(I have a topic about this on the BMGf, but I think I should also adress it here.) I think the in-game data should be taken at more value than even Nintnedo's word, or guides (which they apparently have used "Gary" for Blue.) That said, I also don't think we've ever deviated from using a name if the game dosen't randomize it when we enter a blank name in-game.

With Diamond being the 'primary' version, if you enter his name in blank, it comes up as "Pearl". If I'm not mistaken this is exactly how we get Blue's name in the original versions.

I'd still like to see some of Nintnedo's use of the name, regardless.

Yes, I found out that I was wrong about the Blue thing. My mistake. I still think it's a working argument when compared to characters like Gold, Kris, and Silver (I'm told Crystal version gives you the name Silver by default.)

Well, after I beat him at the Battle Zone the first time I decided to go to the pokémon league so I could train my lv 75 Luxray to lv 100, 2 weeks later my Luxray reached 100 and so I decided to look for Cresselia and Giratina the only 2 non-event legendaries I didnt own and when I caught them I went back to the Battle Zone to challenge him and my lv 100 Luxray was the first one in my party and when the battle started all his pokémon were stronger than before and thats all I recall doing, but if anyone is interested in seeing the match I plan on posting the battle on youtube later this week, so if anyone wants to see it contact my user page and I'll direct you to my user page on youtube, I hope this helps. Since I was under the impression that Silver was Silver because both Gold and Crystal had listed that as the default name, would we call Pearl one of the ingame names if a name used in Platinum is the same default in either Diamond and Pearl? Example: They use Barry in Diamond as the first default, and use Barry again in Platinum, could that be enough to make it the "unofficial" offical name? Or whatever name it comes up with (Diamond/Pearl) if we enter the name in blank since two out of the three versions agree.

::I did. He's called Pearl because that's Diamond's default name. We got Blue's name from GSC, and Silver's name from G/C and Kris because Crystal is the only game she appeared in leaving Gold as the only unclaimed name. ::::I think at this point it's highly implied his intended name is Barry. Back in 2007 Jun seemed to be just a name the fans picked up for the sake of needing a name. Whether or not it was influenced by the fans, the reintroduction of the name Barry as the first name in Plat seems to be an unusual thing that hasn't really happened with any other characters as far as I can tell. Also the anime producers seem to be very cautious about how they name characters these days, they don't seem to be throwing darts at a board anymore with this random Satoshi/Kenta stuff. They're really being careful these days. While it's true Barry (game) does not equal Barry (anime) that doesn't discount it as coming from a very important source that carefully picked the name. Anyway, I know why the name Pearl was picked - but older Pokemon games had their Official™ character names picked from the first slot in the optional name menu as well. I could go back and see EXACTLY how each of the names originated, but they have come about in many different ways. We got Leaf from what, internal coding? Anyway, summary: Name Barry is highly implied by Pokemon Co. at this point, no longer just a fan pick. We don't need to pretend to ignore the hints.

There's nothing particularly wrong with it...it's PNG and no matter what, even if we were to use the JPG, it would just be reduced to that size anyway. Well, after I beat him at the Battle Zone the first time I decided to go to the pokémon league so I could train my lv 75 Luxray to lv 100, 2 weeks later my Luxray reached 100 and so I decided to look for Cresselia and Giratina the only 2 non-event legendaries I didnt own and when I caught them I went back to the Battle Zone to challenge him and my lv 100 Luxray was the first one in my party and when the battle started all his pokémon were stronger than before and thats all I recall doing, but if anyone is interested in seeing the match I plan on posting the battle on youtube later this week, so if anyone wants to see it contact my user page and I'll direct you to my user page on youtube, I hope this helps. Also the anime producers seem to be very cautious about how they name characters these days, they don't seem to be throwing darts at a board anymore with this random Satoshi/Kenta stuff. Anyway, I know why the name Pearl was picked - but older Pokemon games had their Official™ character names picked from the first slot in the optional name menu as well. I could go back and see EXACTLY how each of the names originated, but they have come about in many different ways. We got Leaf from what, internal coding? Anyway, summary: Name Barry is highly implied by Pokemon Co. at this point, no longer just a fan pick. We don't need to pretend to ignore the hints.

