At first, they met {{Special|Sapphire}} when she had to fetch [[Mr. Stone]]'s {{p|Castform}} from being stuck in a fountain. Gabby offered to interview Sapphire, but the girl said she didn't like TV and refused. The whole thing was a plot by Team Aqua to kidnap the president of [[Devon Corporation]]. Mr. Stone was injured in the attack, and Castform was left with Gabby and Ty. They discovered that the criminals were really after the [[Devon Goods]] needed by [[Captain Stern]].

Despite their insistence that Mr. Stone had been attacked by men dressed like pirates, Archie ran the story that he was actually injured by wild Pokémon.

Gabby and Ty tracked down Captain Stern and explained the situation to him. [[Norman]] happened to be there as well, looking for his son, {{Special|Ruby}}, who had saved Captain Stern from Team Magma members. Norman discovered where Ruby had last been, and Gabby and Ty decided to follow him.

They tracked Norman and Ruby to the [[Weather Institute]] on [[Route 119]]. The area was experiencing heavy rainfall. Norman and and Ruby were engaged in a rough and dangerous battle on the slippery staircases of the Weather Institute. Gabby pleaded with Castform to do something, so the little Pokémon used {{m|Sunny Day}} to clear up the weather. Although it stopped the battle, Ruby and Norman nearly plummeted to their deaths, but were saved at the last moment by Ruby's [[Running Shoes]].

Ruby and Norman resolved their conflict and the duo drove the young [[Pokémon Coordinator]] to the [[Rank#Main series|Normal Rank]] [[Contest House]] in [[Verdanturf Town]], as Norman was called back to his gym by [[Winona]]. Castform had been lonely ever since Mr. Stone had been hurt, so Gabby decided to give it to Ruby.

Gabby, Ruby, and Ty all saw a mysterious {{p|Absol}} near [[Rusturf Tunnel]] before Ruby ended up in another conflict with [[Team Magma]]. Gabby and Ty then drove Ruby to the other Contest House in [[Fallarbor Town]] and discovered that [[Mt. Chimney]] had recently gone dead. While Ruby was taking part in the contests, they went to [[Professor Cozmo]]'s laboratory to investigate the events. To their shock, they discovered that for some reason, their TV station refused to report this big news to the public.

Gabby called her boss to ask why this news story wasn't being covered, but [[Archie]] said he didn't want to cause the public to panic. Confused, the two interviewers parted ways with Ruby to investigate the Hoenn crisis further.

Gabby and Ty returned to their Hoenn TV headquarters in [[Lilycove City]]; there they witnessed Archie and [[Maxie]] battling each other. Gabby finally realized that Archie was the head of Team Aqua and had been airing exaggerated news of Team Magma's deeds while refusing to address Team Aqua's actions. Later, Absol took them to Sootopolis.

==In the Pokémon Special manga==
Gabby and Ty are also featured as fairly important supporting characters in the [[Pokémon Special]] manga; in the Chuang Yi translation, they are called '''Maryann''' and '''Tyler'''. They worked at a TV station run by [[Archie]], unknown to most of the public as the leader of [[Team Aqua]].

At first, they met {{Special|Sapphire}} when she had to fetch [[Mr. Stone]]'s {{p|Castform}} from being stuck in a fountain. Gabby offered to interview Sapphire, but the girl said she didn't like TV and refused. The whole thing was a plot by Team Aqua to kidnap the president of [[Devon Corporation]]. Mr. Stone was injured in the attack, and Castform was left with Gabby and Ty. They discovered that the criminals were really after the [[Devon Goods]] needed by [[Captain Stern]].

Despite their insistence that Mr. Stone had been attacked by men dressed like pirates, Archie ran the story that he was actually injured by wild Pokémon.

Gabby and Ty tracked down Captain Stern and explained the situation to him. [[Norman]] happened to be there as well, looking for his son, {{Special|Ruby}}, who had saved Captain Stern from Team Magma members. Norman discovered where Ruby had last been, and Gabby and Ty decided to follow him.

