The '''Time Capsule''' (Japanese: '''{{tt|タイムカプセル|Taimu Kapuseru}}''' ''Time Capsule'') is a mechanic in {{3v2|Gold|Silver|Crystal}} that allows {{player}}s to [[trade]] {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} back in time to {{4v2|Red|Green|Blue|Yellow}}. A permanent fixture in every [[Pokémon Center]], the Time Capsule is the only facility which allows direct inter-generational trades.

The Time Capsule was also featured as a Trainer Card in the {{Trading Card Game}}.

==In the games==
The Time Capsule is located on the second floor of each [[Pokémon Center]]. However, it will be under repair and unavailable until the {{player}} has met [[Bill]] in [[Ecruteak City]]. Even then, the player has to wait for another 24 hours in the game's internal clock before being able to use the Time Capsule.

After this point, it is possible to [[trade]] with the [[Version|main series]] [[Generation I]] games; however, there are still some restrictions:
* The player cannot have any {{cat|Generation II Pokémon}} or {{pkmn|Egg}}s in their [[party]].
* None of the {{cat|Generation I Pokémon}} that are in the party can know any {{cat|Generation II moves|moves introduced in Generation II}}.

When linked up to a Generation I game, the trade will happen as it did in Generation I, and the [[Generation II]] game will act as if it is a Generation I game.

===Limitations and their consequences===
Because of the restriction that moves introduced in Generation II cannot be traded back to Generation I, a [[Move Deleter]] in [[Blackthorn City]] will delete moves that are incompatible with earlier games. While trades with previous [[generation]]s were not supported in any games after {{3v2|Gold|Silver|Crystal}}, the concept of a Move Deleter was retained as part of gameplay.

===Glitches===
The Time Capsule's limitation that prevents Generation II {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} from entering can be bypassed with the [[Johto guard glitch]], though Generation II Pokémon brought in this way must still only know {{cat|Generation I moves}}. When traded to a Generation I game, they will become [[glitch Pokémon]]. The four Pokémon that evolve by trade in Generation I—{{p|Haunter}}, {{p|Kadabra}}, {{p|Machoke}}, and {{p|Graveler}}—, if traded from a Generation I game to a Generation II game at the correct level, will learn a Generation II move after [[Evolution|evolving]], but can be traded back to Generation I immediately after. However, no [[Pokémon]] bears this type. [[Pokémon egg]]s are typed solely with this before they hatch, and by extension, [[bad egg]]s are also of the ???-type.

==Weaknesses and resistances==
The ???-type has neither any weaknesses nor resistances: all damaging moves do normal damage to a Pokémon of the ???-type, and any damaging move hacked to be of the ???-type will do normal damage against all Pokémon.

==???-type Pokémon==
No real Pokémon are ???-types; however, both {{pkmn|egg}}s and [[bad egg]]s are given this type until they hatch. This can be seen in the Generation III status screen, however, in Generation II and Generation IV, egg status screens do not display type.

While many honest fans distribute hacks of Pokémon games for free over the internet, some unscrupulous people have been known to sell them in the guise of legitimate games. Some of these games are hacked onto the actual game cartridges and sold over the internet on sites such as eBay. There are an uncountable number of hacks available on the Internet (a search on YouTube will easily reveal at least a dozen), so this article will limit itself to only the most notable ones.

It should also be noted that all current Chinese language Pokémon game cartridges are pirated as there have yet to be any official Chinese language Pokémon games.

==Moemon==

Moemon (short for "{{wp|Moe (slang)|Moekko}} Monsters") is another hack of Pokémon FireRed that changes all Pokémon into [http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Gijinka gijinka]. It is a simple change of FireRed, but with additions such as the ability to catch the three [[starter Pokémon|starters]], {{p|Eevee}}, and a mix of both LeafGreen and FireRed Pokémon (thus making it simpler to obtain all Pokémon).

==Pokémon Adventure==

Pokémon Adventure is a hack of an existing pirated game called Sonic Adventure 7 that is for the {{wp|Game Boy Color}}. It has five levels, and the intro sequence consists of a few Japanese [[Pokédex]] screenshots from {{2v2|Gold|Silver}}. Other than the intro, title screen, and ending, the game has almost no relationship with Pokémon, with most of the enemies being from other pirates made by the same company, such as Rockman 8 and Super Mario Special 3.