(I have a topic about this on the BMGf, but I think I should also adress it here.) I think the in-game data should be taken at more value than even Nintnedo's word, or guides (which they apparently have used "Gary" for Blue.) That said, I also don't think we've ever deviated from using a name if the game dosen't randomize it when we enter a blank name in-game.

With Diamond being the 'primary' version, if you enter his name in blank, it comes up as "Pearl". If I'm not mistaken this is exactly how we get Blue's name in the original versions.

I think at this point it's highly implied his intended name is Barry. Back in 2007 Jun seemed to be just a name the fans picked up for the sake of needing a name. Also the anime producers seem to be very cautious about how they name characters these days, they don't seem to be throwing darts at a board anymore with this random Satoshi/Kenta stuff. They're really being careful these days. While it's true Barry (game) does not equal Barry (anime) that doesn't discount it as coming from a very important source that carefully picked the name. Anyway, I know why the name Pearl was picked - but older Pokemon games had their Official™ character names picked from the first slot in the optional name menu as well. I could go back and see EXACTLY how each of the names originated, but they have come about in many different ways. We got Leaf from what, internal coding? Anyway, summary: Name Barry is highly implied by Pokemon Co. at this point, no longer just a fan pick. We don't need to pretend to ignore the hints.

Eh, if you ask me, reprint cards should get their own articles. Also, there are the Game Boy TCG sets, which distributed cards into sets with mixtures of cards from different real sets, along with some Game Boy exclusive cards. I believe the two TCG Game Boy games also had different in-game sets from one another. There are also Japanese-exclusive promo cards that were never numbered. There were also some specially marked cards like the prerelease cards, Pokémon Center marked cards, and Winner symbol cards, odd things like the gold-bordered Jungle Meowth... Oh, and there were some sets of unnumbered promo energy cards too.

As for other things related to the project, the format for the cards could use some working on. Maybe a picture of the whole card instead of the way it is now, to leave more room for other information and make things a bit easier. Also, the earlier sets had Pokédex entries on them, which should be included. Well, I've been thinking over the article naming scheme... I'm thinking that we should use levels instead of set numbers for the older sets that had them. Also, the E-cards should use the ID number that has a letter and a number, seeing as how those stay the same between Japanese and English cards. I'm not too sure what to do for the sets past then, but I think it would be best to use naming schemes that are universal between the Japanese and English cards, to make it easier to deal with differences between the way the sets are set up. As for the article format, I'm working on that a bit right now. It's not really done, but you can get the gist of what it'll look like [[User:Happy_Mask_Man/Sandbox|here]]. I'm not the best at formatting things, so it's not quite polished up yet. Well, some cards only appear in one version of a set, like say, Japanese Fossil set's Mew and English Team Rocket set's Dark Raichu. Since set numbers are set up differently in Japanese and English cards, it would be hard to fit in one of those cards if we used identification that only one language has, whether it be English or Japanese. Would it be a good or bad idea to do a PrevNext thing for the cards within a set, with, of course, multiple ones for cards that were reprinted. Now, of course, I don't mean something like EpisodePrevNext that spans the bottom of the page, but maybe like I have it in the infobox...

And I was also wondering... should we categorize the cards in their sets by the number? I mean, like, for Charizard, categorizing it as a Base Set card and using its card number as its order, so it'd fall between Chansey and Clefairy. I really think it needs to be clear that if any of you guys copy and paste lists from TCG websites, you do some fact checking to make sure it's all right. Some very large and popular ocean-themed TCG sites intentionally put errors all over the place. So if you're going to "borrow" information at least be sure everything is correct. How does this work for the disambig policy?

