Cianwood City

Cianwood City is a lonely little coastal city only connected to Johto's mainland by Route 40 Route 41. Despite its small size, the city is home to its own important locations, including the Cianwood City Pharmacy and the Cianwood Gym. You can also break the rocks north of the city with Rock Smash to find hidden items.

Pick up the Medicine

Your first stop in Cianwood City is the 500-year-old Cianwood City Pharmacy. Upon hearing of the lighthouse Pokémon's illness, the pharmacist gives you the SecretPotion, a powerful medicine that should heal Amphy of its sickness. After giving you the SecretPotion, the pharmacist then offers more traditional medicine for sale.

Save the Shuckle

After obtaining the SecretPotion, visit the house just north of the pharmacy. The guy inside was bullied into giving his prized Sneasel to a kid with piercing eyes and long hair, and he's afraid that the thief may come back. He gives you his Shuckle for safekeeping (as long as you have an empty slot in your party). While not worth much on offense, Shuckle more than makes up for it with its strong defense. It has an unusual ability as well - give it a Berry to hold, and the mold inside its shell degrades the item over time, eventually turning it into Berry Juice. If left with Shuckle even longer, the Berry Juice would solidify into a Rare Candy.

Cianwood Photo Studio

Cianwood's Photo Studio is where Trainers can take pictures of their Pokémon; this function is meant to work with the Game Boy Printer peripheral. You can print out their Pokédex entries or the stats of a Pokémon. Mail can also be printed.

The Poké Seer

The isolated house on the city's northern beach is home to an elderly woman who can tell where and when a Pokémon in your party was caught. Until now, there was no way to know the time or place that a Pokémon was captured, so the Pokémon Seer is the only way to do that. If a Pokémon traded from another game or an in-game traded Pokémon is shown to her, she won't be able to identify any details about it.

The Northern Ledge

Just north of the Poké Seer's house is a tiny ledge work into the cliffs, with none other than Suicune standing here. When you approach, it races around you before running out over the waves. Eusine appears shortly after, and challenges you to a battle in order to prove himself to the legendary beast.

Cianwood Gym

Do the Talking

The Cianwood Gym only allows Template:Type2s to train here, so Psychic- and Template:Type2s will have the advantage here. Avoid using Normal- or Template:Type2s, since they are vulnerable to Fighting-type attacks. While Template:Type2s have full immunity here, a higher-level Kadabra or Pidgeotto will be even more terrifying to the Gym's macho Pokémon.

Cianwood Gym
The Storm Badge

After his defeat, Chuck awards you the Storm Badge. This badge commands obedience from Pokémon of level 70 or less, and also allows Trainers to fly from town to town, after obtaining HM02. Chuck's parting gift is TM01 (DynamicPunch), a move that guarantees confusion upon impact, despite its 50% accuracy rating.

Fly Like A Bird

With your shiny new Storm Badge in hand, speak to the woman in front of the Gym. The woman (who happens to be Chuck's wife) is so impressed that she gives you HM02 (Fly), and thanks you for giving her husband a reason to train. With HM02, you can fly to any familiar town instantly!

Teach one of your Pokémon how to fly, and return to Olivine with the medicine for Amphy.

Olivine City

Back in Olivine, climb back to the top of the lighthouse to deliver the medicine to Jasmine. She administers it to Amphy, and seeing that it is feeling better, promises to return to her Gym.

Defense Girl

Jasmine, the shy and quiet Gym Leader of Olivine City, has not recruited any Gym Trainers. Instead, she stands alone on the rear platform, the only opponent in the building. Previously a Template:Type2 Trainer, Jasmine now specializes in the Template:Type2, which was only recently discovered (along with the Template:Type2). Not only do Steel-types have strong attack power, but they are also great defensively, resisting attack from eleven different types. Fighting-, Fire-, and Template:Type2 attacks are the most effective against her steel-clad Pokémon.

The Mineral Badge

After defeating her, Jasmine awards you the Mineral Badge, which increases your party's defenses. She also gives out TM23 (Iron Tail), a testament to the power of the Template:Type2.

Now fly back to Ecruteak, and head east to Route 42.

Route 42

Route 42 stretches across northeastern Johto, connecting Ecruteak City to Mahogany Town. The large cave here is optional, though it contains many rare items and Pokémon. Another grove of Apricorn trees is located on the central landmass, which is where you'll meet Suicune for the second time (after seeing it in Cianwood City).

Surf east across the two small lakes on the way to Mahogany.