==Pokémon ChaosBlack==

Another infamous hack is Pokémon ChaosBlack, which is a modification of {{game3|FireRed and LeafGreen|Pokémon FireRed|s}} that was released on the [[Game Boy Advance]]. This game contains many fake Pokémon, including Mewthree. Although it has a reputation as a bootleg cartridge sold illegally, the original creator of the hack released the patch for it onto the Internet. ChaosBlack is infamous for including numerous created Pokémon and harsh language.

The description on the back of some boxes can inform gamers that it is a bootleg, as there is a missing accent on the "e" in "Pokémon". Another large giveaway is the fact that Chaos from Sonic the Hedgehog games exists on the front cover. Also the game was apparantly developed by 'Mewthree Inc.' instead of Nintendo, meaning it couldn't have been endorsed by Nintendo, Pokémon's usual trademark. Despite these obvious flaws, the bootleggers still included a fake Nintendo Seal of Approval on the box and cartridge.

==Pokémon Diamond and Jade==

Possibly the most well-known bootleg "Pokémon" games are the notorious '''Pokémon Diamond and Jade''' (not to be confused with the official [[Generation IV]] games {{v2|Diamond and Pearl|s}}). In truth, these games were poorly translated versions of a Japanese game known as {{wp|Keitai Denjū Telefang}}. Telefang was divided into two versions: Power and Speed; the Power Version became Pokémon Diamond and the Speed Version became Pokémon Jade. Pokémon Jade was sometimes released on the [[Game Boy Color]] on the same cartridge as {{game|Crystal}}, but could also be found as a standalone cartridge. The hacks had numerous glitches that the original game did not have, such as the inability to load a save properly. The game also contains profanity and swearing, which is absent from all official Pokémon games licensed by [[Nintendo]].

==Pokémon Diamond 2 and Jade 2==

Similar to the first fake Diamond and Jade games, Diamond 2 and Jade 2 were hacked from Keitai Denjū Telefang 2. Also, like Diamond and Jade, the Power Version of Telefang 2 became Pokémon Diamond 2, and the Speed Version became Pokémon Jade 2. They are in Chinese, and their title screens have been altered to poorly drawn Pokémon characters. The similarities between the title screens of this and the original Diamond and Jade (as well as the fact that they have Pokémon names in the first place) suggest that these may be made by the same pirates. Diamond 2 crashes after the title screen, making it unplayable without a save state, and Jade 2 has graphical glitches. There is also a poorly translated English version of the Power Version of Telefang 2 called "Pokémon Ruby," which has no relation to the real one.

==Pokémon Naranja/Orange==
Pokémon Naranja is a hack of {{game3|Ruby and Sapphire|Pokémon Ruby|s}} in which the {{player}} plays as either {{Ash}} or [[Misty]] and travels around the [[Orange Archipelago]]. Naranja is a Spanish word which means Orange. Strangely, "naranja" is Spanish for the ''fruit'' orange, while "anaranjado" is Spanish for the ''color'' orange. This could be because many of the places in the Orange Archipelago are named after fruits. {{p|Celebi}} appears on the box art and title screen.

This game is based on the [[Pokémon: The Adventures in the Orange Islands|Orange Saga]] in the {{pkmn|anime}}. The game starts after the player had won the [[Indigo League]]. Despite this fact, the player starts with only a Lv. 5 {{p|Pikachu}}. Many characters, plots and events in the Orange Saga are included in the game, such as the [[GS Ball]], Ash's {{AP|Lapras}}, the [[Orange Crew]], the [[Crystal Onix]], the {{p|Golduck}} from ''[[EP091|Bye Bye Psyduck]]'', and [[Ash's Snorlax]].

This game also includes a special feature: the player's character actually speaks during some of the story sequences, which has never been implemented in any official Pokémon game.

The game maker originally planned to release a third beta version before {{wp|Christmas}} in 2005; however, the creator canceled this for an unknown reason. Therefore, the game is currently incomplete.

Naranja has, much like Chaos Black and Shiny Gold, also been published in cartridge form and sold as a bootleg game by pirates.

==Pokémon Brown==

Pokémon Brown is a hack of Pokémon Red. This hack began production in mid 2002, as a sequel to Koolboyman's "Rated M" ROM hack "Fukemon", titled "Fukemon 2". Finally, on January 16th, 2004, the hack was released to the public. The hack has a complete change of all maps and has some minor script tweaks. Also, almost all the Pokémon sprites have been changed. Pokémon Brown takes place in the Rijon region. The maker of this hack announced a remake of Pokémon Brown that was released in April 2009. The remake contains second and fourth generation Pokémon, new areas, and new additions to the storyline.