*All cards, except for energy cards (which are all common and similar enough to just get a TCG tag) will get a TCG ID tag, identifying the set and number of the card.
*In the case that there is only one card of a certain name in the whole TCG, the "Name (TCG)" name will redirect to that single card.
*In the case that there is multiple cards of a certain name in the whole TCG (which is extremely common, as I'm sure you guys know), the "Name (TCG)" name will be a disambig among all the different cards.
*In the case that there is both theme decks and cards of a certain name in the whole TCG (which occurs several time in Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge), the "Name (TCG)" name will be a theme deck, with a separate disambig page for cards with the same name.

Eh, if you ask me, reprint cards should get their own articles. Also, there are the Game Boy TCG sets, which distributed cards into sets with mixtures of cards from different real sets, along with some Game Boy exclusive cards. I believe the two TCG Game Boy games also had different in-game sets from one another. There are also Japanese-exclusive promo cards that were never numbered. There were also some specially marked cards like the prerelease cards, Pokémon Center marked cards, and Winner symbol cards, odd things like the gold-bordered Jungle Meowth... Oh, and there were some sets of unnumbered promo energy cards too.

As for other things related to the project, the format for the cards could use some working on. Maybe a picture of the whole card instead of the way it is now, to leave more room for other information and make things a bit easier. Also, the earlier sets had Pokédex entries on them, which should be included. Well, I've been thinking over the article naming scheme... I'm thinking that we should use levels instead of set numbers for the older sets that had them. Also, the E-cards should use the ID number that has a letter and a number, seeing as how those stay the same between Japanese and English cards. I'm not too sure what to do for the sets past then, but I think it would be best to use naming schemes that are universal between the Japanese and English cards, to make it easier to deal with differences between the way the sets are set up. As for the article format, I'm working on that a bit right now. It's not really done, but you can get the gist of what it'll look like [[User:Happy_Mask_Man/Sandbox|here]]. I'm not the best at formatting things, so it's not quite polished up yet. Well, some cards only appear in one version of a set, like say, Japanese Fossil set's Mew and English Team Rocket set's Dark Raichu. Since set numbers are set up differently in Japanese and English cards, it would be hard to fit in one of those cards if we used identification that only one language has, whether it be English or Japanese. I think it's best to bring it up here, where the issue would be relevant, than elsewhere. We all know Gyarados is Water/Flying, and that Dragon was a type in Generation I. However, I read somewhere (I forget where exactly) that there were only 13 types in the original Red and Green, and that Ice and Dragon were added in Blue. Of course, I theorize that any Ice Pokémon were Water, since that's what they use in the TCG, and that any Dragon Pokémon were Normal. Since the Base Set came out only ten days after Blue was released in Japan, it would make some sense.

After all, look at how many Pokémon from Gen I are Ice only. None. There are several Water/Ice (which I think was because the type was added as an afterthought), and Articuno's the only one where missing the Ice-type would really matter (since there's NEVER a pure Flying-type). Heck, if Articuno was originally Water/Flying (which I suspect), both the beasts and birds would be the same types. The Dratini family were the only Dragon-types, so they could have used Normal instead.

But I do suppose that they wanted Gyarados to have at least something different from Magikarp in Red/Green (if the "Ice and Dragon came later" story is true), so they gave it the Flying-type as its secondary type, and just never changed it because it would alter a lot (and maybe because Kingdra was already in the works). As for why Magnemite and Magneton got Steel? Eh, they're magnet-based. If they didn't get the Steel-type when it was introduced people would be thinking "wow, that was dumb". And they needed to give Jasmine more than just Steelix. Sure, there'd be Skarmory, Forretress, and Scizor otherwise, but jeez. Two are Bug, and one of those is evolved from something Bugsy has, and Skarmory's known to have been a good choice for a long time; they can't make the Gyms too hard.

I can't seem to remove the image from the page due to some kind of database error, but it needs to be taken off. It's pure fanon. There isn't any evidence that Sinnoh is an island though, so each person can make up his/her own mind about whether it is on the same landmass as Kanto/Johto or not until official evidence is revealed.