They tracked Norman and Ruby to the [[Weather Institute]] on [[Route 119]]. The area was experiencing heavy rainfall. Norman and and Ruby were engaged in a rough and dangerous battle on the slippery staircases of the Weather Institute. Gabby pleaded with Castform to do something, so the little Pokémon used {{m|Sunny Day}} to clear up the weather. Although it stopped the battle, Ruby and Norman nearly plummeted to their deaths, but were saved at the last moment by Ruby's [[Running Shoes]].

Ruby and Norman resolved their conflict and the duo drove the young [[Pokémon Coordinator]] to the [[Rank#Main series|Normal Rank]] [[Contest House]] in [[Verdanturf Town]], as Norman was called back to his gym by [[Winona]]. Castform had been lonely ever since Mr. Stone had been hurt, so Gabby decided to give it to Ruby.

Gabby, Ruby, and Ty all saw a mysterious {{p|Absol}} near [[Rusturf Tunnel]] before Ruby ended up in another conflict with [[Team Magma]]. Gabby and Ty then drove Ruby to the other Contest House in [[Fallarbor Town]] and discovered that [[Mt. Chimney]] had recently gone dead. While Ruby was taking part in the contests, they went to [[Professor Cozmo]]'s laboratory to investigate the events. To their shock, they discovered that for some reason, their TV station refused to report this big news to the public.

Gabby called her boss to ask why this news story wasn't being covered, but [[Archie]] said he didn't want to cause the public to panic. Confused, the two interviewers parted ways with Ruby to investigate the Hoenn crisis further.

Gabby and Ty returned to their Hoenn TV headquarters in [[Lilycove City]]; there they witnessed Archie and [[Maxie]] battling each other. Gabby finally realized that Archie was the head of Team Aqua and had been airing exaggerated news of Team Magma's deeds while refusing to address Team Aqua's actions. Later, Absol took them to Sootopolis.

Gabby and Ty were also seen in the {{Special|Emerald chapter}}, on a ship heading to the {{ho|Battle Frontier}}.

Due to the fact that both Hidden Power's type and its power are the products of rounding down, chances of getting a Pokémon with certain Hidden Power are not equal, as one might have thought, and are different for every Hidden Power's type and damage value.

As it was stated before, the number of theoretically different Hidden Powers is 4096, which is the result of multiplying theoretical values of possible types (64) and powers (also 64). It means that every of 64 "types" comes into 64 "powers". After rounding down, however, the number of 64 "types" is reduced to 16 and the number of 64 "powers" to 41.

Heatran is a tortoise-like creature with a reddish-brown body that has orange and gray spots. Heatran has metal bangles locked on its legs and the four claws on each of its feet are in a cross formation. Heatran has a gray underside, its face is covered by an iron mask and it has red-orange eyes. Whenever it is seen with its mouth open, an orange glow eminates from inside it. Because of its intense body heat, certain parts of its body are melted slightly out of shape.

Heatran can use its cross-shaped claws to dig deep into walls and ceilings and crawl up on them.

Heatran mainly attacks by using {{t|Fire}}-type attacks such as {{m|Flamethrower}} and {{m|Fire Fang}}, but it also knows a couple of {{t|Steel}}-type moves like {{m|Iron Head}} and {{m|Flash Cannon}}. Heatran can use some {{t|Rock}} and {{t|Ground}}-type attacks, such as {{m|AncientPower}}, {{m|Stone Edge}}, {{m|Earth Power}} and {{m|Earthquake}}.

Heatran is the [[Signature move|only known Pokémon]] that learns {{m|Magma Storm}}.

The Cradily has some markings on its skin that looks like its eyes, which are actually the yellow dots on the black part of its head. It also has eight pink tentacles around its neck. Its body is a lump with four tubes. Cradily is a fossil Pokémon no longer found in the wild, and must be evolved from a {{p|Lileep}} resurrected from a [[Claw and Root Fossils|Root Fossil]].

Cradily's strength is far greater than that of its pre-evolution. It is able to roam the seafloor in search of its prey, and upon finding it, Cradily uses its massive tentacles to grip and then eat its prey. Its tentacles secrete corrosive {{m|acid}} that it uses to melt its prey.