==Pokémon Prism==

Pokémon Prism is a hack of {{game3|Gold and Silver|Pokémon Gold|s}} made by Koolboyman, as another entry into his series of hacks, preceded by Pokémon Brown. This hack completely overhauls the original game, and also won [[Pokécommunity]]'s Hack of the Year award in 2007. [http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=120692] It takes place in a new region called Naljo, with new music, new Pokémon types, and more. One feature is to replace the player's sprite with another at a special shop. The game also has crafting systems (not fully implemented as of the second beta release) and the ability to send a Pokémon out of its Poké Ball outside of battle. Like many other hacks, Prism is still in progress, with periodic updates being released to the public.

==Pokémon Quartz==

Another hack of Pokémon Ruby, released by the author as a patch file intended to be played by {{wp|VisualBoyAdvance|VBA}} users who already owned the Ruby cartridge and had a copy of its ROM image. The game has a great number of spelling and grammatical errors, which result from the hack being translated from Spanish, although the grammar improves throughout the game. The game also contains profanity and adult themes, which are absent from all official Pokémon games. Pokémon Quartz replaced all names and graphics of traditional Pokémon with new, made-up Pokémon, although some of the changes were only cosmetic and did not change learnsets or types. The game takes place in a region known as "Corna", a heavily edited version of Hoenn, and requires the player to navigate a very different series of paths during gameplay.

While the best-known bootleg cartridge as played on the actual GBA contains serious glitches and errors, the current patch file release works well with VBA when the patch is applied to a clean image of an actual Ruby cartridge.

Zorak of Something Awful did a complete Let's Play [http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Pokemon%20Quartz/index.html playthrough of the game], which ended in an interview with the creator of the hack.

A sequel to the game, Pokémon Marble, is in its beta release. This version is a hack of Fire Red and has vastly improved grammar and spelling.

==Pokémon ShinyGold==

Pokémon ShinyGold is a total conversion of {{game3|FireRed and LeafGreen|Pokémon FireRed|s}} that turns the game into a {{2v2|Gold|Silver}} remake, much like how FireRed is a remake of {{game3|Red and Blue|Pokémon Red|s}}. It is considered by many people to be among the best and one of the highest-quality hacked games. As well as illegally releasing the game to ROM communities as a patch, some pirates have copied the hack (as with many others) to Game Boy Advance cartridges to illegally sell the game and trick gamers who genuinely think that it is an official Pokémon game. In response to this, Zel (the creator of the hack) placed a note at the beginning of the game saying that the game should be returned if the player paid for it. The game features changes to allow Pokémon that normally evolve via time-based events or trade to evolve by other methods that are more easily available to the player. For example, {{p|Scyther}} evolves into {{p|Scizor}} with a {{evostone|Moon Stone}} rather than by its normal method, trading while holding a {{DL|Type-enhancing item|Metal Coat}}. The game also features many events which were not available in the original game, as well as many [[Generation III]] Pokémon being found in some areas.

In [[Pokémon Crystal]], an elderly fellow visits [[Goldenrod City]]'s [[Goldenrod Game Corner|Game Corner]] every Wednesday and Saturday after the player has become [[League Champion]]. He teaches three different moves for 4000 coins, two of which were [[TM]]s in [[Generation I]] and returned to that status in [[Generation III]], and one of which later became a TM with the other two. These moves are breedable in the same fashion as TMs and HMs.

==Synopsis==
The episode opens with {{an|Dawn}} training {{TP|Dawn|Piplup}} for their next contest battle while {{Ash}}, [[Brock]] and their Pokémon look on. Piplup is excited about its good skills in training and collapses from exhaustion. Meanwhile, [[Team Rocket]] are complaining about walking up a slight grade, with noticeable signs of putting on weight. Though a bit portly around the edges, the exhausted Team Rocket's stomachs begin to rumble, and {{MTR}} mentions that an all-you-can-eat restaurant is up ahead.

The three recount their days working at the summer school and eating tons of food. The three then get into a small dispute about [[Jessie]]'s impersonation of Jessalina. At the Pokémon Center, [[Nurse Joy]] says that Piplup will be just fine and mentions that the reason for Piplup's exhaustion is over training. Dawn is worried for Piplup's outcome, and everyone agrees to take everything a little easier.

