It is circular, with each train platform having its own entrance. In the middle is a large pillar with several clocks on it. Although it appears to be mostly underground, it appears as a large building with several columns.

===Stops===
The Battle Subway drops the player off at a stop every seven wins. There are many benches, trash cans, a map, and a [[vending machine]]. Across from the train tracks are unreadable lighted signs. Internally, it is called "Battle Subway", and is considered part of Nimbasa City. Like the [[Royal Unova]], most key items cannot be used.

==Challenges==
Seven of the Train lines involve battling. Like the {{DL|Battle Frontier (Generation IV)|Battle Tower|Generation IV Battle Tower}}, the player may participate in [[Pokémon battle|Single Battles]], [[Double Battles]], [[Tag Battle|multi battles]], or Wi-Fi battles. In each mode, the player must defeat seven Trainers in a row (two Trainers at a time in multi battles) to earn [[Battle Point]]s. Afterwards, the player can continue battling or return to [[Nimbasa City]]. The player's total win streak is reported after each battle, and the player's current win streaks and Battle Points can be viewed using the [[Vs. Recorder]].

The single, double, and multi battle modes contain two Train lines: the Normal Trains line and the Super Trains line. In the Normal Trains, the opponents only use {{cat|Generation V Pokémon}}, and the Subway Boss is challenged in the 21st battle. After defeating the Subway Boss, the player is returned to Nimbasa City.

The Super Trains line is unlocked after defeating the Normal Trains' Subway Boss. The player must have the [[National Pokédex]] in order to battle on this line. In this mode, the opponents use fully evolved Pokémon (with the exception of {{p|Porygon2}}) from all five generations. After 48 battles, the Subway Boss is challenged once again.

All Pokémon are set to [[level]] 50 on the Battle Subway, and unlike previous generations this also includes Pokémon below level 50. Like all battle facilities, if a consumable item is used, it will be restored immediately after battle. Unlike previous battling facilities, the player does not automatically lose if both Trainers' last Pokémon [[fainting|faint]] simultaneously; instead, the Trainer whose Pokémon fell first loses.

==Battle Points==
For every 7 consecutive wins, the player is awarded with [[Battle Points]]. The number of points awarded are shown in the table below. Note that the Wi-Fi Trains gives 10 Battle Points for every 7 consecutive wins.

==Variable scoring==
For every time a Trainer is defeated and the player advances to the next cabin, a sound effect or beat is added to the background music. At the first cabin of every train, only the sound of train tracks is played. Subsequently, jingles, bongo drum beats, and a bass tune are added, until the last (seventh) cabin, where a soft melody can be heard in the background.

==Partners==
In the Multi Trains, the player can team up with another player via wireless or infrared. Otherwise, the player can team up with the NPC {{ga|Hilbert}}, {{ga|Hilda}}, {{ga|Nate}} or {{ga|Rosa}} depending on the player's gender and game version. The NPC asks what kind of team the player would prefer to team up with, based on attack, defense or balance, and adjusts the team accordingly.

The Battle Subway appears in the anime as typical public transportation for the citizens of Nimbasa City, as well as featuring Battle Trains that Trainers may battle on. Gear Station made a short cameo in ''[[BW043|Meowth's Scrafty Tactics!]]'' as [[Jessie]] and [[James]] began the next phase of their mission. They continued their mission on into ''[[BW044|Purrloin: Sweet or Sneaky?]]'', ''[[BW045|Beheeyem, Duosion, and the Dream Thief!]]'', and ''[[BW046|Beartic Mountain Feud!]]''. In ''Beheeyem, Duosion, and the Dream Thief!'' their actions were noticed by {{FB|Subway Boss|Emmet}} and his brother {{FB|Subway Boss|Ingo}} through their security office. In ''Beartic Mountain Feud!'', the twins set out to find the cause of the disturbances and they caught a glimpse of Team Rocket, but lost them among the shadows of the subway tunnels.

In ''[[BW047|Crisis from the Underground Up!]]'' and ''[[BW048|Battle for the Underground]]'', {{Ash}}, {{an|Iris}}, {{an|Cilan}}, and {{MTR}} used the Battle Subway trains as a means of transport to reach the Pokémon Center. After the train was stopped, due to Team Rocket tampering with the rail switches, the group met Emmet and Ingo. While they were resting at the Pokémon Center, Team Rocket executed their scheme to steal all the Pokémon at the Pokémon Center, and used the Battle Subway as a medium for transporting them. They used their own specialized train, and were able to create balloon-like duplicates to throw off Emmet and Ingo's security center computer which monitors all trains currently on the rails. Ash, Iris, and Cilan were then assigned to use the maintenance trains to find Team Rocket and retrieve the stolen Pokémon. When things got rough, Ingo and Emmet joined them, using Emmet's {{p|Eelektross}} as a super-charged power supply for the maintenance train.

In ''[[BW051|Lost at the Stamp Rally!]]'', a Stamp Rally was held, offering the prize of an opportunity to battle the Subway Bosses. Cilan entered the challenge, and after he completed the collection and helped Ingo and Emmet reunite a lost {{p|Axew}} with her Trainer, he partners with Ash to battle the twins. They faced Ingo and Emmet's {{p|Chandelure}} and Eelektross, but lost.