Cradily moves around the seafloor with stealth in search of its prey. It is a powerful hunter, and is very vicious to its prey while preparing to eat it. It makes its nests in shallow waters of the warm seas.

Before its extinction, Cradily inhabited environments adjacent to bodies of water, such as seas or oceans, particularly in warm areas. Its personal nest was often made in the shoals of the sea. It was a common sight on beaches when the tides receded.

To prevent being washed out by rough tides, Cradily utilized its body as an anchor.

[[Claw and Root Fossils|Root Fossils]], from which this Pokémon is resurrected, have been found in the [[Hoenn]] and [[Sinnoh]] regions.

Starmie, like its pre-evolved form, resembles a sea star. This time its main body is violet but it still retains the gold formation on its front. Starmie’s red jewel core is larger than {{p|Staryu}}’s and has developed to resemble a cut precious stone. The major change that took place upon evolution to Starmie was the growing of a second star on its back. It is semi-attached being able to spin 360°.

Starmie is a genderless species.

====Special abilities====
Starmie’s central core shines with the seven colors of the rainbow when looked at from different angles, but usually shows up red more than any other color. It can also emit electrical waves from the core that are powerful enough to reach the furthest parts of the universe.

It uses it second star to propel itself through the water and even to launch out of the water and fly through the air for short periods of time. This also allows it use attacks like {{m|Rapid Spin}}.

Starmie still has all of the abilities of Staryu including re-growing limbs, changing its skin's color and texture, and using its core for energy attacks.

===Behavior===
As Starmie, the Pokémon’s behaviors hint more and more to it being an alien from another planet. At night it becomes active, just like Staryu, although now it will send off mysterious radio signals while its luminescent core flickers.

Starmie are a rare sight in the wild, as they require a [[Water Stone]] to evolve from Staryu. Not only this, but they are nocturnal, usually only appearing at night. If they are ever found in the wild it is in the deepest parts of the ocean among many other Staryu.

For an unknown reason, entering the second room with {{p|Relicanth}} at the top of the [[party]] and {{p|Wailord}} at the bottom of the party causes an earthquake to occur that opens the doors. Note that the party positions must be reversed in [[game|Emerald]].

This is the backup plan the Stones had made in the case that they were unable to destroy the [[Seafloor Cavern]] before [[Team Magma]] and [[Team Aqua]].

==Obstacles==
;Cracked floors
:Cracked floors can only be traveled over with a [[Bicycle#Mach Bike|Mach Bike]]. If a player slows down or walks on the cracks, they will fall through the floor. The Mach Bike will travel over them fast enough to get over them before they crumble away. Cracked floors have only appeared in [[Generation III]], most notably within [[Sky Pillar]].

;Steep slopes
:Steep slopes can only be passed with a [[Bicycle#Mach Bike|Mach Bike]] or, in [[Generation IV]], the bicycle shifted into a faster gear. If a player attempts to walk up or uses a slow bike to ride up the slope, they will slide back down before they reach the top. They will also slide down if they stop on the slope before reaching the top. These are found in both [[Generation III]] and [[Generation IV|IV]].

;Rails
:Rails vary between [[Generation III]] and [[Generation IV|IV]]. In Generation III, only the [[Bicycle#Acro Bike|Acro Bike]] could get across because the rails weren't connected and, to travel them, players would have to hop sideways from rail to rail. In Generation IV, there's no trick to riding on them, so both gears of the bicycle can travel on the rails. If the player attempts to dismount the Bike, a message will appear on-screen, alerting the player that they would "Fall off, and possibly break something!"

;Bumpy slopes
:These slopes, which are only seen in [[Generation III]], can only be climbed with an [[Bicycle#Acro Bike|Acro Bike's]] bunny hop trick.