At the buffet, Team Rocket is gorging themselves with masses of food and the plates are stacking up. Jessie notices that Meowth's charm is beginning to sink into his forehead. And James pushes it in almost submerging it in Meowth's head, and says it's like "cream cheese". The three all laugh at each other for being just a bit pudgy. Jessie gets angry and institutes an immediate work out session to become a "fighting machine". They all have their dreams of success (Jessie as an actress, Meowth on [[Giovanni]]'s lap and James with training). They decide to go back to the basics and become like their days of old, when they began to try to capture {{TP|Ash|Pikachu}}. When Team Rocket is just about to leave, an old couple calls them "a couple of nice youngsters" when they give up their table to them. They feel the guilt of being nice.

Back at the Pokémon Center, Dawn sits at Piplup's bedside and Piplup wakes up. Dawn begins to cry out of sorrow for all the things that have caused Piplup to collapse from exhaustion. Piplup falls asleep in Dawn's arms. Dawn walks out to find Ash talking to [[Professor Oak]] who Dawn still calls "The Poetry Man". Professor was telling Ash about {{TP|Ash|Gliscor}} about its weak spots and to pay attention to agility when raising his Gliscor. Professor Oak recommends to Dawn to exchange information with other trainers and coordinators. Team Rocket are beginning their exercise routine, including {{TP|Jessie|Wobbuffet}}, {{TP|James|Mime Jr.}} and {{TP|James|Carnivine}}.

Back at the Pokémon Center, Brock, Ash and {{TP|Brock|Sudowoodo}} are helping Nurse Joy by doing the dishes, as well as {{TP|Ash|Chimchar}} and {{TP|Dawn|Ambipom}}. {{TP|Dawn|Swinub}} tries to eat the food for everyone, but {{TP|Ash|Staravia}} protects the food knowing full well of Swinub's eating habits. {{TP|Dawn|Buneary}} shows herself off in the mirrored side of a counter and Pikachu and {{TP|Brock|Happiny}} sigh. {{TP|Brock|Croagunk}} just looks at it self in shiny metal. Everyone gets hungry and Ash begs Brock to make some food. Brock is caught in a trance in helping Nurse Joy. He goes into a small story about his need to help Nurse Joy and day dreams about his little romances, which Croagunk undoubtedly interrupts.

Team Rocket then appear in a fast moving car heading towards the Pokémon Center thinking about their new-old selves. They are planning a heist like they did in [[EP002|Viridian City]]. They got into the Pokémon Center without attracting attention. They split into two teams: Jessie and James on one and Meowth and the other Pokémon in the other. Meowth and the other Pokémon begin to stuff stolen Poké Balls into Carnivine's mouth, but Carnivine can't hold all the Poké Balls and spits out a couple, which hit the ground waking Piplup up. Piplup walks into the hallway and Piplup screams to grab the attention of all the others. Everyone claims that their Pokémon have been stolen and Nurse Joy says that the repository is empty. Ash and friends run out and see Team Rocket.

Team Rocket begins their [[Team Rocket motto]] from the old days. They begin a Pokémon Battle and Team Rocket retreats to their car. Their car turns into one of their new mechas, with the captured Poké Balls. Piplup uses Bubble and creates a huge bubble blocking Team Rocket's sight. Pikachu uses Iron Tail to dislodge the pod carrying the stolen Pokéballs and it falls to the ground, which Happiny catches. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to cause the machine to fail, and then explode, causing Team Rocket to fly and "blast off again". Nurse Joy thanks Ash and Friends, and Brock gets sad and goes into his sappy mood about having to leave Nurse Joy. Ash and Friends head to [[Celestic Town]].

A '''bad egg''' (Japanese: '''ダメタマゴ''' ''no-good egg'') is a glitch present in the [[Generation III]] and [[Generation IV]] Pokémon games that results from a corruption of Pokémon data so that the {{wp|checksum}} does not match up with the data's calculations.

Bad eggs are not really [[Pokémon egg]]s, and may possibly never have been, but instead the default message returned by the game if the checksum is off (which happens only if data is altered badly). Bad eggs will never hatch and cannot be released, merely taking up space, though there are methods of removing them.

Like a normal egg, bad eggs appear with a type of {{t|???}}, as well as have the same Pokémon status screen as an egg would. Despite this, the similarities end there, as bad eggs can be [[held items|holding items]] (which cannot be taken) and be placed within types of [[Poké Ball]] aside from the standard kind. Some may be reported to have [[Pokérus]] or be cured of it, and may be [[unable to battle|fainted]].