Hey, I was wondering a few things about the Pokémon Trading Card Game project. See, I don't really think we need to sort the cards in the category by the card number. I've been doing my best to avoid them, you see. See, I've been thinking through the aspects of the project for a while now, and I think that it would be a lot easier to make it work if we avoided using the numbers. I believe I have spoken on this before, but using the numbers would make it a lot harder to keep everything from English and Japanese together.

On another note, thanks for making all of those categories for Pokémon in the TCG. Actually, I was thinking of another idea to further categorize them by Pokémon and by name (for such cards as Blaine's Vulpix), but I thought that it might make too many tiny categories. What do you think about categories for specifically named Pokémon, Trainer Cards, and Energy Cards? I'm thinking of having Trainer Cards and the like have separate articles for the Trainer Card's name and prints of the card. So there would be, say, "Bill (TCG)" and "Bill (Base Set)." If a card said something along the lines of "Search your deck for a card named Bill," it would link to "Bill (TCG)," which would list all cards with that name. :We can find alternatives for the Japanese-only cards, sort them into categories with *'s instead of numbers. But overall, given all the other naming and sorting options, the number system is the best one I've seen that makes any sense and is closest to being universal. I really don't think many people distinguish these cards using the levels written on them, you know? So why should we?
:I think that might make the categories too small, yes. As far as trainer cards... that's a difficult one. On one hand, we should disambig between any cards with the same name and different text... but not reprints of the same card, like every card in Base Set 2... so I do think we should have trainer cards noted by set. But at the same time, if there's only one version of a card ever - there's no reason for a disambig. Like, for example, if besides reprints there's only one Bill (Base Set), Bill (TCG) should just redirect to that.

::Eh, I just prefer the idea of having two set lists in the article on the set and having the category for the set just be organized by alphabetical order. Besides, people usually don't refer to cards by anything but the card's name and set anyway. See, between δ Delta Species Pokémon and the new Pokémon LV.X in the DP series, it seems more convenient to use levels and other universal identification in a particular series. Also, Pokémon Card GB referred to different cards of a Pokémon by their levels.

::Really, I have about all of the TCG organization planned out. Level for original series, e-card ID for e-card series. In the advance series, the only cards that have the same name in the same set are cards that were from Japanese decks that were merged into an English set. Oh, and things like Unown. The DP series brings back levels and introduces a new game mechanic based on them. This organization method is based on universalness. It also helps to better organize cards that switch around from set to set from Japanese to English. As for Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection, since they're total reprint sets, I'm not planning on having separate articles for cards reprinted there. I do plan on having articles for other reprints of cards though. Things a reprint of Potion in some set would get a separate article.

::The only thing that I haven't been completely sure of is making separate articles for Trainer cards that only get one print as the main article for the card and for its print in a set. I've been watching Pokémon Chronicles lately, and something in the episode where Misty takes over as Gym Leader (Cerulean Blues, I think) seems kinda relevant. The Inspectors that are busy closing down various Gyms across Kanto are reported on the news to have closed down several already. If eight badges are a requirement for entering the Indigo League, there must be at least eight still open after those closures, right? That would seem to imply that there were (prior to that episode) several extra Gyms.

Also, in the games the "Fighting Dojo" is supposed to have had Gym status, and recently lost it. Bearing in mind that Sabrina's Gym has a pretty formidable reputation, I doubt its "brand new", in which case I'd espect the Fighting Dojo and Sabrina's Gym to have run simultaneously, at least for a bit. I know the Dojo was never mentioned in the Anime, but maybe one of Gary's badges (or the other trainers') could be from there, or other similar Gyms that were closed down?

Machoke was seen again in Volume 18 as one of Brawly's Pokemon; it is unconfirmed if this Machoke evolved from the Machop he had in Volume 16. Machoke attempted to fight the fiery illusions in Volume 20 at the Lilycove Museum, but failed miserably.
