After defeating Whitney, instead of receiving your badge she starts to cry. The girl you battled before Whitney will tell you that she does this every time she loses. Talk to her again to get the Plain Badge. In addition to that you will get TM45 (Attract). You will also be able to use the HM move Strength outside of battle.

Goldenrod City

Goldenrod City is the biggest city in Johto. There are a few important things you do not want to miss.

Goldenrod City Department Store

The Goldenrod City Department Store is much bigger than the average PokéMart and is stocked with unique items you can't buy anywhere else. The department store has 6 main floors as well as a basement floor and a rooftop lookout. Here's a list of the floors and what you find on them:

  • B1- Training Room. This floor has some Machoke, trainers, and some boxes. There are also 3 accessible itemballs that you can get. To get them, go to a different floor and then come back. When you come back the boxes will be rearranged. Do this until you get all three items.
  • 1- Service Counter. Not much here really. There is a poster pinned to the wall that lists the names of every floor.
  • 2- Trainer's Market. This floor has the same things you would find in a regular Pokémart. Poké Balls, Repels, Potions, Escape Ropes, etc.
  • 3- Battle Collection. Here you'll find things to be used during battle such as X Speed, Guard Spec., etc.
  • 4- Medicine Box. Protein, Iron, Carbos, Calcium, etc. can be found here.
  • 5- TM Corner. TM's for the moves Fire Punch, ThunderPunch, Ice Punch, Headbutt and Rock Smash. There is also a guy who wants to trade his Machop for an Abra.
  • 6- Tranquil Square. The only thing on this floor is a Vending Machine. The machine sells Water, Soda Pop and Lemonade. These drinks restore your Pokémon's HP by 50, 60, and 80 respectively.
  • 7- Rooftop Lookout. Nothing much here but occasionally there are bargains to be found. Camper Todd, a trainer who is outside of Goldenrod City on Route 34 will call you if there are sales if you give him your number.

Radio Tower

Another thing Goldenrod City is known for is its Radio Tower. First things first you'll want to get a Radio Card. There is a girl at the counter on the first floor of the tower who will ask you five questions. Answer them all correctly and you will receive a Radio Card for you PokéGear. This will allow you to tune in to Radio Stations on your PokéGear. The questions are pretty easy but here are the answers: yes, yes, no, yes, no. The guy at the counter does the Luck Radio Station. He checks the ID number of your Pokémon and if they match the lucky ID number of the day you win a prize. On the second floor there is a girl named Buena. Talk to her to receive the Blue Card. Every night from 6 PM to midnight she says a password on her radio show. Go to the Radio Tower and tell her the word to receive points on your card. These points can be redeemed for prizes. Buena's Password is only on Pokémon Crystal Version.

Bicycle Shop

Next go to the bicycle shop. The owner there is really bummed because his bikes aren't selling. He asks you to borrow one of his bikes and ride it around to advertise his shop. He also gets your phone number. He eventually lets you own the bike since after you started riding his bikes he got a lot of business.

Underground Tunnel

There are a few trainers here that will want to battle you. In addition to that there are the haircut brothers. Depending on which day you go you could find the younger brother or the older brother. Haircuts raise your Pokémon's happiness level. The older more experience brother raises your Pokemon's happiness level more than the younger brother so he charges 500$ for his work. The younger brother charges 300$. There is a herb shop and a bargain shop in the underground as well but the herb shop is only open on Sunday and Saturday and the bargain shop is only open on Monday mornings. The coin case is also found at the Underground Tunnel.

Other things in Goldenrod City

  • The Name Rater resides in Goldenrod City. There is a sign outside his house so you should be able to find it easier. He can change the nickname of your Pokémon as long as you nicknamed it. Pokémon received in a trade cannot be renamed.
  • On floor 5 of the department store on Sunday's you can receive either TM21 (Return) or TM27 (Frustration) The one you get depends on your lead Pokémon's happiness level.
