==Pokémon games==
All [[Pokémon games]] sold in Poland are in English. The games are distributed by Stadlbauer, the official Polish distributor of [[Nintendo]] games and consoles.

==Pokémon anime==
On September 4, 2000, {{wp|Polsat}} started to air the [[Pokémon anime]] on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. The first 104 episodes aired without any breaks until mid 2001. At the end of 2001, the next 52 episodes started to air.

After a short break, ''[[Pokémon: Johto League Champions|Johto League Champions]]'' premiered from September to December 2002. This season was moved to an earlier timeslot, when most Polish children were in school. Likely due to this, and because of a lack of payment to the Polish voice actors, there were no new episodes until 2004.

New episodes were shown on Sunday mornings (and later also on Saturdays) until April 2005. Some of the recurring characters like {{Tracey}}, [[Nurse Joy]] and [[Officer Jenny]] had their voice actors changed in this new season. Shortly after this, at May 19, 2005, {{wp|TV 4 (Poland)|TV 4}} started to air the series and, without any breaks, showed the first 260 episodes, on afternoons from Monday to Thursday, followed by first airing of ''[[Pokémon: Advanced]]'' on September 11, 2006. New episodes ended in December 2006 and only reruns were showun until August 2008.

Reruns of the first three seasons have also aired on Fox Kids (later renamed Jetix) until September 2006. However, this version was censored (compared to the episodes shown by Polsat and TV 4, which were based on the [[4Kids Entertainment|4Kids]] dub) and several scenes were cut.

Jetix started to air brand-new ''[[Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl]]'' episodes on December 1, 2008. This season infamously recast the entire series with completely new voice actors. Airing of this season ended in January 2009 and there have been no reruns since.

In February 2009, Jetix aired the first 26 episodes of ''[[Pokémon Diamond & Pearl: Battle Dimension|Battle Dimension]]'', with most of the original cast restored. The next 13 episodes aired in April. The last 13 episodes were at first planned for May, later moved to August, but ultimately did not air until November 2009 on [[Disney XD]]. The [[M11|eleventh movie]] also premiered in November.

All movies also later aired on HBO and HBO 2 channels. The first movie also aired on Cinemax and Cinemax 2 in 2008 and 2009.

Movies 4, 5, 6 and 7 are often airing on SPI owned channels Filmbox, Filmbox HD, Filmbox Extra and Filmbox Family. However, these movies are not dubbed into Polish, instead there are voice-overs giving Polish translations of the English dub.

== Synopsis ==
Excited about winning his {{Badge|Boulder}}, {{Ash}} couldn't wait to get to [[Cerulean City]] to battle for his {{Badge|Cascade}}. For some reason, though, {{an|Misty}} was trying to avoid entering Cerulean and tried to convince them to go to [[Vermilion City]] but failed, she then left Ash and {{an|Brock}} as they entered the city.

When Ash and Brock entered the city, they saw a big crowd of people in a circle surrounding a building. When they got to the front they saw [[Officer Jenny]], and she accused Ash and Brock of being the criminals. When they proved their innocence, she let them go, and sent the rest of the crowd away. After that, they sat on a bench and Ash asked Brock for inside information on the [[Gym Leader]]. Brock telling him that as a Gym Leader, too, and he cannot give out that information. Then Brock said to him "I have some stuff I need to check out". They split up and Ash headed to the [[Cerulean Gym]] while Brock did his own thing.

When Ash got to the gym, he found three sisters performing underwater. Ash confronted the girls backstage, found out that they are the Gym Leaders and challenged them to a battle. The girls ({{ka|Lily}}, {{an|Daisy}} and [[Violet]]) explained that their Pokémon are too tired to battle, and offered Ash the badge without a battle. Ash was about to take it, when Misty appeared and challenges him.

It turned out that Misty is the youngest of [[Sensational Sisters]], but they called her "the runt". After Misty argues with her sisters, she challenged Ash to an official Cerulean Gym battle with rules of 2 on 2. Ash tried to send out {{AP|Pikachu}} but he refused to go into battle because he didn't want to hurt Misty or her Pokémon. So instead Ash sent out {{AP|Butterfree}} to battle Misty's {{p|Staryu}}. After a quick battle, Butterfree got knocked into the water causing it to lose the battle. After that Misty sent out {{TP|Misty|Starmie}} and Ash sent out {{AP|Pidgeotto}}. Pidgeotto uses {{m|Whirlwind}} on Starmie, but it jumps into the water and attacks Pidgeotto, Pidgeotto uses {{m|Gust}} causing Starmie to hit the wall. Just as Ash is about to win the battle [[Team Rocket]] interrupts and tried to steal all the Water Pokémon and the water from the Gym.

While Team Rocket was stealing all the Water Pokémon by using a vacuum machine, Pikachu got sucked in as well. He released a {{m|Thunderbolt}} causing the machine to explode, sending Team Rocket flying. After Team Rocket is gone, Daisy gave Ash the {{badge|Cascade}}. Misty tried to argue but her sisters convinced her that if Ash used Pikachu from the start, he would have beaten all her water Pokémon. Misty agreed with her sisters and claimed that when she comes back from her journey with Ash she would be a great Trainer. Brock then meets Ash outside of the gym and together they headed for Vermilion City

== Synopsis ==
{{Ash}}, {{an|Misty}} and {{an|Brock}} were hiking toward [[Mt. Moon]]. A meteor called "The {{evostone|Moon Stone}}" crashed into the mountain in prehistoric times. Near the foot of the mountain, they encountered a man being attacked by a flock of {{p|Zubat}}. [[Pokédex|Dexter]] reported that Zubat live in caves and hate to {{m|fly}} outside in daylight.

