
Kirk's House
Cianwood may be isolated, but it is not without its share of crime. The house to the south of the Gym belongs to a PokéManiac named Kirk. He was bullied by Silver into giving up his prized Sneasel. Worried that the thief may return, he asks you to take his Shuckle, Shuckie, for safekeeping. Despite having the highest Defense and Special Defense of any Pokémon, Shuckle's low HP prevents it from withstanding much damage. After enough time has passed, he will ask for Shuckie to be returned. If you agree, he will let you keep it if its friendship is high; otherwise, he takes it back. Before accepting it back, he asks that you take the Drink it is holding.

Visit the house to the south of the Gym. The guy inside was bullied into giving his prized Sneasel to a kid with piercing eyes and long hair, and he's afraid that the thief may come back. He gives you his Shuckle for safekeeping (as long as you have an empty slot in your party). While not worth much on offense, Shuckle more than makes up for it with its strong defense.
Cliff Edge Gate
North of the city is a cave hewn into the cliffs. This is Cliff Edge Gate, a cavern that leads to Routes 47 and 48. The new Johto lies farther west, beyond Route 48. Construction is not yet finished, so no one is permitted to pass through right now.

The North Ledge
On the north side of the beach is a small ledge at the foot of the cliffs. When you approach, Suicune takes off. It races around the beach before stopping to examine your character again, then runs off across the water. Eusine shows up shortly after, and challenges you to a battle in order to earn Suicune's respect. Use Ghost- or Dark moves against his Drowzee and Haunter, and Ground attacks to deal with his Electrode.

Road to the Safari Zone
{| style="margin: auto;"

|
North of the city is a cave hewn into the cliffs.  Inside is the Cliff Edge Gate, a sort of checkpoint that leads to the two new routes in Johto, 47 and 48.  The Safari Zone isn't quite finished, but it should be operational soon.  Baoba will call you shortly to inform you that it's up and running.

The Crystal Beast Returns
Walk to the north edge of the city, towards the lone house by the cliffs.  There, you'll see Suicune again, after it bolted from the Burned Tower in Ecruteak.  It's still not sure about you, and runs off across the ocean as soon as you get too close.  Eusine shows up soon after, and challenges you to a battle in order to prove himself to Suicune.

Counter his Drowzee with Bug-, Ghost-, or Dark Pokémon, and his Electrode with Ground Pokémon.  Against his Haunter, your best bet will be Psychic-, Ghost-, or Dark-type Pokémon.
Eusine says that he is starting to understand why Suicune is keeping its eye on you, then leaves to continue his pursuit of the beast.

The Cianwood Gym has been redesigned since the days of . This time around, there are no boulders to shove out of the way in order to reach Chuck.  In fact, the Gym Leader is the first Trainer you'll see when you enter the Gym, however, he is meditating under the cascading water, so he won't notice you until cut off the flow of the waterfall.  In order to stop the water, you need to climb to the top of the Gym's left side, and press the red button on the machinery; this causes the chute to pull backward, stopping the water's flow. With his meditation interrupted, Chuck will finally realize that you're here to battle!
The Cianwood Gym trains Fighting Pokémon, so Flying- and Psychic attacks will have the greatest impact. Normal-, Ice-, Rock-, Dark-, and Steel Pokémon all take serious damage from Fighting attacks. The Gym Leader, Chuck, can be found not far from the entrance, meditating under the relentless waterfall. But with all the noise, he cannot hear your request for a battle. Climb the left side of the Gym to fight the second Black Belt, Nob. When he sees you, he moves to the left of the highest stairway. Climb the right side and cross the bridge to push the red button. This retracts the winch, stopping the water flow.

