The 2011 Pokémon World Championships will be the eighth annual invitation-only championships for players in the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon video games, marking the third consecutive year of this international event. Run under the auspices of Play! Pokémon, the Organized Play division of The Pokémon Company International, the event will be held in August of 2011 in San Diego, California, the third time that city has hosted the event. The seaside city on the southern coast of California had previously hosted the event in 2005 and 2009.

Trading Card Game Championships

The format to be used will be the 2010-11 Modified format using all cards from Majestic Dawn onward.

Video Game Championships

Although the full details of the rulings and qualifiers will be not be available worldwide until Spring 2011, it has been revealed that like previous tournaments, the battles will be Double Battles using the "Flat Battle" ruleset. However, unlike previous tournaments, participants will have to use Pokémon Black and White (as opposed to 2009 which used Pokémon Platinum, and 2010 which used Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and the only Pokémon eligible are those found in the Unova Pokédex, with the exception of Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect.