Misty reminded Ash that the man needed help, and Ash ordered {{AP|Pikachu}} to fire a {{m|ThunderShock}}. The Zubat flew away, and the man, who was wearing a lab coat, squeezed Ash and thanked him profusely. He introduced himself as [[Seymour]] the Scientist. He was upset because someone had strung lights inside the nearby cave, that disrupted the [[Pokémon]] who lived inside - not just the Zubat, but the {{p|Paras}} and {{p|Sandshrew}} as well.

Seymour believed that the attackers were after the Moon Stone. He said that it was a massive boulder, believed to be older than a million years old, and hidden deep in the caves under the mountain. Fragments of the Stone could increase Pokémon's power. Seymour theorized that this was because both the Pokémon came from outer space, and the Moon Stone was their spacecraft - which means the Stone belonged to the Pokémon, and that the humans must leave it alone.

A {{p|Clefairy}} bounced past, carrying something. Seymour stopped Ash from trying to catch it. The Clefairy is trapped by {{MTR}}, who is in turn challenged by Ash. Brock and Ash agreed that they have to stop [[Team Rocket]], before they make any more trouble - which immediately lead to [[James]] and [[Jessie]] reciting their {{motto}}.

Team Rocket freely admitted to putting up the lights; Meowth even says they want a Moon Stone so they can power up their Pokémon. Ash and Brock challenged Jessie and James. Jessie summoned {{TP|Jessie|Ekans}}, while Ash called {{AP|Butterfree}}. James called on {{TP|James|Koffing}}, and Brock used {{TP|Brock|Zubat}}, which he said he captured just before they entered the cave.

James ordered Koffing to generate a {{m|Smog}} attack. Ash countered with Butterfree's {{m|Whirlwind}}, and Brock asks Zubat to use {{m|Double Team}}; the two Pokémon turned the Smog back on Team Rocket, to their surprise.

Misty and Seymour made a run for it as Ekans attacked Butterfree and Koffing slammed Zubat. Brock told Zubat to "go {{m|Supersonic}}!" The high-pitched signal confused Koffing and Ekans, and they attacked each other. Ash asked Butterfree for another Whirlwind, hoping to "blow them all the way out of the cave!" Team Rocket flew away again, but Brock and Ash suddenly realized they had lost track of Meowth.

Misty and Seymour had been following the Clefairy, which made its way out of the cave. They followed it up the mountain, where Meowth was waiting for them. He demanded the Moon Stone. Misty summoned her {{TP|Misty|Staryu}} by dropping it's [[Poké Ball]] into the river. She ordered a {{m|Swift}} attack, followed immediately by a {{m|Water Gun}}. The water stream hit Meowth in the face; he rapidly filled up with water, then flew away like a balloon as the water is expelled from his mouth.

Brock fed all the Pokémon his special, secret recipe [[Pokémon food#In the anime|Pokémon food]]. Seymour tasted it and deemed it "not bad;" Ash followed suit and found it awful! Meanwhile, Clefairy and Pikachu were having a conversation on a nearby rock. They hopped away, followed by the rest of the group.

They arrive at another cave, where they found the core of the Moon Stone. Clefairy added its stone to the ring at the base of the core, which completed the circuit. All the small stones, then the large core, began to glow blue in the moonlight. Dozens of Clefairy approached and began to dance around the Moon Stone. Misty, Ash and Brock play "charades" with Pikachu to learn that the Clefairy were praying to the Stone. Seymour concluded that humans are supposed to ride the Stone back out to the stars, but his rapture is interrupted by the return of Team Rocket.

Seymour attacked Team Rocket to keep them from the Stone, but Meowth tripped him and took him out of the action because his glasses fell off. Ash attacked with Pikachu, while Brock summoned {{TP|Brock|Onix}}; as usual, Jessie and James called on Ekans and Koffing again. Jessie ordered a {{m|Dig}} attack, and James orders up a {{m|SmokeScreen}}. Ash then summoned {{AP|Pidgeotto}} and ordered it to Whirlwind the smoke away. When the smoke cleared, Team Rocket was gone, and the Moon Stone with them.

Brock ordered Onix to Dig and follow them underground, while the humans and other Pokémon ran through the caves. One of the Clefairy retrieved Seymour's glasses for him.

Team Rocket was sliding downhill with the Stone on a sledge. Onix appeared suddenly, upsetting the sledge. Onix attempted to {{m|Tackle}} Team Rocket, but Koffing countered, and both Pokémon fell, stunned. Seymour and the Clefairy appeared from Onix's tunnel. The Clefairy used a {{m|Metronome}} attack to {{m|Hypnosis|hypnotize}} the humans, then what appeared to be a {{m|Hyper Beam}} sent Team Rocket flying off once more.

Chips of the Moon Stone drifted down from the sky; as they landed on the Clefairy, they [[Evolution|evolved]] into {{p|Clefable}}. Seymour stayed with the Clefairy and Clefable, hoping to someday visit outer space with them.

Ash, Misty and Brock moved on toward [[Cerulean City]]. Gary had left a graffiti on the sign saying, "Gary was here! Ash is a loser!" Ash took off down the road at a run as the episode ended.

== Synopsis ==
{{Ash}} effortlessly {{pkmn2|caught|catches}} the {{AP|Caterpie}} he tossed a [[Poké Ball]] at in [[EP002|the last episode]]. {{an|Misty}} shows her complete dismay at it as she fears {{type2|Bug}} [[Pokémon]].