Gothitelle is a black and purple bipedal Pokémon. Its head is black with a point on top with a white ribbon-like piece on either side of the point. Its "hair" resembles four disk like projections from each side of the head, imitating the curled ponytails often sported by girls in the gothic lolita fashion. Its face is colored purple and has pink lips and blue eyes. Gothitelle have a black, segmented outer layer, resembling a dress or stacked cones, with white ribbon bows on each segment. Inside its black outer layer are a pair of short, white, cylindrical legs with purple soles, connecting to a white body. It also has white "cuffs" or "bangles" on each of its arms, protruding from which are its tiny hands which are the same color as its face.

She met up with {{Ash}} and {{ashfr}} on her way to [[Nimbasa City]] where she planned to obtain her third Badge. Her {{p|Gothita}} took a liking to [[Ash's Scraggy]], and wanted her to [[trade]] one of her own Pokémon to Ash for him. Of course, Ash refused the trade, but Katharine then suggested they have a battle, and if she won, she would get to trade with him. Again, Ash was not interested in trading Scraggy. Finally, she resorted to taunting him until he eventually agreed. He was able to knock out her {{p|Mandibuzz}} with his {{AP|Tepig}} before they had to take shelter from a freak rainstorm.

Katharine spent the night with the group in a cabin when they were all awakened by {{AP|Pikachu}}, who informed them that Scraggy, {{TP|Iris|Axew}}, {{AP|Snivy}}, and Gothita were missing. She was in a state of panic afterwards, worrying that something bad would happen to her Gothita. With the help of her {{p|Deerling}}, she was able to help calm a {{pkmn2|wild}} {{p|Garbodor}} to stop it from attacking her Gothita and the other Pokémon.

The next day, she battled against him again. This time, she used her Gothita while he used his Snivy. The battle ended in a loss for Katharine, and she was forced to run after her Gothita, who left the scene in a fit over the loss.

She reappeared in [[BW103]] to compete in the [[Higaki Conference]]. In [[BW104]] she appeared on the screen showing the match-ups for the second round of the Conference, meaning she had made it through the first round. In [[BW105]] she appeared once again on the screen of the Higaki Conference, now showing the match-ups for the last sixteen, meaning she had made it through the second and third rounds. In [[BW106]] it was revealed she had made it through the fourth round as well. In the quarter-finals she is set to battle [[Dino]].

Gothita later became angry with [[Ash's Snivy]] after she slapped it on the rear to get it to stop attacking Garbodor. The next day, it wanted to face her in battle. It was quickly defeated, and threw a temper tantrum before leaving the scene.

According to Katharine, Gothita is a big fan of [[Elesa]].

Why not include that error about Dragon Rage being a critical hit? Who determines which aspects of the games are adopted into the anime and which aren't? Because it seems like a helluva lot else does. In fact, we'd have to go back and remove roughly half of all errors ever added because the anime ''may'' work under different rules. The anime, which I need not remind, is based on the games. Heck, for all we know, the anime writers ''intentionally'' wrote that Electric doesn't affect Rock-types when they made that "error" about a half-dozen times in the first season. We should just go ahead and say that indeed, a Rhyhorn is vulnerable to Electricity in its horn and mouth. It's the same logic (rather, lack thereof). Water beats Fire, Pikachu's Static Ability causes Paralysis, and Dragon Rage does 40 damage. Even something as specific as a Pokémon's level is mentioned several times. Why does one person set the precedent for a piece of noteworthy trivia? I don't care if he or she's an admin, or even if there is a circle of admins who agree with him/her, clearly there are four people who made the effort to note that information. Let's not forget either that whatever precedents the Bulbapedia staff have established are not automatically what the writers intended. (Japanese: '''バージル''' ''Virgil'') is a recurring character who debuted in [[BW102]] and a rival of [[Ash Ketchum]]. He is a rescue worker, a job which he carries out together with his father [[Jeff]] and his older brother [[Davey]].

==History==

As a young man, Virgil got lost in a forest with his first Eevee. The Eevee evolved into an {{p|Umbreon}} to help him out of the forest. From that point on, Virgil had gained a greater relationship between him and the Eevee species, training and evolving those that he was acquiring.

He finds {{Ash}}, {{an|Iris}} and {{an|Cilan}} during their trajectory to Higaki City, where Ash was currently going to participate in the Pokémon League tournament. After becoming friends with them, Ash and Virgil work together to solve a problem involving a reservoir taken over by wild {{p|Cryogonal}}. Later, Virgil reveals that he intends to enter the Unova League, making him another one of Ash's rivals.

He reappeared in [[BW103]] to take part in the [[Higaki Conference]]. There, he met up with {{Ash}}, {{ashfr}} and all of Ash's other rivals in [[Unova]]. In the first round he used his {{p|Vaporeon}} to battle against [[Ultimo]] and his {{p|Crustle}}. The battle continued in [[BW104]] and he won, allowing him to move onto the next round. In [[BW105]] he was revealed to have made it through the second round and he was shown defeating a {{p|Reuniclus}} with his {{p|Glaceon}} in the third round, getting Virgil to the last 16 Trainers. In [[BW106]], his {{p|Umbreon}} defeated [[Flora]]'s {{p|Gothitelle}} in the fourth round, gaining Virgil a place in the quarter-finals. There, he is set to battle [[Imotarō]].

==Character==
Due to one of his Eevee evolving into Umbreon to help him out of a dark forest, Virgil has been very grateful towards it and caught more Eevee to complete his collection on Eeveelutions, giving him the status as an Eevee Trainer.