The Cianwood Gym only allows Fightings to train here, so Psychic- and Flying moves will be the most effective.  Avoid using Pokémon of the Normal- or Ices, for example, since they're vulnerable to Fighting-type attacks. While Ghosts have full immunity here, a higher-level Kadabra or Pidgeotto will strike terror into the Gym's macho Pokémon.  Don't get overconfident, though, because Flying-types are especially vulnerable to his Primeape's Rock Slide attack.
Both of Chuck's Pokémon know Focus Punch, a powerful move that forces the user to first spend a turn tightening its focus. If attacked during that turn, the user loses its focus and the attack fails. Primeape can retaliate against Flying Pokémon with Rock Slide, and Poliwrath can lull its opponent to sleep with Hypnosis. Both have moves that put Quilava at a disadvantage, while Croconaw loses the use of its Water moves against Poliwrath, thanks to its Water Absorb Ability. This is one of the few Gyms where Bayleef has an advantage.

After his defeat, Chuck awards you the Storm.  This badge commands obedience from Pokémon up to level 70, and also lets you fly from town to town, after finding 02.  Chuck's parting gift is 01, a powerful move that goes last, but may miss if your Pokémon is hit before it launches its attack.
Fly Like A Bird
With your shiny new Storm Badge in hand, speak to the woman in front of the Gym.  The woman (who happens to be Chuck's wife) is so impressed that she gives you 02, and thanks you for giving her husband a reason to train.  With HM02, Trainers can fly to any familiar town instantly!

Now teach a Flying how to fly, and return to Olivine with Amphy's medicine.
Defeated, Chuck awards you the Storm, which enables the use of Fly in the field. He also hands over 01 as a prize.

Fly Like A Bird
Speak to the woman in front of the Gym. She happens to be Chuck's wife, and is so impressed with you for defeating him, that she hands over 02. Fly allows instant travel to any familiar town, a much easier way to revisit earlier locations than by traveling on foot.

Glitter Lighthouse
Return to the lighthouse and take the elevator directly to the Light Room. Deliver the IV to Jasmine, who then administers the medicine to Amphy. It shows off its full strength with a flash as it powers the lighthouse, and seeing it restored, Jasmine promises to return to her Gym.

Back in Olivine, head for the lighthouse and take the elevator to the top floor, and give the List of key items in Generation IV to Jasmine.  She administers it to Amphy, and seeing that it is happy and healed, promises to return to her Gym.
As you exit the lighthouse, you receive an important call from Baoba: the Johto is now open! It is now possible to travel through Cliff Edge Gate at any time to reach the park.

There are no special tricks at the Olivine Gym, where Gym Leader Jasmine specializes in Steel Pokémon.  Steel-types are great defensively, resisting attack from eleven different types. While Jasmine does have a few junior Trainers this time around, you've already defeated them inside the lighthouse, so you'll only battle Jasmine anyway.  Her Magnemite like to use moves that confuse and paralyze your Pokémon, and her Steelix can kick up a sandstorm that damages all but Rock-, Ground-, and Steels, so bring along plenty of recovery items. To dish out heavy damage, fight her with Fire-, Fighting-, or Ground moves.  Attacks like Flamethrower and Earthquake are a great help here.
Jasmine, the quiet Gym Leader of Olivine City, has only recruited two Trainers for her Gym. As they have both been fought already in the lighthouse, they merely express their gratitude to you for retrieving Amphy's medicine. Jasmine specializes in Steel Pokémon, which typically have high Defense and are immune to Poison attacks. All three of her Pokémon are vulnerable to Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground moves, while her Steelix also takes serious damage from Water moves. Her two Magnemite can paralyze and confuse their opponent; her Steelix can whip up a Sandstorm that damages all but Rock, Ground, and Steel Pokémon every turn. Steelix's Screech move lowers the target's Defense, allowing it to deal even more damage with Rock Throw and Iron Tail.

Defeated, Jasmine awards you the Mineral, which ensures obedience of all Pokémon up to level 70. She also hands over 23 as a prize.
Route 42
42 connects Ecruteak City to Mahogany Town in the east. Mt. Mortar is a large optional cave that contains many rare Pokémon and useful items, but the deepest level is inaccessible without 07. There is also another grove of Apricorn trees located between the two lakes.

After defeating her, Jasmine awards you the Mineral, which increases your party's defenses. <br>
West side
She also gives out 23, a testament to the power of the Steel.
Pick up 65 near the Ecruteak gate. As you near the western entrance to Mt. Mortar, a Hiker comes running outside and bumps into you. As an apology, he hands over 04, which allows a Pokémon to move certain boulders out of the way.