Even before the celebrations for Ash catching his first Pokémon could start, he spots yet another Pokémon, a {{p|Pidgeotto}}. Ash sends out his Caterpie to weaken the {{type2|Flying}} Pokémon, but having a [[Elemental type|type]] [[Damage modification|advantage]] over Caterpie, Pidgeotto easily [[Unable to battle|defeats]] it with a {{m|Peck}} [[Move|attack]]. Misty then tells Ash that Bug-types are weak to Flying-types and so, Ash uses his {{AP|Pikachu}}. Pikachu uses {{m|Thunderbolt}} on Pidgeotto, knocking it out, and Ash easily makes {{AP|his second capture|Pidgeotto}}.

[[Team Rocket]] then arrive on scene and attack the [[twerp]]s. Ash sends out Pidgeotto and Pikachu to battle, but {{TP|Jessie|Ekans}} and {{TP|James|Koffing}} manage to defeat them. Ash is then compelled to use his Caterpie. [[Jessie]] and [[James]] make fun of the caterpillar Pokémon, but it actually manages to defeat Ekans and Koffing with a {{m|String Shot}}! Team Rocket then call a full retreat and run away with {{MTR}} in tow. Misty is about to try and get over her phobia by petting Caterpie (on Ash's request) when suddenly, Caterpie starts covering itself in a cocoon. It then starts to grow, and finally, becomes a {{AP|Metapod}}!

Ash and Misty then continue their journey through the forest to [[Pewter City]] with two new friends - Metapod and Pidgeotto.

== Synopsis ==
The episode opens with [[Team Rocket]] digging a hole. After covering it, they forget exactly where the hole was dug and look around only to fall into it themselves.

Meanwhile, {{Ash}}, {{an|Misty}} and {{AP|Pikachu}} have reached the edge of the [[Viridian Forest]] and arrive on the outskirts of [[Pewter City]]. Ash is tired enough that he decides to take a rest on some conveniently placed rocks. However, a nearby man tells him that there is a fee for sitting on the rocks. His name is {{ka|Flint}}, and he is trying to sell rocks as souvenirs. Neither Ash nor Misty are interested.

They head to the [[Pokémon Center]] where Ash is surprised to encounter [[Nurse Joy]]. She explains that she is not the [[Viridian City]] Joy as Ash was obviously inclined to believe, but her older sister. She then shows Ash a poster promoting a tournament called the [[Pokémon League]] Championship and he decides to sign up. Before he can enter, however, he needs to defeat eight Pokémon [[Gym Leader]]s and earn from each a [[Gym Badge]] as proof of his victory. Flint walks in at this point and tells Ash about Pewter City's Gym Leader, {{an|Brock}}. He is openly skeptical of Ash's chances of winning, and laughs scornfully at the very thought of it.

Later, Ash and Misty discuss the situation over a meal and she warns Ash that Gym Leaders are much tougher than the average trainer. She offers to help him out, but he declines. This upsets her and she storms out of the restaurant, leaving Ash with the bill.

Ash stops by the Pokémon Center again to pick up his healed [[party|team]] before making his way to the [[Pewter Gym|Gym]]. Upon arriving he and Pikachu walk inside, only to find the interior pitch black. As Ash calls out a spotlight switches on to reveal the Gym Leader, Brock, sitting cross-legged on a platform. Ash challenges Brock, who then goes over the official rules and declares that each trainer may only use two Pokémon in the match. He stands up and asks about Ash's Pikachu, calling it cute but no match for him.

Despite this, Ash begins the match with Pikachu while Brock starts off with {{TP|Brock|Onix}}. Pikachu is understandably intimidated by the giant {{t|rock}} Pokémon and tries to convince Ash to send out {{AP|Pidgeotto}} instead. Ash responds by telling Pikachu that this is its battle, and commands it to use {{m|ThunderShock}}. The {{t|electric}} attack is woefully ineffective and Brock commands Onix to counter with {{m|Bind}}. It begins to crush Pikachu, inflicting very visible pain. This prompts Ash to recall Pikachu, only to have the attempt thwarted by the larger Pokémon's bulk. Ash cannot bear to watch his friend suffer any more agony, and forfeits the match.

As the dejected Ash leaves the Gym he encounters Flint, who suggests that he follow him to his home. Ash agrees, and over a batch of tea they discuss what happened in the Gym. Flint notices that Ash is obviously upset over his loss, so he consoles him with the knowledge that Brock could be an even better trainer than he already is. Confused, Ash asks why Brock is not living up to his potential. Flint decides to let Ash see for himself rather than explain.

Flint leads Ash outside and gestures across the way to another house. The two watch as Brock, in a pink apron, cares for his [[Brock's siblings|nine little brothers and sisters]]. As they walk away Flint explains that after Brock's good-for-nothing father left home to become a Pokémon trainer his heartbroken mother abandoned them, leaving the eldest Brock to take care of his siblings. Ash empathizes with Brock, but is determined to defeat him. Flint recognizes that determination and mentions that he might know of a way Ash can super-charge Pikachu.

They go to a hydro-electric plant where Flint hooks up the generator to the electric sacs in Pikachu's cheeks. As the river is bone-dry, Ash must run on a large water wheel to generate the electricity, which flows into Pikachu. Misty shows up and offers to lend Ash her {{type2|Water}} Pokémon, but Ash refuses, wanting to defeat Brock with his own team. He continues charging Pikachu until the generator overloads and Pikachu's electricity lights up the the night sky.

The next day, Ash returns with confidence to the Pewter City Gym for a rematch. Brock was also confident from the last battle, and the two quickly start the rematch. Brock sends out {{TP|Brock|Geodude}}, while Ash sends out {{AP|Pidgeotto}}. However, the {{type2|Flying}} can't seem to harm the Rock-type, so Ash recalls him and sent out Pikachu. Misty is seen in the rafters, cheering for Ash, only to be crowded by Brock's siblings.