A bad egg placed in the first slot of the [[party]] will, rather than having a normal egg menu sprite, have a differently colored version of the menu sprite of the Pokémon following it, such as a golden {{p|Bulbasaur}}, a blue {{p|Marowak}}, or a brown {{p|Ho-Oh}}. It is unknown why this happens, as even {{shiny2}} Pokémon have a normal-colored menu sprite, however it may have to do with the game using an egg sprite's palette for the first sprite information it encounters (as the bad egg's is blank).

If it is forced to hatch through use of a cheat code, a [[Question mark (Generation III)#?|?]] will come out and the game will immediately freeze.

When using the [[GameShark]] code for quick {{pkmn|Daycare}} level-up, an invisible bad egg will appear in the party, which can be switched around using the PC and used in battle.

Alternatively, by using codes to capture wild Pokémon instantly, reducing their HP to 0 yet keeping the battle going, it will be sent to the PC instead as a bad egg. This bad egg can be removed from the game by picking up another Pokémon while it is held, then setting it back down. This bad egg appears differently; instead of an egg in its status box, it is the "unseen Pokémon" image used in the Pokédex and by [[ten question marks|??????????]]. Like ??????????, using it in battle will cause an instant white out (if used without any other Pokémon in the party).

Bad eggs can also occur if the player attempts to hack a Pokémon which has an illegal moveset, as the checksums will not add up correctly (as the checksum would use the Pokémon's normal moveset at that level as a check).

===Generation IV===
It is possible to encounter a bad egg in the wild by using an [[Action Replay]] on {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}} and setting the wild Pokémon modifier code to 495 (normal eggs appear for 494). The game will freeze instantly on capture when the game attempts to show the Pokédex entry. A normal egg captured in this way will hatch into a random Pokémon, including Pokémon that do not normally hatch from eggs like [[legendary Pokémon]] and evolved Pokémon, or may hatch into [[DPBox]] or, like its [[Glitch egg|Generation II counterpart]], another egg (which will then go on to hatch into a DPBox itself). Due to being incorrectly generated, whatever is hatched may eventually turn into a bad egg itself, and then subsequently hatch yet again.

The same issues with regards to capturing Trainers' Pokémon and double battles remain in play in Generation IV, with bad eggs popping up in the same situations.

===Hacked data in Pokémon Battle Revolution===
In [[Pokémon Battle Revolution]], some Pokémon that are hacked may become bad eggs when they are copied from {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}. A common example of a bad egg replacing a Pokémon is when that Pokémon has more than 510 [[effort values]]. Bad eggs are unable to battle in Pokémon Battle Revolution.

If the player has a hacked Pokémon, although it won't appear to be a bad egg on their DS game, it will show up as a bad egg on Pokémon Battle Revolution if used in a DS battle.

== Trivia ==
*Bad eggs in Generation IV that result from cheating while online often are holding [[Cherish Ball]]s, which of course the player cannot take from them.
*In addition, Generation IV bad eggs usually have [[seals]] attached, which prevents them from being deposited in the PC. It is thus possible for all party slots to be taken up by bad eggs. If this occurs, battles cannot be fought at all.

== Synopsis ==
Excited about winning his {{Badge|Boulder}}, {{Ash}} can't wait to get to [[Cerulean City]] to battle for his {{Badge|Cascade}}. For some reason, though, [[Misty]] was trying to avoid entering Cerulean and tries to convince them to go to [[Vermilion City]] but fails, she then leaves Ash and [[Brock]] as they enter the city.

When Ash and Brock enter the city they see a big crowd of people in a circle surrounding a building when they get to the front they see [[Officer Jenny]] and she accuses Ash and Brock of being the criminals. When they prove their innocence, she lets them go then sends the rest of the crowd away. After that, they sat on a bench and Ash ask Brock for inside information on the [[Gym Leader]]. Brock says he is a Gym Leader, too, and he cannot give out that information. Then Brock says to him "I have to take care of some business in town". They split up and Ash heads to the [[Cerulean Gym]] and Brock does his own thing.

When Ash gets to the gym, he finds three sisters performing underwater. Ash confronts the girls backstage, finds out that they are the Gym Leaders and challenges them to a battle. The girls ({{ka|Lily}}, {{an|Daisy}} and [[Violet]]) explain that their Pokémon are too tired to battle, and offer Ash the badge without a battle. Ash is about to take it, when Misty appears and challenges him.

