Synopsis

While cutting through a mountain pass, Ash and his friends decide to stop into the local Pokémon Center for directions. They are surprised when they discover nobody is there, with no sign of Nurse Joy. The plot thickens when they take it upon themselves to investigate and discover security camera footage of a Shiftry immobilizing Joy with Stun Spore before carrying her off. Their only clue as to Joy’s location is a mysterious entry on Shiftry in the Pokédex, indicating that these Pokémon inhabit only trees that are over 1000 years old. Ash and his friends decide to go to the biggest tree in the area to save Nurse Joy.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket sees Shiftry carrying Nurse Joy. {{MTR} fantasizes that Shiftry would make the perfect fan for the boss, and they decide to capture it.

As Ash and his friends head towards the biggest tree in the area, some Oddish attack them with Stun Spore for no reason. May quickly uses Beautifly's Gust to blow all the Stun Spore away. Once all the Stun Spore is gone, Ash and his friends see that all the Oddish disappeared, however they keep heading closer to the tree. Ash comments on how dark and creepy the forest is, proved by red eyes appearing in the bushes. May starts freaking out, especially when some Seedot jump out and uses Bullet Seed on them. Ash then wonders why they keep being attacked, when the May notices the Oddish standing behind the Seedot. Max guesses that the Seedot and Oddish and trying to help the Shiftry who kidnapped Nurse Joy.

Trivia

  • For reasons unknown, this episode, as well as A Different Kind Of Misty, A Pokéblock Party, and Watt's With Wattson? aired only twice on American TV. These may be classified as the lost TV episodes since Pokémon Advanced underwent a three month hiatus on Kids' WB!.
    • However, they can still be obtained on Volume 8 of the Advanced DVD and the Advanced DVD Box Set, and they were played once more on Cartoon Network's Pokémon Episodes that are new to the network in the summer of 2008.
  • Though Who's That Pokémon? is supposed to be completely random, Shifty's pre-evolutions, Seedot and Nuzleaf, were this episode and the previous episode's Who's That Pokémon?, respectively.

Errors

  • Throughout the episode, an attack that involved a shiny blue powder that made things fall asleep was referred to as Stun Spore in the dub. This attack was obviously Sleep Powder.
  • When Ash's Taillow uses Wing Attack on wild Nuzleaf, its wings are not glowing.
  • When the group watches the security camera footage and first see Nurse Joy, the window and curtains disappear. They reappear in the later scenes. Also, when Nurse Joy checks the window in the security camera footage, it was wide open. However, at the beginning of the episode, the window was only slightly open.
  • There were a few scenes where May called out her Pokémon and she was not wearing her gloves.