Brock comments on how weak Pikachu and Ash were, and Ash retorts by commanding Pikachu's attack, which easily knocks Geodude down. Both Brock and Misty are stunned, staring open-mouthed. Brock recalls his Geodude and sends out Onix, and a fearful Pikachu tries to do another Electric attack, damaging the gym itself instead. Onix wraps Pikachu with Bind, but Pikachu makes a comeback with his new attack, {{m|Thunderbolt}}, which manages to hurt Onix but still couldn't take it out. Just as Pikachu is about to pass out, Brock suddenly spares it by calling Onix off. He tells Ash to forfeit again, not wanting to cause further damage to Pikachu. Ash protests, wanting to fight the match to the end.

Suddenly, the gym's sprinklers are set off by a fire caused by Pikachu's earlier Electric attack. Water sprays all over Onix, weakening him and allowing Pikachu to fight back with another Electric attack. Just as Ash is about to command Pikachu to finish Onix off, he finds he can't move. Brock's brothers and sisters are all holding Ash in place, which Ash believes was his conscience. Brock orders his brothers and sisters to not get involved, but they protest, knowing that Brock's love of Pokémon made it painful for him to continue the match and watch his Onix get hurt further.

Ash calls back his Pikachu. He explains that if he defeated Brock now, it would only be because of the sprinklers being set off. He decides he wants to win his badge fair and square, much to Misty's disappointment since he is giving up a lucky advantage.

Ash left the Pewter Gym, and on his way out of Pewter City, he apologizes to Pikachu for being so tough. He hears someone calling him, and turns to find Brock running to catch up with him and give him the {{Badge|Boulder}}. Ash says he can't accept the badge, but Brock insists Ash earned it through his kindness to Pokémon. Brock continues to explain that rather than becoming a great Pokémon trainer, his dream is to become a Pokémon breeder, but can't do so because of his family duties. He gives Ash the badge, and asks him to fulfill his dream, and Ash agrees.

Suddenly, Flint shows up again, and reveals that he is Brock's "good-for-nothing" father. He explains that he didn't want to return to his family as a failure of a Pokémon trainer. Ash puzzles over the fact that Flint helped him instead of his son, Brock, and Flint explains that Ash's helplessness reminded him of himself. Flint was ready to take back the responsibilities he abandoned, which Brock returns to him, along with a long list of tasks for him to remember while taking care of the children.

That evening, Ash and Brock travel on the road out of Pewter City. Brock asks to make sure it's okay that he joins Ash on his Pokémon journey, and Ash insists that he is glad to have him along. However, Misty is a different story, and from several paces behind she yells at him to not forget about her [[bicycle|bike]]. Ash and Pikachu try to ditch Misty, followed by Brock and the angry girl herself.

Team Rocket show up at the end for a final cameo, trampled by {{ashfr|Ash and his friends}} as they run over the hole in the ground, unaware of the people underfoot.

This is the first of many times Pikachu's Electric attacks [[Anime physics|defy type match-ups]] to change the results of the battle.

* Instead of saying Brock's mother left the family to Brock's care, Flint tells Ash that she died after trying to raise the family on her own. == Synopsis ==
{{Ash}}, {{an|Misty}} and {{AP|Pikachu}} continue their travel through the [[Viridian Forest]] on the way to [[Pewter City]]. Suddenly, Ash spots a {{p|Weedle}} and decides to catch it. He tries to use Pikachu against it, but it is more interested in sleeping than {{pkmn|battle|battling}}, so he sends out his {{AP|Pidgeotto}}. Pidgeotto manages to defeat Weedle but just when Ash is about to toss a [[Poké Ball]] to capture it, a person dressed as a [[samurai]] arrives on scene. The samurai asks Misty if she is from [[Pallet Town]] and when she replies in the negative, he turns to Ash. The {{pkmn2|wild}} Weedle escapes and the samurai rebukes Ash for it. The two then engage themselves in a Pokémon battle.

Ash uses his Pidgeotto and the samurai battles with his {{p|Pinsir}}. The two battle for some time and finally, Pinsir manages to defeat Pidgeotto. Ash then sends out his {{AP|Metapod}}. Metapod breaks Pinsir's pincers with {{m|Harden}} and wins the round. The samurai then sends out his {{p|Metapod}}! The two Metapod continue to harden themselves leading Misty and Pikachu to wonder whether the match would ever finish. Suddenly, a swarm of {{p|Beedrill}} arrive and lift Ash's Metapod away. The samurai takes Ash, Misty and their other Pokémon to a safe place.

In the samurai's hiding place, the samurai furiously rebukes Ash for putting his Metapod in danger. Ash kept mum and promises to himself that he would find Metapod the next day and look after it from then on. During the night, he is unable to sleep and can only think about his Metapod.

The next day, the group start their search for Metapod. They soon find it on a tree among many {{p|Kakuna}}. Ash joyously goes to Metapod to take him back in his team but upon seeing a look of sorrow in Metapod's eyes he realizes that he has lost its trust. Ash attempts to explain what happened, saying that losing Metapod was all Samurai's fault. However suddenly Ash knows that he's lying to himself as well as Metapod and comes to the realisation that losing Metapod was all his fault and no-one else's. Ash is upset at realising his carelessness put his Pokémon's life in danger and tearfully apologizes to Metapod and sincerely promises to take better care of it, regaining its trust. With its faith renewed, Metapod saves him from an attacking Beedrill. It then starts glowing and [[Evolution|evolves]] into {{AP|Butterfree}}. Ash happily looks at his first fully-evolved Pokémon and even Misty doesn't feel her normal fear of {{t|bug}}s, going so far as to call it beautiful.