It turns out that Misty is the youngest of [[Sensational Sisters]], but they call her "the runt". After Misty argues with her sisters, she challenges Ash to an official Cerulean Gym battle with rules of 2 on 2. Ash tries to send out {{AP|Pikachu}} but he refuses to go into battle because he does not want to hurt Misty or her Pokémon. So instead Ash sends out {{AP|Butterfree}} to battle Misty's {{p|Staryu}} after a quick battle, Butterfree gets knocked into the water causing it to lose the battle. After that Misty sends out {{TP|Misty|Starmie}} and Ash sends out {{AP|Pidgeotto}}. Just as Ash is about to win the battle [[Team Rocket]] interrupts and tries to steal all the Water Pokémon and the water from the Gym.

While Team Rocket is stealing all the Water Pokémon by using a vacuum machine, Pikachu gets sucked in as well. He releases a {{m|Thunderbolt}} causing the machine to explode, sending Team Rocket flying. After Team Rocket is gone, Daisy gives Ash the {{badge|Cascade}}. Misty tries to argue but her sisters but they convince her that if Ash used Pikachu from the start, he would have beaten all her water Pokémon. Misty agrees with her sisters and claims that when she comes back from her journey with Ash she will be a great Trainer. Brock then meets Ash outside of the gym and together they head for Vermilion City

== Synopsis ==
{{Ash}}, [[Misty]] continue their travel through the [[Viridian Forest]] on the way to [[Pewter City]]. Suddenly, Ash spots a {{p|Weedle}} and decides to catch it. He tries to use {{AP|Pikachu}} against it, but it is more interested in sleeping rather than {{pkmn|battle|battling}}, so he sends out his {{AP|Pidgeotto}}. Pidgeotto manages to defeat Weedle but just when Ash is about to toss a [[Poké Ball]] to capture it, a person dressed as a [[samurai]] arrives on scene. The samurai asks Misty if she is from [[Pallet Town]] and when she replies in the negative, he turns to Ash. The {{pkmn2|wild}} Weedle escapes and the samurai rebukes Ash for it. The two then engage themselves in a Pokémon battle.

Ash uses his Pidgeotto and the samurai battles with his {{p|Pinsir}}. The two battle for sometime and finally, Pinsir manages to defeat Pidgeotto. Ash then sends out his {{AP|Metapod}}. Metapod breaks Pinsir's pincers with {{m|Harden}} and wins the round. The samurai then sends out his {{p|Metapod}}! The two Metapod continue to harden themselves leading Misty and Pikachu to wonder whether the match would ever finish. Suddenly, a swarm of {{p|Beedrill}} arrive and lift Ash's Metapod away. The samurai takes Ash, Misty and their other Pokémon to a safe place.

In the samurai's hiding place, the samurai furiously rebukes Ash for putting his Metapod in danger. Ash keeps mum and promises to himself that he would find out Metapod the next day and look after it from then on. During the night, he is unable to sleep and can only think about his Metapod.

The next day, the group start their search for Metapod. They soon find it on a tree among many {{p|Kakuna}}. Ash joyously goes to Metapod to take him back in his team. He however sees a look of sorrow on Metapod and realizes that he has lost its trust. He apologizes to it and promises to take better care of it next time and manages to regain its trust. To show that it has faith in him, Metapod saves him from a Beedrill which was about to attack him from behind. It then starts glowing and [[Evolution|evolves]] into a {{AP|Butterfree}}!

Ash and the others are then once again attacked by the swarm of Beedrill, but this time, Ash is prepared for them. He orders his newly evolved Butterfree to use {{m|Sleep Powder}} and which puts the bee-like Pokémon to sleep. They then escape from the area.

Later, Ash and the samurai part as friends, but promise to battle again. He and Misty then go on and finally reach the end of the Viridian Forest. Ash runs at full speed towards [[Pewter City]] to earn his first [[Gym]] [[Badge]], with Misty close behind.

== Synopsis ==

{{Ash}} effortlessly captures the {{AP|Caterpie}} he tossed a Poké Ball at in [[EP002|the last episode]]. [[Misty]] shows her complete dismay at it as she fears Bug-type Pokémon.

