Zoroark (Japanese: ゾロアーク Zoroark) is a Dark Pokémon.

It evolves from Zorua starting at level 30.

Both it and Zorua were the first Generation V Pokémon to be revealed to the public on February 10, 2010. Zoroark initially debuted as a silhouette before being revealed in full.

Biology
Physiology
Zoroark is a bipedal fox-like Pokémon, and mainly grayish-brown in coloration with crimson and black accents. It has a pointed snout and ears, the insides of which have red coloration. Zoroark also has some red rimming its eyes and mouth. Zoroark has a large, voluminous mane, primarily red in coloration but with black tips. The mane also somewhat resembles a ponytail, as a teal bangle down its length separates a mass of the mane from the lower portion. Zoroark has a black ruff on its upper body, pointed at the shoulders from which its arms extend. Its upper arms are thin, whereas its lower arms, while still slim, are bulkier. The arms have spiky extensions of fur at the elbows, and Zoroark's three claws, as well as the claws on its feet, are red in coloration. Zoroark's eyes are red-rimmed with light blue irises.

Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Zoroark are capable of creating illusions that are indistinguishable from reality, deluding many people simultaneously. However, unlike Pokémon that are able to Transform, Zoroark is incapable of physically changing itself into another form; it is merely capable of casting illusions. Thus, Zoroark's type and stats do not change when casting an illusion, and it is unable to use the moves or Abilities of the Pokémon that it is pretending to be. Notably, when a Zoroark takes the form of a human, as it does in Pokémon Black and White Versions 2, it is capable of human speech. However, in , the Zoroark that can be encountered in Lostlorn Forest that is disguised as a human does not speak, and instead makes a screeching growl as she attacks the player. They can, however, make convincing illusions of attacks, and these illusions are extremely realistic, to the point that even cameras are fooled and one may believe they're being physically affected, though the illusion does not have any direct physical effect. Zoroark, along with its Zorua, are the only Pokémon capable of learning Night Daze.

Behavior
Zoroark live in groups, where unity is strong. They are extremely protective of those they care about and are willing to go to any lengths to keep them safe, including risking their own life, and also hold grudges on those who harm their loved ones. Zoroark has the ability to create illusions to confuse foes, and will even create illusory landscapes to hide its territory. Zoroark apparently will hide their Zorua young in their mane to protect them and carry them around.

Habitat
Zoroark appears to live in forests, and will create an illusory landscape to protect its den. One particular Zoroark resides in Lostlorn Forest, using its illusions to betwitch both Trainers and Pokémon to protect its lair.
Major appearances
Zoroark (M13)
Zoroark has a central role in the 13th Pokémon movie, Zoroark: Master of Illusions. She is blackmailed by Grings Kodai to attack Crown City under the guises of Suicune, Entei, and Raikou in exchange for Zorua's safety, unaware of the fact that Zorua managed to escape.
Trivia
* Zoroark was first revealed by Junichi Masuda as a silhouette in the February 7, 2010 edition of Pokémon Sunday. Its full image was later revealed in the March 2010 issue of CoroCoro, alongside its pre-evolution, Zorua.
* Due to its debut before Generation V in Zoroark: Master of Illusions, it can be seen as a parallel to Lucario, which debuted in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, prior to the release of Generation IV. Unlike Lucario, however, Zoroark was revealed at the same time as its pre-evolved form.
**Coincidentally, they both share the same names in Japanese and English versions of the game, are in the Field and need 1,059,860 Exp. to reach level 100.
* Though evolving from Zorua at level 30, pre-release information from CoroCoro suggested it would evolve from Zorua by a method different from known evolution methods. What this method might have been if it was true is unknown.

Origin
Zoroark is likely based on kitsune of Japanese folklore, a shape-shifting mythical fox that would trick unsuspecting travelers for fun. This is similar to Ninetales, another Pokémon based on kitsune. Its facial markings draw from Kabuki and Noh theatre makeup. It also resembles a werewolf, due to the fact that it is an anthropomorphic Canidae, like most werewolves. Its large claws are also werewolf-like.

Name origin
Zoroark may be a combination of zorro (Spanish for fox) and dark or 悪 aku (evil).

Lostlorn Forest (Japanese: 迷いの森 Bewilder Forest) is a small forest-like location in the middle of Unova. It is connected to 16 in the south, and is home to a female Zoroark.

During the first visit to Lostlorn Forest, there is a Backpacker standing in front of a mobile trailer. If talked to, he talks about the woman living in the mobile trailer who thinks living by herself quietly is more important than traveling around the world like he does, before he leaves. The mysterious woman inside the trailer can be interacted with, but won't say a word to the player.

Event
In order to catch Zoroark, the player will need one of the Shiny legendary beasts to activate a special in-game event. Approaching the trailer in Lostlorn Forest with one of the Shiny legendary beasts in the party will initiate the event, causing the mysterious, silent woman to emerge from the trailer with a screeching growl and attack the player.

When the battle starts, the player will suddenly face one of the normal-colored legendary beasts that has a type advantage against the Shiny legendary beast in the player's party (Entei, if the player has a Raikou). Once the non-Shiny legendary beast receives damage, the illusion will dissipate, revealing Zoroark.

After the player catches or defeats Zoroark, the true expanse of Lostlorn Forest is revealed, and the same Backpacker reappears and becomes surprised that the suspicious woman was really a Zoroark in disguise, who was only protecting her home by deceiving both people and Pokémon using illusions. He then states that Zoroark reacted strongly to the Shiny legendary beast in the player's party, and assumed that she may have been in some sort of a previous conflict with it. In , there is a Backpacker who speaks to the protagonist about the Zoroark who lived in the forest, and gives out TM95. However, it is actually a Zoroark in Illusion.

Geography
Lostlorn Forest is an ordinary, small dead-end area inside the central forests of Unova, which contradicts the rumors that people get lost there easily. In , once the player catches or defeats Zoroark, the dead-end area is revealed to be an illusion, and Lostlorn Forest is shown to be a more wide open, windswept plain.

In , a Hidden Grotto is located in the most northeastern part of the area.
Trivia
* Lostlorn Forest shares its Japanese name with an anime-exclusive location in Sinnoh, Bewilder Forest. Also, both locations are home to a Pokémon that can distort reality.
** The Japanese name also matches a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda (Series), the Lost Woods.
* Despite Zoroark being able to be either gender and that it is more likely to be male, this Zoroark is always female. This is likely a reference to the female Zoroark that appeared in Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
* Lostlorn Forest is the only location where the chance of Audino appearing in rustling grass is less than 50%.
* Lostlorn Forest is one of two forests to only have one entrance, the other being Berry Forest.