Ash and the others are then once again attacked by the swarm of Beedrill, but this time, Ash is prepared for them. He orders his newly evolved Butterfree to use {{m|Sleep Powder}}, which puts the bee-like Pokémon to sleep. They then escape from the area.

Later, Ash and Samurai part as friends, but promise to battle again. He and Misty then go on and finally reach the end of the Viridian Forest. Ash runs at full speed towards [[Pewter City]] to earn his first [[Gym]] [[Badge]], with Misty close behind.

== Synopsis ==
{{Ash}} effortlessly {{pkmn2|caught|catches}} the {{AP|Caterpie}} he tossed a [[Poké Ball]] at in [[EP002|the last episode]]. {{an|Misty}} shows her complete dismay at it as she fears {{type2|Bug}} [[Pokémon]].

Even before the celebrations for Ash catching his first Pokémon could start, he spots yet another Pokémon, a {{p|Pidgeotto}}. Ash sends out his Caterpie to weaken the {{type2|Flying}} Pokémon, but having a [[Elemental type|type]] [[Damage modification|advantage]] over Caterpie, Pidgeotto easily [[Unable to battle|defeats]] it with a {{m|Peck}} [[Move|attack]]. Misty then tells Ash that Bug-types are weak to Flying-types and so, Ash uses his {{AP|Pikachu}}. Pikachu uses {{m|Thunderbolt}} on Pidgeotto, knocking it out, and Ash easily makes {{AP|his second capture|Pidgeotto}}.

[[Team Rocket]] then arrive on scene and attack the [[twerp]]s. Ash sends out Pidgeotto and Pikachu to battle, but {{TP|Jessie|Ekans}} and {{TP|James|Koffing}} manage to defeat them. Ash is then compelled to use his Caterpie. [[Jessie]] and [[James]] make fun of the caterpillar Pokémon, but it actually manages to defeat Ekans and Koffing with a {{m|String Shot}}! Team Rocket then call a full retreat and run away with {{MTR}} in tow. Misty is about to try and get over her phobia by petting Caterpie (on Ash's request) when suddenly, Caterpie starts covering itself in a cocoon. It then starts to grow, and finally, becomes a {{AP|Metapod}}!

Ash and Misty then continue their journey through the forest to [[Pewter City]] with two new friends - Metapod and Pidgeotto.

== Synopsis ==
After battling with the {{p|Spearow}}, {{AP|Pikachu}} was badly injured. {{Ash}} was told by {{an|Misty}} about a place where he could take Pikachu to be healed, a [[Pokémon Center]]. They go to the [[Viridian City]] Pokémon Center to be healed. When he enters the town, Ash is stopped by [[Officer Jenny]], who found him suspicious, due to the fact he was carrying Pikachu in his arms and not a [[Poké Ball]], but Ash confirms his identity with his [[Pokédex]]. Jenny rushes Ash to the Pokémon Center. Misty enters in the Pokémon Center with her destroyed bike, angry because it was Ash's Pikachu that destroyed it. Ash explains that Pikachu was injured badly, and Misty forgot about her bike and instead thought of Pikachu. As Pikachu is treated, Ash feels crestfallen and calls home. His [[Delia Ketchum|mother]] tries to encourage him, but he still feels downtrodden. He is then called by [[Professor Oak]] who is surprised that he reached Viridian so soon. Ash then tells him about [[Ho-Oh (anime)|the golden colored flying Pokémon he saw earlier]] (in the [[EP001|last episode]]). Oak feels that he is lying because many trainers have never seen that Pokémon even after they searched for it during their whole life. They then exchange good wishes and hung up.

Meanwhile, two "wanted" posters are revealed, showing the pictures of two "Most Wanted Criminals", [[Jessie]] and [[James]] of [[Team Rocket]]. The two trouble makers spot the posters and swear vengeance on Viridian for putting up wanted posters of them. Their ally {{MTR}} is then revealed to be their [[Pokémon]].

While Pikachu is being treated, Team Rocket attack the Pokémon Center with the intent of stealing the Pokémon inside. The Center's [[Nurse Joy]] tries to transfer all the Pokémon to the safety of the [[Pewter City]] Pokémon Center because it is an emergency. Team Rocket use their [[Jessie's Arbok|Ekans]] and [[James's Weezing|Koffing]] to wreak havoc in the Center. However, just then Pikachu somehow manages to revive itself and along with the other Pikachu from the Center's back-up power generator, {{m|ThunderShock}} Team Rocket away.

Officer Jenny arrives too late as Team Rocket manage to escape in their Meowth shaped balloon. They agree that Pikachu would make a great gift for their [[Giovanni|boss]] and decide to steal it when the chance comes.

Ash leaves Viridian City and heads for the [[Viridian Forest]] with a revived relation with Pikachu and Misty in tow. Spotting a {{p|Caterpie}}, he attempts to capture it.

== Synopsis ==
After battling with the {{p|Spearow}}, {{AP|Pikachu}} was badly injured. {{Ash}} was told by {{an|Misty}} about a place where he could take Pikachu to be healed, a [[Pokémon Center]]. They go to the [[Viridian City]] Pokémon Center to be healed. When he enters the town, Ash is stopped by [[Officer Jenny]], who found him suspicious, due to the fact he was carrying Pikachu in his arms and not a [[Poké Ball]], but Ash confirms his identity with his [[Pokédex]]. Jenny rushes Ash to the Pokémon Center. Misty enters in the Pokémon Center with her destroyed bike, angry because it was Ash's Pikachu that destroyed it. Ash explains that Pikachu was injured badly, and Misty forgot about her bike and instead thought of Pikachu. As Pikachu is treated, Ash feels crestfallen and calls home. His [[Delia Ketchum|mother]] tries to encourage him, but he still feels downtrodden. He is then called by [[Professor Oak]] who is surprised that he reached Viridian so soon. Ash then tells him about [[Ho-Oh (anime)|the golden colored flying Pokémon he saw earlier]] (in the [[EP001|last episode]]). Oak feels that he is lying because many trainers have never seen that Pokémon even after they searched for it during their whole life. They then exchange good wishes and hung up.