Now fly back to Ecruteak, and head east to 42.
Center area
The area between the two lakes is home to another Apricorn grove, in a forested area behind a small tree. Suicune is hiding here as well, and it pushes past you and runs off when you remove the tree. Eusine appears not long after, and reaffirms his dedication to meeting the beast before heading off as well. Grab the Potion and continue east to Mahogany Town.

Route 42
Mt. Mortar
Mt. Mortar is a tall mountain that looms over northern Johto. Inside is a large network of caves, and even a giant waterfall. The high chances of encountering its native wildlife can make getting lost very costly. Surf, Strength, Waterfall, and Rock Climb are required to fully explore the area. The Karate King from Saffron City is training on the lowest floor; venture inside with an empty party slot to receive Tyrogue of his prized Pokémon.

42 stretches across northeastern Johto, connecting Ecruteak City to Mahogany Town. The large cave here is optional, though it contains many rare items and Pokémon.  Surf east and cut down the small tree to reach the Apricorn grove on the central landmass, and another surprise encounter. Suicune fled here after you spotted it north of Cianwood, and it runs off again when you get too close.  Eusine shows up again, too, and speaks with you briefly before leaving. Surf east again, and trade phone numbers with Fisherman Tully - he'll call you for a rematch, and will occasionally call to give you a Water Stone.

West, East Entrances
Entrance
Both the west and east entrances lead behind the waterfall to the Lower Cave. A hidden Potion can be found near the west entrance.
Lower Cave
There are two items that can be obtained before exploring most of the Lower Cave. The ladder atop the stairway to the west leads to an Ether. The ladder atop the stairway to the east, near Poké Maniac Harrison, leads to a Revive.
Northwest of Poké Maniac Harrison is a boulder; move it aside to reach a hidden Repel and continue north. A dead-end to the west leads to an Ultra, and a Potion can be found among a group of stalagmites to the east. Turn east, then south to fight Super Nerd Markus and reach an Escape Rope. Climb the large stairway to the upper level on the room's east side. Collect the Valuable item to the north, then use Rock Climb to scale the nearest cliffside. Follow the path to the west side, scale the cliffs, then head south. Use Rock Climb once more to reach a Evolution-inducing held item, and a Vitamin hidden nearby. Return to the upper level on the east side, and scale the cliffs to the south. This leads to a Incense and a hidden Valuable item. Take the southeast doorway to the Entrance, then take the upper exit to reach the Evolution-inducing held item outside.
Center Entrance
Entrance
Climb down the ladder near the center entrance to the Basement.
Basement
Surf east to the southeast corner to reach a Potion. Swim northeast to get a Ether, then west for a Potion. There is a boulder farther to the west, but the narrow pathway prevents northward travel. Surf southward and pick up the Vitamin near the ladder. Cross the water to the southwest corner, and inspect the wall to find a hidden Ultra. Surf north for a Vitamin, then jump the ledge to the southeast and climb the ladder back to the Entrance.
Entrance
Surf north and use Waterfall to scale the cascade, and enter the doorway to the Upper Cave.
Upper Cave
Surf west to reach a Vitamin in the southwest corner. Head back east, past the platform with Super Nerd Hugh, and swim north across the nearest pool of water. Grab the Potion from the platform, and surf to the southeast corner. Head north across the next two pools, the second of which has a Potion hidden on its north shore. Go west, jump the ledge, and head west to the wall. Swim north across the water and jump the ledge to reach a platform with 40. Loop back around to the north, and continue eastward. Surf across another pool, and pick up the Escape Rope from the northeast platform. Cross the northeast pool, then jump the two north-central ledges to collect a Evolution-inducing held item. Jump the third ledge and go west for an Ether, then cross the northwest pool to the ladder.

Lower Cave
Navigate around the small platforms to get an Vitamin and a hidden Ether. Go east, then south for a In-battle effect item, then follow the platform to the southwest. Grab the Revive, and climb down the ladder.

