Before you enter Azalea Town, you see that a Rocket Grunt is guarding the entrance to the Slowpoke Well and will not let anyone in. Head into Azalea Town, and go straight to Kurt's house on the northwest. Before that you may wish to visit the Pokémon Center to heal and/or visit the PokéMart to stock up on supplies.

Kurt's House

Kurt is a Poké Ball smith who takes Apricorns and makes different kinds of Poké Balls out of them. When you enter his house, he will talk to you briefly and run out towards the Slowpoke Well. From here, head out to the Slowpoke Well again and this time the entrance is not blocked so you may proceed to enter it.

Once you enter inside, you will see Kurt is injured. Head towards the right entrance and keep walking until you see Team Rocket Grunts. Battle your way through until you reach the Boss.

Rocket Executive Battle

Afterwards, Kurt will appear and thank you and you will be transported back to his house. Here, he will give you a Fast Ball and if you speak to his daughter, she will give you his number. (Which is useful to check when your Apricorn Poké Balls are ready). Heal up and head for the Azalea Gym which has opened up now after defeating Team Rocket.

Azalea Gym

Inside Azalea Gym

Azalea Gym has mostly Bug-type Pokémon so a Flying-type would be advantageous against them if you did not choose a Cyndaquil in the beginning. Inside the Azalea Gym, you need to take these Spinarak-like transporters to reach the leader. To reach Bugsy, take the left Spinarak, take the next one there and pull the lever and then go back on the Spinarak and pull the lever there.

Bugsy, the Bug-type Gym leader

Once you defeat Bugsy, you will receive the Hive Badge and TM89 (U-turn). You will also be able to use HM01 (Cut) outside of battle, although you don't have the HM yet. After this, you may want to heal your Pokémon as there will be a rival battle before you leave for Ilex Forest.

Heading Towards Ilex Forest

When you are ready head west towards the exit to Azalea Town to enter Ilex Forest. Before that however, you will be challenged by your Rival. After the battle, you can finally head towards Ilex Forest. You may wish to heal before you do so.