Meanwhile, two "wanted" posters are revealed, showing the pictures of two "Most Wanted Criminals", [[Jessie]] and [[James]] of [[Team Rocket]]. The two trouble makers spot the posters and swear vengeance on Viridian for putting up wanted posters of them. Their ally {{MTR}} is then revealed to be their [[Pokémon]].

While Pikachu is being treated, Team Rocket attack the Pokémon Center with the intent of stealing the Pokémon inside. The Center's [[Nurse Joy]] tries to transfer all the Pokémon to the safety of the [[Pewter City]] Pokémon Center because it is an emergency. Team Rocket use their [[Jessie's Arbok|Ekans]] and [[James's Weezing|Koffing]] to wreak havoc in the Center. However, just then Pikachu somehow manages to revive itself and along with the other Pikachu from the Center's back-up power generator, {{m|ThunderShock}} Team Rocket away.

Officer Jenny arrives too late as Team Rocket manage to escape in their Meowth shaped balloon. They agree that Pikachu would make a great gift for their [[Giovanni|boss]] and decide to steal it when the chance comes.

Ash leaves Viridian City and heads for the [[Viridian Forest]] with a revived relation with Pikachu and Misty in tow. Spotting a {{p|Caterpie}}, he attempts to capture it.

==Synopsis==
The episode begins the same way as [[Pokémon Red and Blue Versions|Pokémon Red]], down to the style of the images and the sound. A {{p|Nidorino}} and a {{p|Gengar}} are exchanging attacks in a {{pkmn|battle}}. After Nidorino dodges Gengar's attack, it leaps at it. At the same time, the [[Pokémon games|game]] starts to come to life, with the small frame enlarging into the entire screen, and the monochrome [[Pokémon]] fading into color.

The two are battling in a stadium at the [[Pokémon League]], watched by crowds of fans. Gengar dodges Nidorino's {{m|Horn Attack}}, and then jumps on its head to make an opening to put it to sleep with {{m|Hypnosis}}. As Nidorino falls {{status|Sleep|asleep}}, its {{pkmn|Trainer}} recalls it into its [[Poké Ball]], and then throws out another to take its place. The Gengar jumps back as an {{p|Onix}} comes out. It tries to {{m|Tackle}} into Gengar face-first, but misses and hits the battlefield instead. It pulls back up, unfazed.

This battle is being watched on television by a boy from [[Pallet Town]] named [[Ash Ketchum]]. He is now ten years old, which means he can become a [[Pokémon Trainer]]. Tomorrow, he will receive a [[starter Pokémon]] from [[Professor Oak]] and start his Pokémon journey, the first step on the long quest of his dream of becoming a [[Pokémon master]].

His mother enters the room and reminds him that it is 11 o'clock at night, and that he should be asleep. He complains that he is too excited to fall asleep. As a compromise, his mother changes his television's channel to [[Professor Oak's lecture]], and tells him to go to bed when the program is finished.

That night, he dreams about the starter Pokémon as he tries to decide which one he wants. First, he dreams of choosing and sending out {{p|Bulbasaur}}, and then {{p|Squirtle}}. The night turns to morning, and Ash, still in bed, dreams about if he chose {{p|Charmander}}. Suddenly, he bolts awake to find that he threw his {{p|Voltorb}}-shaped alarm clock in his sleep, and it had smashed against the wall. Afraid that he might have overslept, Ash bolted out of his house in his pajamas and runs as fast as he can to [[Professor Oak's Laboratory]].

Outside the laboratory, a crowd of people had gathered, including a group of {{TP|Gary|cheerleaders}}. Ash pushes through and bumps into his [[rival]], which is the grandson of the professor, [[Gary Oak]]. Gary taunts him for being late. He tells Ash that he has already received his starter Pokémon from his grandfather. He boasts to the crowd that he will make Pallet Town famous by becoming a Pokémon master. Ash, however, is more interested in finding out what starter Gary chose. Gary tells him that it was the best one, and then leaves in a red sports car, followed by the crowd.

Before Ash can say anything about how upset he was by his rival, Professor Oak approaches him. Ash drops his anger and asks about getting a Pokémon. Professor Oak seems doubtful that he's ready, since he showed up in his pajamas, but Ash insists that he's ready.

Inside Oak's laboratory, three Poké Balls were set up on a storage device, with a place for a fourth in the center. Ash decides that he would like to start with Squirtle, but when he opens the Poké Ball, he found that it was empty. Professor Oak tells him it was taken by a [[Gary Oak|Trainer who wasn't late]]. After this, he decides he'd like Bulbasaur, but this Poké Ball is also empty. He has no choice but to go for the last choice, Charmander, but the final Poké Ball is also empty. The three were all taken by Trainers who arrived on time, and it seems that there is no Pokémon left for Ash.

Professor Oak mentions that he has another Pokémon, but that there was a problem with it. Ash wants it anyway. In the fourth spot in the middle, a Poké Ball appears that has a lightning bolt mark on it. He picks it up and hands it to Ash. The ball opens, and in a burst of lighting, {{p|Pikachu}} comes out of the ball. Ash loves the cute Pokémon, and picks it up and hugs it. Pikachu doesn't like this, and shocks him with an {{t|Electric}} attack. Oak hands him a [[Pokédex]] and six Poké Balls, but gets shocked as well when he touches Ash.