;Ramps
:In [[Generation IV]], there are some small ramps found on the ground. If the bike is in a fast gear and has space to get up to speed, it will launch off the ramp and jump far. However, if it is in a slow gear or isn't up to speed, the ramp will only launch the bike a little for a much smaller jump. Usually, the ramp puzzles require a far jump rather than a short jump. However, one of the ramps in the secret area of [[Wayward Cave]] requires the bike to be in slow gear or else the player will jump too far.

The '''Mossdeep Space Center''' is located in [[Mossdeep City]]. This destination was chosen because of Mossdeep's ideal weather, clear and sunny with stable winds. The Space Center successfully sends rockets into space, though specifics of the space missions are unknown. There is a white rock outside which holds a special meaning to the people at the space center; it is a symbol of their wish for their rockets to fly safely.

==In the games==
Many scientists work here and are dedicated to the rocket launches' success. The Space Center contains many blueprints of rockets, machines and computers, and has two accessible floors. The Mossdeep Space Center has little to do with the storyline in {{game|Ruby and Sapphire|s}}, while in {{v2|Emerald}}, it plays a larger part.

In the game, a man by the window will reveal the number of successful launches there have been. Another person in the Space Center will give the player a [[Sun Stone]].

===In Pokémon Emerald===
The Space Center in Mossdeep plays a big role in {{game|Emerald}}, as [[Team Magma]] tries to obtain the rocket fuel there to use to make [[Mt. Chimney]] erupt. In {{game|Emerald}}, Team Magma sends a letter to the Space Center, informing them that Team Magma will take the rocket fuel. After defeating the [[Mossdeep Gym]], the player must enter the Space Center and defeat all of the [[Team Magma]] grunts on the first floor in order to go to the second floor. On the second floor, the {{player}} meets up with [[Steven Stone]] and pairs up with him to [[double battle]] against [[Maxie]] and [[Tabitha]].

===Rumors===
In the game, a man by the window will reveal the number of successful launches there have been; the number is determined by the number of weeks since the saved game was begun. Many rumors have been spread about this number and its relation to {{p|Jirachi}} and {{p|Deoxys}}. Many believe that if the man reaches a certain number, the player will be able to ride a rocket into space and battle {{p|Jirachi}}. But, like the [[S.S. Anne#Rumors|truck rumors]] of Generation I, this rumor is false.

==In the anime==

In [[AG099]], Ash and co. visit the Space Center in search of the Mossdeep gym leader, [[Liza and Tate]], but they find that a rocket is about to launch. Meanwhile, [[Team Rocket]] tries to steal a rocket from the Space Center, but their plan is stopped by the help of Liza and Tate.

In the anime, the Space Center contains many training machines for astronauts, such as a moon walker to simulate walking on the moon in low gravity and the MAT (multi-axis trainer) that spins people around.

The '''Dome Fossil''' and '''Helix Fossil''' are [[fossil]]s which appear in the [[Generation I]] {{pkmn|games}}, their [[Generation III]] [[Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions|remakes]], and in the [[Generation IV]] games.

These [[key item]]s are found in [[Mt. Moon]] after defeating a [[Super Nerd]]. [[Player_Character|Players]] are allowed to choose only one, as the other one will be taken by the Super Nerd. If brought to the laboratory on [[Cinnabar Island]], the Dome Fossil can be regenerated into a {{p|Kabuto}}, and the Helix Fossil can be regenerated into an {{p|Omanyte}}. The Pokémon extracted from the Super Nerd's fossil is seen in the zoo just outside the [[Kanto Safari Zone|Safari Zone]].

In the {{pkmn|anime}}, Dome Fossils are seen in ''[[EP089|Shell Shock]]''. They make up the structure of an island, and are revived into Kabuto in red moonlight, causing the whole island to collapse and sink.

Both fossils appear on the artwork for the {{TCG|Mysterious Fossil}} card. However, the artwork depicts the Dome Fossil as the fossil of a {{p|Kabutops}} rather than a Kabuto.

The fossils are also available, like the [[Claw and Root Fossils]], in [[Sinnoh]]'s [[The Underground|Underground]]. Helix Fossils are more common in Diamond while Dome Fossils are more common in Pearl.