Continue east on the way to Mahogany.
Basement
Walk down the nearest stairway and turn east. Check the lone rock for a hidden Revive, and take the large stairway down to the northeastern-most area. The Karate King of Saffron's Fighting Dojo is training here, and gladly accepts your challenge.

Revision as of 23:27, 12 June 2015

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
These pages follow the remade Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Gold and Silver. The guide for those games can be found here.

Cianwood City

Cianwood City

Cianwood City is a small, isolated settlement on the coast of a large island. Despite its distance from the mainland, the area still attracts Trainers aiming to challenge the Cianwood Gym or visit the centuries-old pharmacy known for its unique medicine. In addition, Cliff Edge Gate leads up onto the jagged cliffs to the west, where the new Safari Zone is located. The rocks that wash up on the northern beach can be cleared away to reveal hidden Pokémon and items.

Cianwood Pharmacy

The Cianwood City Pharmacy has served as the local Poké Mart for the last 500 years. Inform the pharmacist of the situation at the lighthouse to receive the SecretPotion, a powerful remedy that should restore Amphy's health. After dispensing the SecretPotion, the pharmacist offers traditional medicine for sale.

Cameron's House

The house in the northeast belongs to Cameron, a photographer who will periodically appear in many locations across Johto and Kanto. When encountered, he will take pictures of you and your party against the surrounding area. After certain requirements have been met, he will also take your picture with individual Gym Leaders and other notable figures. These pictures are recorded in the Photo Album, which stores up to 36 images on the PC. Outside, he has an automatic camera set up for visitors to take their own pictures with their party.

Kirk's House

Cianwood may be isolated, but it is not without its share of crime. The house to the south of the Gym belongs to a PokéManiac named Kirk. He was bullied by a kid with red hair into giving up his prized Sneasel. Before accepting it back, he asks that you take the Berry Juice it is holding.

Cliff Edge Gate

North of the city is a cave hewn into the cliffs. This is Cliff Edge Gate, a cavern that leads to Routes 47 and 48. The new Safari Zone lies farther west, beyond Route 48.

Use Ghost- or Dark-type moves against his Drowzee and Haunter, and Ground attacks to deal with his Electrode.

Eusine says that he is starting to understand why Suicune is keeping its eye on you, then leaves to continue his pursuit of the beast.

Cianwood Gym

Cianwood Gym

Cianwood City Pokémon Gym
Leader: Chuck

His Roaring Fists Do The Talking

The Cianwood Gym trains Fighting-type Pokémon, so Flying- and Psychic-type attacks will have the greatest impact. Normal-, Ice-, Rock-, Dark-, and Steel-type Pokémon all take serious damage from Fighting attacks.

Cianwood Gym
The Storm Badge

Defeated, Chuck awards you the Storm Badge, which enables the use of Fly in the field. He also hands over TM01 (Focus Punch) as a prize.

Fly Like A Bird

Speak to the woman in front of the Gym. She happens to be Chuck's wife, and is so impressed with you for defeating him, that she hands over HM02 (Fly). Fly allows instant travel to any familiar town, a much easier way to revisit earlier locations than by traveling on foot.

Olivine City

Glitter Lighthouse

Return to the lighthouse and take the elevator directly to the Light Room. Deliver the SecretPotion to Jasmine, who then administers the medicine to Amphy. It shows off its full strength with a flash as it powers the lighthouse, and seeing it restored, Jasmine promises to return to her Gym.

As you exit the lighthouse, you receive an important call from Baoba: the Safari Zone is now open! It is now possible to travel through Cliff Edge Gate at any time to reach the park.

Olivine Gym

Olivine Gym

Olivine City Pokémon Gym
Leader: Jasmine

The Steel-Clad Defense Girl

Jasmine, the quiet Gym Leader of Olivine City, has only recruited two Trainers for her Gym. As they have both been fought already in the lighthouse, they merely express their gratitude to you for retrieving Amphy's medicine. Jasmine specializes in Steel-type Pokémon, which typically have high Defense and are immune to Poison-type attacks. All three of her Pokémon are vulnerable to Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-type moves, while her Steelix also takes serious damage from Water moves.