When Ash steps outside the laboratory, he finds a small crowd had gathered as well, including his mother, who is sad to see him leaving. She gives him his [[bag]] full of supplies, and starts explaining everything she packed for him. He gets embarrassed and pulls it away. She sees Pikachu, and wonders why it isn't in its Poké Ball. He tries to get it in, but it hits the ball back every time. Ash says that they are friends, despite Pikachu's behavior. His mother calls it weird, and in anger, it shocks the entire crowd (excluding Professor Oak) with its electricity.

Soon, Ash sets off, trying to get a handle on the rebellious Pokémon by wearing rubber gloves and dragging it with a clothesline leash. After getting tired of dragging it along, he tries to talk to it and find out what is wrong, only to find out that Pikachu can't say anything but its name. He tries to convince it to get back in its Poké Ball, and pulls out his new Pokédex for information on it. His Pokédex explains that Pokémon must be kept in the Poké Ball. Then Pikachu clicks it and it explains that not all Pokémon like to be kept in Poké Balls. Ash decides to earn Pikachu's trust by treating it nicely, and he unties the clothesline and takes off his rubber gloves. Pikachu turns away.

Then, a {{p|Pidgey}} walks out near them, and Ash scans it with his Pokédex for more information. He is eager to catch it, however, Pikachu doesn't want to help him and instead, runs up a tree. Frustrated, Ash decides to try and catch the Pidgey without Pikachu's help. He throws a Poké Ball at it, but the Pidgey breaks out easily. The Pokédex explaines that a Pokémon should be weakened before it can be caught. Pikachu laughs at Ash. He tries again. This time, he attempts to throw his pajama shirt on top of the Pidgey, but the bird blows him off with a {{m|Gust}} and then hits him with a {{m|Sand-Attack}} before it flies away. Pikachu laughs at Ash more. Ash turns and sees that a {{p|Rattata}} is digging through his bag. He scans it with his Pokédex, which mentions that Rattata is a forest Pokémon. Just as Ash questions why it came out into the field, the Pokédex explains that it sometimes leaves its habitat to steal from ''stupid'' travelers. Pikachu laughs at Ash even more.

Ash turns and notices a group of Pidgey in the field. He throws a rock at them, which only scares them away. However, he sees another bird Pokémon in the field and throws another rock at it, which hits it in the back of its head. When it turns to look at him, however, he realized that he didn't hit a Pidgey; he scans it with his Pokédex and learns that it is a {{p|Spearow}}, which is considerably less friendly than a Pidgey. The Spearow swoops several times to attack him, and then spots and targets Pikachu instead. The Pokédex explains that wild Pokémon are sometimes jealous of trained Pokémon. Just as the Spearow is about to knock Pikachu out of the tree, Pikachu shocks it with an Electric attack, knocking it out of the sky.

The Spearow, however, cries for help, and Ash and Pikachu start running away from a flock of angry Spearow. Pikachu ran ahead of Ash, and the Spearow fly after it, attacking it until it fell to the ground. The Spearow start swarming around it, but Ash grabs his injured Pikachu and runs straight to a waterfall. He jumps into the river below to escape the Spearow, and is being dragged into a large pond, narrowly swimming out of the path of a {{p|Gyarados}}.

On the shore of this pond, a {{an|Misty|girl}} is [[fishing]], and is excited to find that she had a bite. However, instead of a {{type2|Water}} Pokémon, she pulls out Ash and Pikachu. She doesn't care about Ash, but is very concerned about the injured Pokémon in his arms. She tells him that he needs to take it to the [[Pokémon Center]] in [[Viridian City]], and points out the way to go. However, he hears the distant cries of Spearow, and turns to see the flock in the sky, flying toward him. He steals the girl's [[bicycle|bike]], putting the Pikachu in its basket, and rides away, promising that he would bring it back someday. The girl screams at him as he rides away, but he ignores her.

He quickly starts to ride to Viridian City, with storm clouds above him and the tens of Spearow in close pursuit. Soon, it starts to rain. He rides the bike over a ledge, and it falls on its side, which knocks Ash and Pikachu off. Ash finds himself looking at his injured Pikachu lying on the ground, with the Spearow approaching and the storm growing worse. Desperate to save his Pokémon, he leaves Pikachu's Poké Ball next to it, and then stands before the Spearow, telling them to attack him in order to give Pikachu time to get inside its ball where it would be safe. However, just as the Spearow are about to dive on Ash, Pikachu leaps up and over Ash's shoulder. It jumps at the flock of Spearow. The lightning from the storm is drawn to Pikachu, highly raising its potential and strength by vast amounts, and it uses a massive electrical attack to take out the entire flock, as well as the girl's bike. Pikachu is drained of stamina from the effort.

Once the storm has cleared, Ash and Pikachu both rise from where they were knocked back on the ground, exhausted but victorious. Ash looks up and sees {{an|Ho-Oh|an unknown Pokémon}} majestically flying through the sky, over the rainbow that had been left after the storm, but his Pokédex could not identify the species.

He continues on, carrying his new friend Pikachu, who licks him while in his arms as he walks the rest of the way to Viridian City, knowing that something big is ahead of him; something to fight for.

The Pokémon franchise first reached '''{{wp|Italy}}''' on January 7, 2000, with the first broadcast of [[EP001]] in Italian on Italia 1.

==Pokémon anime==
[[File:Italia1.PNG|thumb|left|150px|Italia 1 logo]]On January 7th, 2000, '''Italia 1''' ('''Italia Uno'''), a commercial Italian TV channel owned by {{wp|Mediaset}}, started airing the [[Pokémon anime]] from Mondays to Fridays every afternoon, around 5 P.M. The series that year was successful in Italy and it was also broadcast at prime time on Saturdays. From the [[Johto League Champions|fourth season]] on, however, Pokémon lost more and more Italian fans. On Christmas 2001 it was even suspended for one year, possibly for dub problems, and when in the end of 2002 it started again, its popularity was even lower.