Even before the celebrations for Ash catching his first Pokémon can start, he spots yet another Pokémon, a {{p|Pidgeotto}}. Ash sends out his Caterpie to weaken the {{t|Flying}} Pokémon, but having a type advantage over Caterpie, Pidgeotto easily defeats it with a {{m|Peck}} attack. Misty then tells Ash that bugs are weak to fliers and so, Ash uses his {{AP|Pikachu}}. Pikachu {{m|Thunderbolt}}s Pidgeotto, knocking it out, and Ash easily makes his second capture. [[Team Rocket]] then arrive on scene and attack the {{Ashfr|twerps}}. Ash sends out Pidgeotto and Pikachu to battle, but {{TP|Jessie|Ekans}} and {{TP|James|Koffing}} manage to defeat them. Ash is then compelled to use his Caterpie. [[Jessie]] and [[James]] make fun of the caterpillar Pokémon, but it actually manages to defeat Ekans and Koffing with a {{m|String Shot}}! Team Rocket then call a full retreat and runs away with Meowth in tow, and Misty is about to try and get over her phobia by petting Caterpie [on Ash's request] when suddenly, Caterpie starts covering itself with some fluids and becomes brighter and brighter. It then starts to grow, and finally, becomes a {{AP|Metapod}}!

Ash and Misty then continue their journey through the forest to [[Pewter City]] with two new friends - Metapod and Pidgeotto.

== Synopsis ==
After his battle with the {{p|Spearow}}, {{AP|Pikachu}} is badly injured, {{Ash}} is told by [[Misty]] about a place where he can take Pikachu to be healed, a {{g|Center}}. They head to the [[Viridian City]] Pokémon Center to be healed. When entering the town, Ash is stopped by [[Officer Jenny]], who finds him suspicious, due to the fact he is carrying Pikachu in his arms and not a [[Poké Ball]], but Ash confirms his identity with his [[Pokédex]], Jenny then rushes Ash to the Pokémon Center. Misty enters in the Pokémon Center with her destroyed bike, angry because it was Ash's Pikachu that did it. Ash explains that Pikachu is injured badly, and Misty forgets about her bike and instead thinks of Pikachu. As Pikachu is treated, Ash feels crestfallen and calls home. His [[Delia Ketchum|mother]] tries to encourage him, but he still feels downtrodden. He is then called by [[Professor Oak]] who is surprised that he reached Viridian so soon. Ash then tells him about [[Ho-oh (anime)|the golden colored flying Pokémon he saw earlier]] (in the [[EP001|last episode]]). Oak feels that he is lying because many trainers have never seen that Pokémon even after searching for it during their whole life! They then exchange good wishes and hang up.

Meanwhile, two 'wanted' posters are revealed, showing the pictures of two 'Most Wanted criminals', [[Jessie]] and [[James]] of [[Team Rocket]]. The two trouble makers spot the posters and swear vengeance on Viridian for putting up wanted posters of them. Their ally {{MTR}} is then revealed to be their [[Pokémon]].

While Pikachu is being treated, Team Rocket attack the Pokémon Center with the intent of stealing the Pokémon inside. The Center's [[Nurse Joy]] tries to transfer all Pokémon to the safety of the [[Pewter City]] Pokémon Center, because it is an emergency. Team Rocket use their [[Jessie's Arbok|Ekans]] and [[James' Weezing|Koffing]] to wreck havoc in the Center. However, just then Pikachu somehow manages to revive itself and along with the other Pikachu from the Center's back-up power generator, {{m|ThunderShock}} Team Rocket away.

Officer Jenny arrives too late as Team Rocket manages to escape in their Meowth shaped balloon. They agree that Pikachu would make a great gift for their [[Giovanni|boss]] and decide to steal it when the chance comes.

Ash leaves Viridian City and heads for the [[Viridian Forest]] with a revived relation with Pikachu and Misty in tow. Spotting a {{p|Caterpie}}, he attempts to capture it.

In other words, during the planning and development stages of {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}, several features were designed to be a part of the gameplay. But before the games were released, the design was changed and these features were dropped from official play. Some remnants of this data can still be found in the game's programming.

Back sprites, presumably from the game's early prototype stage, of Shellos and Gastrodon have been found. These forms are possibly leftovers from when Shellos and Gastrodon [[Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire beta|were planned]] to be in {{2v2|Ruby|Sapphire}}. Shellos's sprite is pink, like its [[Form differences|West Sea variation]], and seems to combine the western variation's head with the [[form differences|Eastern variation]]'s body, while Gastrodon's sprite is brown and looks like its Western variation, but with more rock-like protrusions on its body. This may also be another "unofficial confirmation" of [[Pokémon Gold and Silver remakes]] since its [[Pokédex]] data states that its colors and shapes differs from [[region]] to region, although it is unlikely, considering the similarities to the existing forms, and the fact that there are no front sprites for either of the prototype forms.

