Trivia

  • Due to their similar appearance, Mamanbou was originally thought to be an evolution of Luvdisc.

Origin

Mamanbou appears to be a combination of an ocean sunfish and a heart. Due to its hand-like fins and heart shaped body, it may have been inspired by the Claddagh ring. It's ability to heal other Pokémon may be inspired by Doctor fish.

Name origin

Mamanbou could be derived from 翻車魚 manbō, the Japanese word for the ocean sunfish, and "Mama", referencing its status as the Nursing Pokémon.