In 2003, ''[[Pokémon: Master Quest]]'' began around 4 P.M. With this fifth series, Italia 1 chose to divide the episodes into two halves for the premiere, creating, in this way, two 10-minutes episodes broadcast from Monday through Friday. However, when the episodes were re-aired, they were transmitted fully. Nevertheless, Pokémon started being broadcast later and later ([[Pokémon: Advanced]] at 4:30 P.M., [[Pokémon: Advanced Challenge]] at 5 P.M.) until the [[Pokémon: Advanced Battle|eighth season]] started to be broadcast at 6 P.M., always for ten minutes on February 2006. After a few months, Pokémon was moved to Saturdays and Sundays, imitating the TV schedule of [[Kids' WB!]]. The main problem facing this was that Italian children attend school on Saturdays. Due to this choice, some Italian Pokémon sites chose to make together a petition against Italia 1. Perhaps because of this petition or maybe due to the lower audience, Pokémon returned in the afternoon at 5:15 P.M.

With the beginning of ''[[Pokémon Chronicles]]'', however, the show was broadcast once again in the weekend, although later in the morning. The same happened for ''[[Pokémon: Battle Frontier]]'', which was not only was transmitted in the weekends, but also for 10 minutes only. In Summer 2007, Pokémon landed every morning at 8:30 A.M. In September 2007, Italia 1 decided on give another chance to the show and, exploiting the success of {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}, Pokémon came back in the afternoon with the new series, ''[[Diamond & Pearl series|Pokémon: Diamante e Perla]]''. The first episodes were successful, similar to the ones of the first seasons, but after a few episodes the success decreased, and so in January 2008 "Diamante e Perla" went back to the weekend.

Only the first five [[Pokémon movies]] of the [[original series]] have been released in Italy so far. On February 28, March 6 and 13 2004, the first three movies were supposed to be broadcast, for the first time on TV, on Italy 1 in prime time. However, due to the low audience, only the first two movies aired. One year later, finally, the [[M03|third one]] was broadcast, this time on Sunday afternoon. From that day, however, the films have not been transmitted anymore. Some sources affirm that Mediaset has treated for getting the rights of transmission of the all first ten movies.

In 2009, Walt Disney Company's channel, Jetix, obtained the rights for broadcasting the [[Pokémon Diamond & Pearl: Battle Dimension|eleventh season]].

===Music===
Traditionally, Mediaset, since its origins, has always created openings for cartoons and anime, some independent from the Japanese and North American opening themes. For Pokémon, nine themes have been made (for the first ten seasons and for Pokémon Chronicles). For [[Pokémon: Advanced]] & [[Pokémon: Advanced Challenge]], and for [[Pokémon: Advanced Battle]] & [[Pokémon: Battle Frontier]], the same opening themes have been used. This makes Italy one of only two known countries outside of Japan and the United States to create original music for the Pokémon anime, the other being China.

==Pokémon anime==

The series that year was successful in Italy and it was also broadcast at prime time on Saturdays. From the [[Johto League Champions|fourth season]] on, however, Pokémon lost more and more Italian fans. On Christmas 2001 it was even suspended for one year, possibly for dub problems, and when in the end of 2002 it started again, its popularity was even lower.

In 2003, ''[[Pokémon: Master Quest]]'' began around 4 P.M. With this fifth series, Italia 1 chose to divide the episodes into two halves for the premiere, creating, in this way, two 10-minutes episodes broadcast from Monday through Friday. However, when the episodes were re-aired, they were transmitted fully. Nevertheless, Pokémon started being broadcast later and later ([[Pokémon: Advanced]] at 4:30 P.M., [[Pokémon: Advanced Challenge]] at 5 P.M.) until the [[Pokémon: Advanced Battle|eighth season]] started to be broadcast at 6 P.M., always for ten minutes on February 2006. After a few months, Pokémon was moved to Saturdays and Sundays, imitating the TV schedule of [[Kids' WB!]]. The main problem facing this was that Italian children attend school on Saturdays. Due to this choice, some Italian Pokémon sites chose to make together a petition against Italia 1. Perhaps because of this petition or maybe due to the lower audience, Pokémon returned in the afternoon at 5:15 P.M.

With the beginning of ''[[Pokémon Chronicles]]'', however, the show was broadcast once again in the weekend, although later in the morning. The same happened for ''[[Pokémon: Battle Frontier]]'', which was not only was transmitted in the weekends, but also for 10 minutes only. In Summer 2007, Pokémon landed every morning at 8:30 A.M. In September 2007, Italia 1 decided on give another chance to the show and, exploiting the success of {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}, Pokémon came back in the afternoon with the new series, ''[[Diamond & Pearl series|Pokémon: Diamante e Perla]]''. The first episodes were successful, similar to the ones of the first seasons, but after a few episodes the success decreased, and so in January 2008 "Diamante e Perla" went back to the weekend.

:I don't remember exactly what year but in my memories it's nearly 10 years from the 1st time I watched Pokemon anime on Vietnamese TV Channel. Everything non-Vietnamese which was broadcast in VN is some kind of different with in another countries. Most of them have the voice-over instead of VNese dub, especially in the past. That means Pokemon is not the exception.<br/>
:Pokemon Anime was broadcast in Vietnamese national TV Station, VTV3 Channel (maybe) for 2 initial seasons. Besides, Vinabook Co.ltd published this anime series in VCD from the 1st episode up to Advanced Generation.