Olivine Gym
The Mineral Badge

Defeated, Jasmine awards you the Mineral Badge, which ensures obedience of all Pokémon up to level 70. She also hands over TM23 (Iron Tail) as a prize.

Route 42

Route 42

Route 42 connects Ecruteak City to Mahogany Town in the east. Mt. Mortar is a large optional cave that contains many rare Pokémon and useful items, but the deepest level is inaccessible without HM07 (Waterfall). There is also another grove of Apricorn trees located between the two lakes.

West side

Pick up TM65 (Shadow Claw) near the Ecruteak gate. As you near the western entrance to Mt. Mortar, a Hiker comes running outside and bumps into you. As an apology, he hands over HM04 (Strength), which allows a Pokémon to move certain boulders out of the way.

Center area

The area between the two lakes is home to another Apricorn grove, in a forested area behind a small tree. Suicune is hiding here as well, and it pushes past you and runs off when you remove the tree. Eusine appears not long after, and reaffirms his dedication to meeting the beast before heading off as well. Grab the Super Potion and continue east to Mahogany Town.

Mt. Mortar

Mt. Mortar is a tall mountain that looms over northern Johto. Inside is a large network of caves, and even a giant waterfall. The high chances of encountering its native wildlife can make getting lost very costly. Surf, Strength, Waterfall, and Rock Climb are required to fully explore the area. The Karate King from Saffron City is training on the lowest floor; venture inside with an empty party slot to receive one of his prized Pokémon.

West, East Entrances

Entrance

Both the west and east entrances lead behind the waterfall to the Lower Cave. A hidden Hyper Potion can be found near the west entrance.

Lower Cave

There are two items that can be obtained before exploring most of the Lower Cave. The ladder atop the stairway to the west leads to an Ether. The ladder atop the stairway to the east, near Poké Maniac Harrison, leads to a Revive.

Northwest of Poké Maniac Harrison is a boulder; move it aside to reach a hidden Max Repel and continue north. A dead-end to the west leads to an Ultra Ball, and a Max Potion can be found among a group of stalagmites to the east. Turn east, then south to fight Super Nerd Markus and reach an Escape Rope. Climb the large stairway to the upper level on the room's east side. Collect the Nugget to the north, then use Rock Climb to scale the nearest cliffside. Follow the path to the west side, scale the cliffs, then head south. Use Rock Climb once more to reach a Protector, and a Rare Candy hidden nearby. Return to the upper level on the east side, and scale the cliffs to the south. This leads to a Full Incense and a hidden Nugget. Basement

Surf east to the southeast corner to reach a Full Restore. Swim northeast to get a Max Ether, then west for a Hyper Potion. There is a boulder farther to the west, but the narrow pathway prevents northward travel. Surf southward and pick up the PP Up near the ladder. Cross the water to the southwest corner, and inspect the wall to find a hidden Ultra Ball. Surf north for a Carbos, then jump the ledge to the southeast and climb the ladder back to the Entrance.

Entrance

Surf north and use Waterfall to scale the cascade, and enter the doorway to the Upper Cave.

Upper Cave

Surf west to reach a Rare Candy in the southwest corner. Head back east, past the platform with Super Nerd Hugh, and swim north across the nearest pool of water. Grab the Max Potion from the platform, and surf to the southeast corner. Head north across the next two pools, the second of which has a Full Restore hidden on its north shore. Go west, jump the ledge, and head west to the wall. Swim north across the water and jump the ledge to reach a platform with TM40 (Aerial Ace). Loop back around to the north, and continue eastward. Surf across another pool, and pick up the Escape Rope from the northeast platform. Cross the northeast pool, then jump the two north-central ledges to collect a Dragon Scale. Jump the third ledge and go west for an Elixir, then cross the northwest pool to the ladder.

Lower Cave

Navigate around the small platforms to get an Iron and a hidden Ether. Go east, then south for a Iron Ball, then follow the platform to the southwest. Grab the Max Revive, and climb down the ladder.

Basement

Walk down the nearest stairway and turn east. Check the lone rock for a hidden Max Revive, and take the large stairway down to the northeastern-most area. The Karate King of Saffron's Fighting Dojo is training here, and gladly accepts your challenge.