{{p|Munchlax}}, {{p|Weavile}}, and {{p|Cherrim}} all have had prototype sprites from various pre-release pictures and videos, but these sprites are not in the game's data. The Munchlax just seems to be a duplicate from the Munchlax-sprite in {{pkmn|Dash}}. The Cherrim prototype sprite was shown in an early Japanese commercial. It is surprisingly like the final sprite, only with the left leg up instead. [[Pokémon.com]] showed prototype sprites in their run up to the release of Diamond and Pearl. ==Prototype maps==
A prototype map of [[Spear Pillar]] has been found. This is surprisingly like the normal game's Spear Pillar, but the entrance to [[Mt. Coronet]] is missing. Many also think that the [[Mystery Zone]] found in the {{si|Pokémon League}} is a possible prototype map.

Interestingly, by using a "walk through walls" cheat and going north through the trees at each of the three [[lakefront]]s, one can find a small puddle, perhaps in the game to tell the mapmakers where each lake would be.

==Prototype music==
A prototype track has been found in the music, possibly as a test track. The track, in question, is a remix of the opening theme of the [[Generation III]] games; {{game2|Ruby|Sapphire|Emerald}}.

==Prototype items==
Various items have been discovered by [[Serebii (person)|Serebii]] and various others at [[Serebii.net]] and its forums in the coding of D/P. These items can be obtained using Action Replay and other [[cheating]] products, but cannot be used. They are:

*[[S.S. Ticket]], which allows entry for the luxury liner [[S.S. Anne]] (a possible [[List of cross-generational references|reference]] to {{2v2|Red|Green}} or {{2v2|FireRed|LeafGreen}}).
*[[Contest Pass]], which would allow entry into {{pkmn|Contest}}s. However, {{pkmn|Super Contest}}s allow entry without a pass.
*[[Magma Rock]], which would be a mystical item that could be used in [[Stark Mountain]]. Although it hasn't any known purpose, it is possible it would have something to do with the {{p|Heatran}} event.
*[[Red Chain]], which is a creation by the [[lake trio]] that would be used to awaken {{p|Dialga}} or {{p|Palkia}}. [[Cyrus]] actually himself uses the item in-game, and it's possible that the [[Team Galactic]] event at [[Spear Pillar]] was initially to be activated by the player.
*[[Rule Book]], which was a book that would be used as a guide when using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It's possible that this was removed since these guidelines were contained in the games' instruction book.
*[[Seal Bag]], which held up to 10 [[Seal]]s, but was replaced with the [[Seal Case]].
*[[Treasure Sack]], which was meant to hold treasures from [[the Underground]]. It was replaced with special selections for the Underground.

So, I was using AR(walk-through-walls) on mount coronet and I was just being curious walking through the mountain side and I found a cave! I tried to go in it but I just walked through it in the mountain-side, seems like nothing was completely planned for the cave. Beside it were 6 rocks that could be smashed with rock smash. Well, see for your self if you don't believe me. Okay, get your AR on, with the walk-through-walls code, go to Oreburgh and go into Mount Coronet, follow the way out to the snowy path and go right and you will see the cave and a couple of the rocks, try to enter it, and like me you'll just pass into the mountain side. Well another thing I found is in the second snowy spot. Go into a very left cave in the fist snowy part(the place where there's a waterfall and surf), come out and you'll see 5 rocks that can be smashed with rock smash, you'll see a grassy area with a rock that can't be smashed on your down-side, go there(yes, pokémon can be encountered there, there just normal pokémon, though) and by the end of the grass, you'll see an unused rock climb space that actually says the message, I'm not sure if you can rock climb it, but it's just 2 steps. :ok, i checked it out. its actually the cave entrance for later on, pre-loaded. it only activates if you continue into the mountain and then subsequently come out of that cave. each of Mt. Hey Magnedeth, what about the rock climb place? It's only 2 steps though. You know, if you wanna get to Spear Pillar, you have to pass through 2 snowy areas? Well, just after you enter the second one from the cave with the waterfall and pool of water, go down to the grass where you can't reach without walk anywhere cheat. There are 6 rock smash rocks and theres the grass on a on a slightly higher place. Go to the grass, which goes 5 steps down and you'll see it extends to the left, go until you see 2 steps of rock climb. It even asks you but I'm not sure if Rock climb can be used.
