Viridian City

Viridian City is a beautiful city surrounded by trees and shaded with green, as if cut from the same cloth as the forest itself. The leader of Viridian Gym is out of town right now, so you won't be able to challenge him for your Earth Badge just yet. According to the old man outside the building, "a young man from Pallet Town became the Leader, but he's often away". The disappearance of Giovanni three years ago left a vacant Gym Leader position, and Blue had just lost his title as Champion to Red, so he took up the role as Viridian Gym Leader. For now, though, the Trainer House is the only place to battle in the city.

Trainer House

Every day, you can have one battle in the Trainer House basement. Any Pokémon above level 50 will temporarily revert to the stats they had at that level, and you are not allowed to use items, either. By default, the only Trainer inside is Ace Trainer Cal, who uses a Lv 50 Meganium, Lv 50 Typhlosion, and Lv 50 Feraligatr. However, more opponents can be added for each person that you interact with by using your PokéWalker. Instead of experience points, you'll earn BP for winning, which can be used in the Battle Frontier near Olivine City. The more Trainers you interact with, the more BP you can earn every day!

On your way out of the city, cut or surf your way to the guy by the pond in the southwest. After telling you about his dream, he will hand over TM85 (Dream Eater), a Template:Type2 move that steals a sleeping foe's health and adds it to your own.

Head south from the city to reach Route 1.

Route 1

Green and rural, Route 1 has a back-country feel that is reminiscent of simpler times. As you head south, you can use the ledges to bypass the fields of tall grass on your to Pallet Town.

Pallet Town

This tiny town is where the Pokémon games first began. It doesn't have a Poké Mart or even a Poké Center, but it does have a Pokémon Research Lab run by Professor Oak, the renowned Pokémon expert.

Red's House

The house on the left belongs to Red, a former Pokémon League Champion who is currently off training somewhere. He hasn't even bothered to call his mom, so it must be some intense training!

Blue's House

The house on the right belongs to Blue, another former Champion and current Gym Leader of Viridian City. Blue isn't home, but his sister Daisy is always around. If you visit her between 3:00pm and 4:00pm, she'll groom one of your Pokémon, which will raise its friendship, beauty, and sheen. After Daisy has groomed your Pokémon at least seven times, she will give you Blue's phone number, which will let you set up a rematch with him after winning your 16^th badge.

Oak's Pokémon Lab

Visit Professor Oak's lab and greet the professor. He has a gift for you, but you'll have to earn all of the eight Kanto badges first. Once you've accomplished that, make sure to return for your prize.

If you talk to the professor, he'll rate your Pokédex for you, to give you an idea of how much work you've got left to do. There are 493 known species currently, and they're not going to catch themselves! You can also use your Pokégear to have him rate it over the phone.

Without a Poké Center nearby, you'll need to fly off somewhere else to rest your team. Your next stop, Cinnabar Island, is south of Pallet Town.
Surf along the canal on the south side of town, and you'll find yourself on Route 21.
